Members of PlayStation UI Team Laid Off

Well technically they're laying off xbox employees because the ps5 is an xbox.

Nishino is not the CEO of SIE until April. As CEO of the Platform Business Group of SIE? Sure, but that started 8 months ago.

That's semantics at this point. He doesn't have the title, but he already has the power. He already answered to Totoki. He tells Totoki we can save money by doing this, obviously Totoki is going to say yes.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
How many Team(s) were laid off? :messenger_grinning_smiling:

Only one person talking about it yet, hence I used the (s) if more start talking soon. Just covering tracks 🤷‍♂️

IDK, I've seen him (kinda) siding with the anti-woke people when it's about PlayStation, even if it's mostly with memes.

Memes have no political leanings :p

I meme all sides if it's funny.

I mean, that's where I was going with the second half of my post. He just already had that power for almost a year.

Very certain that I saw it in an Intergalactic thread, you wouldn't believe it's the same sapple from the South of Midnight threads.

You're probably confusing me with someone else, Kacho Kacho and me had a few back and forth quotes in the Intergalactic thread, he would have seen any off posts.

If this is happening on a large scale reported then I wonder how relevant it is that quarterly financials are going to be released soon.

I'm also good thinking this is adamsapple adamsapple blowing shit out of proportion.

Gotcha, I don't think you're not genuine with your beliefs, it just became a bit weird for me to see you joking and such when it wouldn't usually be the case in other targeted games like Dragon Age, unless you can prove me wrong, ofc.
Not too different from seeing James suddenly making Sweet Baby jokes with MS games, though him engaging in further, actual discussions on the matter definitely puts him in a tier below, a less genuine one.

His powers been elevated now since he doesn't have a partnership with Hulst. He can now take bolders steps without the idea of Hulst supplanting him.

I said immediately that the co-CEO situation wouldn't last long and that they were competing with each other.

These are probably the folks who added the cool retro boot screens in, I hope they land on their feet.

Sony trying to claw back some of the money they blew on all those failed and cancelled GaaS projects, and as per usual, none of the execs in charge are fired, they just change their titles and move on.

It's better not to say anything when you have literally no idea of what to say.

It was always an uphill battle when it was clear that some of the heads of the other global divisions had to report to Nishino; Jennifer Clark (communications), Eric Lempel (sales and marketing) and Phil Rosenberg (partners relations) for instance, I believe some others were reporting to Totoki, like Lin Tao (finance), which makes a ton of sense given how she will be elevated to CFO of Sony Group in April. But then, *none* were reporting to Hulst.
Another big point is that it's easy to see that platform and services have always been a bigger focus for SIE than its content production. I'm also pretty sure that Nishino had been a SVP for far longer than Hulst.
Nishino being Japanese helps a lot as well, especially given that he has actually worked for Sony Group twice before, so he will always be more fit for their culture than Hulst, a manager from the SCEE school along the likes of Andrew House and Jim Ryan, will ever be.

They should shut down any and all investments in the rumored handheld and mobile integration. They need to focus on the console and the console alone, especially with PS6.

Dev studios are already having enough trouble making the games; they do need an anemic handheld and a bunch of irrelevant bs that no one will engage with on phones to deal with.

From an IP and software standpoint, you don't really need any of that reporting to Hulst. There is the business/marketing side of PlayStation and the hardware and systems side and then there is software and IP.

Hulst definitely had an uphill battle though with a lot of his projects not delivering to expectations. I think he had a great year overall with Helldivers 2 and Astro Bot and you can still see Spider-Man 2 and Ragnarok selling as well as GT7 and Ghost of Tsushima, but he's just had too many stumbles to get promoted.

He just hasn't been able to deliver enough.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Hulst is replaced by Neil in the next couple of years. He really has no place to go from here. He could try to wait and see if Nishino becomes the next CEO of Sony, but Lin Tao is probably being groomed for that. He really needs to get the pipeline in order and he really needs to get his deliverables in order or he's going to be out. Neil probably wants to do 2 more games; Intergalactic and TLOU3, so that probably gives you 4-5 years before you need to promote Neil, but I could also see him getting promoted while working on TLOU3.

i think they can focus on handheld that works like the switch 2, and does not have a separate libraryh

No, no, no. It would not be anywhere near as powerful as a PS6 and would essentially entrench a cross-gen period that lasts the entire 8-10 year period. Which is not going to work if they don't want to sell <100 million.

I think you're overestimating the impact of these A LOT. He's not even the man in charge of creating a 30th anniversary showcase, that's first and foremost a marketing operation, which falls under Nishino.
Lego Horizon Adventures is as much of a non-factor as something like Knowledge is Power, top Sony management probably doesn't even remember its existence when evaluating Hermen's performance.

Have you ever heard of death by 1000 papercuts? None of these by themselves is necessarily has a major impact, but they certainly add up.

It was absolutely his job as head of software to put together a showcase of games in development, but likely not enough games are far enough into development to put together something. We got teased with Wolverine years ago and haven't seen it since. Nothing on Venom. It's not all on marketing.

Lego Horizon was a failure to branch out. I literally put an astericks next to it. Hermen is absolutely judged on his ability to branch out and that's what a lot of these efforts were. It was a test for Ballistic Moon... failed. Lego Horizon was a test for branching out with external IP like Lego, which could have been a major new partnership, failed. Spider-Man 2 is the worst nixxes port and the game is likely to underperform as a result, failed. TLOUP2 is a big deal for Sony in their transmedia strategy, if it has a bad port on top of Spider-Man 2, Nixxes' reputation is gonzo.

Note Hermen wasn't fired for these things, but they didn't help him on his path to being CEO of SIE. Meanwhile, Nishino launched the PS5 Pro, 30th Anniversary accessories, got Cloud streaming on the PS Portal, sold a bunch of PSVR2s, 80 USD 120 Euro disc drive attachments and stands... Q3 revenue is almost certainly coming from platform business group rather than the studio business group.

And we know the business/marketing heads had to report to Nishino, that's my exact point.

I wasn't refuting your point.
