Ok, have given it a few more listens and happy to eat my words - it's a far stronger album than Born This Way with far less fat and more focus, despite what I said about it being messy and too random. And most importantly, far more tongue in cheek and fun.
Also, the 'you...were...in...my' additions to the Sexxx Dreams chorus should have started from the second chorus onwards, in my completely non-qualified opinion.

Her promotional efforts have been so unfocused already.
Do What U Want was prematurely made the official second single from the album, so she's doing a video now with Terry.
Venus was demoted to "promo single" status, but Gaga claims she is still going to put out a video for it. The director was going to be Ruth Hogben - she did many of the interludes films for the Monster Ball tour. I think maybe since she's already promised Hogben a job that she might just have to follow through and do a Venus video. Or she just likes the song so much (since she wrote, composed and produced it) that she wants to give it a video treatment.
Who knows what's going on though atm.

She was filming something in Los Angeles recently, but I don't think it's clear as to whether it was the Venus video or her Muppets Holiday Special.

Yes! Exactly the same for me. Fashion was near the bottom of the pile but has skyrocketed to possibly second place for me. VENUS is still #1 and will remain so <3 <3 <3
Dope and Jewels'n'Drugs are still pure trash though.

The album version of swine would be decent if it didnt have the second build up. It's not the same as traditional dance build ups and is pretty jarring. Or at least include the weird pig sounds that were in the swinefest performance

It might be a wrong impression, but to me Dope sounds like Gaga explicitely trying to make a "raw emotional song", instead of making a good song that's raw and emotional naturally.
Songs sucks either way.

Lady Gaga has this weird thing for strange intonations, accents, foreign languages and sometimes even gibberish (hear: Scheisse). I've noticed as well.

Her style is to transition through different types of icons... there's the fashionista bitch (Donatella), the Bob Dylan crooner (Dope), the avant-garde Bowie type (Venus), the Britney/Christina sex kitten (GUY), the Springsteen stadium feel-goodery (Gypsy), the pop-rap R&B singer (Jewels n Drugs), the rocker (MANiCURE)... she likes the idea of not being defined/confined, so she goes in drastically different directions constantly. People might consider it to be kind of fake-out or inauthentic; I love it though. She's just an endless performance. lol

I'm gonna say yes. I barely listened to the iTunes festival performances, and I have no problems with any of the album versions.

I mean, you should give it a shot, but this is nothing like TFM.

I'd say so. Like TFM, this album strikes a good balance between accessibility and style.
Unlike TFM though, the album's pretty focused on a certain sound and style that may or may not work for you.

The album itself is actually really similar to TFM in terms of flow and song quality - both lack more than 2 absolutely repelling "I must skip this" type tracks, and in general every song is good, with only a few standouts.
BTW on the other hand, includes some of her best songs ever amiss some of her worst. Some of the dislike towards the album comes from how unbalanced it probably feels. TFM and ARTPOP are much easier to listen to all the way through.

see this doesn't matter to someone like me. I never listen to an album all the way through. not once in my life do I think I've ever done that for any album or artist. I take my favorite songs and make playlists, and when an album only has one truly amazing song (Venus in this case) it does feel like a letdown to me even though Gaga's one of my faves, because I expect her to be great, not just good. I think that's why BTW is prob my fave album of hers, cuz even with the lowest lows, she has several really great songs on that album not just one
I haven't fully cemented my thoughts about ARTPOP in relation to God's body of work, but with Dope growing on me and my distaste towards the studio version of Swine diminishing, I can say there's not a single song on this album I dislike.
o and MANiCURE studio is much better than the live version. The Gwen Stefanesque can you feel it punches hard.

I'm surprised you like Venus but not GUY, since they're practically cut from the same cloth. Maybe the album will be a grower for you. The Fame Monster didn't click with me the first few times I listened to it, but afterwards it became a personal favorite. Sometimes it takes a while for a hook to seep its way to the forefront. lol

I find it hilarious that the first two singles have basically the same chord progression (in a different key), and most people don't even notice (they basically repeat I, II, iii, iii, II, I over and over and over). But then again, this is pop music, and this is Gaga. The chorus to Dope is the same I V vi IV progression that's featured in the chorus' of Papparazzi, Dance In the Dark, Hair, Edge of Glory, etc. It gets tiresome.
