Left-handed preschool kid deemed "evil", forced to learn to write with right hand

Well, I have a friend who is from Hong Kong who said he used to be left-handed until he got it spanked out of him by his parents... lol

my aunt forced me to use my right hand when i was young, the result

i write, eat, draw with my left hand. Play sports with right hand/foot.

My dad is 70 and left handed. He told me stories from when he was in gradeschool, the teachers would slap him on the hand if they saw him writing with his left hand. So he was forced to learn how to write with his right hand. Which made him very ambidextrous.

Why I am surprised that this is still a thing... seriously? This is not the 2015 that I signed up for.

When my wife was in grade school, she they tried to get her to stop writing with her left hand. Her dad got all up the teachers grill and told them to STFU.

She’s left handed to this day.

Moral of this story: Don’t put up with the school’s shit, parents. So long as your kid aint breaking the rules of the district/school, they can all go pound sand.

Also: show me in the Bible, Quran, or Torah where is say the devil is left handed.

Go ahead. I’ll wait.

Something sort of similar happened to me well not the whole demon thing in elementary (2003) music teacher wouldn't let me play the recorder with my left hand on top so I constantly got c's and d's and when I asked her why she told me playing right handed is the only way I should play instruments.
Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits is left-handed, but learned to play guitar right-handed because that's the way the instrument was made. Also used to beat up his brother if he caught him playing left-handed.

Jimi Hendrix played with a flipped-over guitar, but restrung correctly. Dick Dale just turned the guitar over and played with the strings upside-down.

I was more hoping to see a nun with a fish beating Francine but this will do.
I don't watch American Dad, so I looked for the quoted scene, but that's the one I found:

Link is the very definition of evil.

Running around destroying personal property, invading lands and brutally murdering people minding their own business.

My dad was forced to use his right hand. He does this strange right handed, upside-down writing because he still pushes the pen across the paper instead of pulling it like a true righty.

As a fellow left hander, I am disgusted. I thought this kind of thing got phased out decades ago.

Also, President Obama is left handed, among other famous lefties.

I am left handed in most things but I write with my right hand. I wonder if my primary school teachers forced me to write with my right....
I am pretty sure they didn't because I think I remember left handed kids and the teacher saying it didn't matter. So long ago my memory is fuzzy.

Eh, I kind of did it to myself.

I'm sort of ambidextrous, with a preference for the left hand, like 60-40%. When I was learning to write at school, I was starting the line with my left hand, then logically switch hands at the middle of the page. My teacher told me I had to choose one to specialise in, and because I was just as competent with both, I looked around to see what the other children were doing, then picked the right hand like everybody else did.

I'm glad I did tbh. When I see pure lefties write I feel pain for them. And I can use tools with my left hand and write notes with the right one without degloving or putting the tool away.

Same goes for the computer mouse. I started using it with the left hand, but it was so much trouble to switch sides every time when learning at school (the cable is always stuck somewhere or too short) that I quickly started to learn with my right hand. I can point and click and work with the mouse in either hand, though my APM and FPS accuracy is better with the right hand :(

I wouldn't advise doing it with a strong lefty, but if the child is ok with both hands, learning to write with the right one is probably better. He won't feel handicapped by using his weak hand, and the benefits of not crouching over the page and smearing the ink are undeniable.

What the hell, why do this people always try to pin this shit on their religion? I went to a catholic private school and the teachers there mocked the idea of forcing a lefty to write with their right hand, called the practice "backwards last century thinking" and all lefty children where given their right to left.

My mother is lefty and went to a Catholic private school too. The nuns tried to force her write with her right hand. Of course, it was futile.

I went to the same school, but since I entered when I was 13 years old, they didn't force me. Dunno if the same could be said if I got in on Kindergarten.

About 50% of left-handers throw with their right hand, so it's not at all uncommon.

It's called cross-dominance. I write with my left hand, and play sports with my right hand, but nobody forced me to use either hand as a child.

Handedness isn't as clear cut as people make it out to be. Over 60% of people use their left hand for at least one activity, meaning most people aren't purely right handed. Even less people are purely left handed.

They did this to my step dad, he's old as shit now. But to this day he writes with his right hand and does everything else with the left.

Yup, dealt with a similar issue like other people in the thread. Kindergarten teacher tried to hold me back because I couldn't cut with scissors. They were right handed scissors. I'm a lefty.

Mom went in and flipped her shit. Never dealt with that teacher again.

I'm a lefty so that teacher can stick it where the sun don't shine as they would say in the underwear skid mark known as Oklahoma.
im from Georgia so I know a thing or two about backward thinking people, lol

On a serious note, why are these religious zealouts coming out of the woodwork lately? I know they've always been around, lurking in the shadows, but we're seeing more and more of this type of thinking. Lol, Should I be worried that these symptoms are contagious? Next thing you know we'll be seeing people screaming to bring back witch hunts because, you know......magic. I guess it truly shows how ignorant some people can be which makes me worried about my daughters future when she grows up.

Heh, they tried to do this to me in Elementary school.

Tried to get me to write right-handed, but it wasn't happening.

After a year, they finally gave up and let me keep writing left-handed.

(Served them right...hahaha)

As a lefty, fuck that teacher.

As a rational person, seriously fuck that teacher. These religious nuts need to be put in their damn places. So tired of their bullshit permeating everything.

Never heard of the connection between lefties and the devil until now.
Funny of all the stuff my parents did they never mentioned anything like this.

Did some researching and came across this.

Omg lol

Banned people are tagged as "unsaved trash"?

"I am so glad my husband forced me to use my right hand when we met."

but yeah fuck this superstitious nonsense, I wonder if for the sake of consistency people like this also see exorcists and faith healers when they're having medical problems.
Completely fooled me.

Its almost impossible to be purely left handed. Im left handed and Ive never seen a left-handed mouse. I know they exist, but people just use right-handed. Its the only thing i use right handed though. I use right handed scissors with my left hand.

I swear things are going backwards. When I was a kid (I'm 44) being a lefty was fine and accepted as no big deal. I only got the shaft in college where most of the desks were those right hand only fuckjobs.

I'm in my 40's too and this happened to me in 1st grade. The teacher wanted to hold me back because I wouldn't write right handed. Thankfully my parents wouldn't have that. She pulled it again the next year with another kid and was fired.

My parents have told me that while my grandparents were watching my sister & I during a no-kid trip, my grandma tied my left arm to my body to force me to use my right hand because being left-handed was not normal.

I'm not sure if I believe it anymore.

Personally, I'm of the opinion that everyone should be forced to write/play/whatever with their non-dominant hand, at least for a while. That way future generations will all be basically ambidextrous, which is awesome.

Same thing was done to my dad, which is why expected this news go be from some developing nation.

I still run into people that think people being derided/attacked personally for being left handed is something that only happened 'back then'. It happened to my brother, who's teachers insisted he write with his right hand. Who was still in school in the 2000s.
