What time is it?
Godzilla Minus One (Black & White) - My first time seeing the B&W edit. While there are things I don't like about the movie (saccharine ending), it's just a fun movie that works for me and makes me easily overlook the flaws.

John Marston

GAF's very own treasure goblin
Good movie. I liked the actors and the cinematography (by Avatar actor Giovanni Ribisi) a lot too, And you're right, the less you know the better.
Of all the horrible things happening that breakfast was the worst for me.
It's still tattooed in my head 😄

It's very good and interesting in my opinion, it starts off slow but gets a lot better starting midway. If you know about Albert Pyun one of the best B movie makers in the 80s than it's one of his better movies in my opinion. Although you have to be able to handle the actress's voice. Her voice actually does sound like that even in real life which was one of the reason why Pyun gave her the role. I don't mind her voice but some people obviously would.

Saw it has a young Kathy Ireland...... Im in.

Two rival fixers cross paths when they're both called in to help cover up a prominent New York official's misstep. Over one explosive night, they'll have to set aside their petty grievances and their egos to finish the job.

It has it's funny moments but overall it thought it was real mediocre. It's Clooney and Pitt playing off of each-other and we've seen that before. Without spoiling anything, the film did very well to keep the suspense of the script till the very end.

And I laughed my ass off during this scene:

The movie is basically over and they just survived a pretty huge shoot-out. Cut to this scene:

Just watched the Joker sequel, and there's no way it deserves any hate. If you approach it expecting fireworks and Batman to show up, it's going to be a disappointment, but if you got the point of the first one it's a brilliant sequel.

My sister had a good point about the first one, saying it's the best portrayal of mental illness she'd ever seen in a film. That's where the sequel comes in, and ramps it up massively. No action, no heroics, just somebody who was already completely unhinged, rapidly unravelling.

It's a musical but not in the traditional sense - none of the song and dance numbers advance the plot, they're all in his head, and the sad reality once they're done hits pretty hard. I guess the producers spent big on it because of the surprise success of the previous film, but this one is an arthouse flick for sure.

Watched it today on YouTube. It was fun. Very dumb. But fun.

Apparently there is a sequel full of controversy. Journey to the center of the earth.

I get together with my sister every other weekend to watch movies. Lately she has been into wanting to watch weird European ones:

I mean...the performances were pretty solid, the makeup was good and it was certainly weird. Maybe there is some deeper meaning to it that I'm missing but I guess at least it was definitely memorable..

Honestly this one was a bit underwhelming, it's sort of uncomfortable and weird at first but towards the end it becomes surprisingly mundane. Also it's hard to feel bad for the main character because she is dumb as fuck,

Lol that's how I see it, I like her voice and how she and the other characters interacted with each other. It was also pretty funny when the random background character that's usually not important became important as well as her lover simply because one of the mobster shoved him to the side and pissed him off. Yeah I saw the sequel too which I didn't really like that much either. It had potential but it was wasted.

Salem's Lot (2024)

Good with a few flaws (bit shallow in some ways for horror). Some surprising elements about the story that I think few writers would go with.

She definitely made a choice with that voice. Kathy Ireland really went for it.

The Substance (2024).

Need to think on it a bit but the best movie I've seen in ages for sure.

This had everything. Great script, great sound track, great sets, body horror( shades of the fly and society), Demi Moore & as a bonus the girl who played Sue was smoking hot.

Bonkers from start to finish.

Dat ending.

Brilliant 5/5.

Hardcore Henry

This movie was wild. Shot entirely in first person perspective, this is a ultra violent action movie that never takes the foot off the gas pedal. You have no clue what is going on, you are just thrust into a crazy world where everyone wants to kill Henry. But Henry is a cyborg, part man part machine, so he ends up killing everyone instead. The movie is very gory and sometimes feels like a brutal first person shooter video game. The cinematography, editing and the effects are pretty fucking slick. The movie is very well made and I'm impressed with how they managed to put it together like this. It is not something you see every day. Crank is probably the closest I can think of, but overall Hardcore Henry is thoroughly unique. A must watch for action fans.

If you liked that, I'd also recommend Run Lola Run and Guns Akimbo. Smash those two together, add a bit of Crank, and you've got Hardcore Henry.

Saw the final chapter was amazing, they expanded on the “games”, tried 3D and turned it into a low key action movie, mark hoffman doubled down on John jigsaw’s “games”, what a character.

Just watched Challengers, a sports drama / love triangle. Kind of reminded me of Whiplash, in that it's about a coach who will go to extraordinary lengths to achieve a goal.

The director showed remarkable restraint in not including a final success scene, instead leaving it all to the audience's imagination.
The guy rediscovers his love of tennis and wins that elusive US Open title, plus he reconnects with his old buddy and they win the doubles too. He retires, Zendaya coaches the other guy to an unlikely grand slam success, and they all fuck on top of a giant pile of prize money.

Went and saw Terrifier 3 today and it was pretty good. Definitely not gonna be for everyone it's pretty over the top but if you like the first two you'll like this one.

Rating 8.5/10

Been on Tubi today after Church...

Cadillac Records

The story of how the Blues became popular in the mainstream (what they used to call "race music")... Great depictions of Muddy Waters, Little Walter, Howling Wolf...

The music, the singing ... Some of the cast even learned to play the instruments for real ... And Jeffrey Wright even sang like Muddy Waters... IMO, this was also the best acting I've seen from Adrian Brody.

Black Dynamite

I know most of y'all don't or have never watched a "blaxploitation" movie but this action comedy starring Michael Jai White pays homage to the genre. I recognized so many of the characters as they paid homage to Petey Wheatstraw, Dolomite, Shaft, etc. All the "mistakes" you see in the movie are ripped STRAIGHT from the blaxploitation films of the 1970s.

Fighting With My Family

Stars Florence Pugh as Paige... Nearly unrecognizable but she really sells the role as a wrestler who dreams of joining the WWE ... REALLY endearing movie!

Furiosa. I liked the first two chapters a bunch, thought the second two chapters were okay and didn't like the last chapter. I really wish they'd go back and fix some of the horrible CG elements.

I quite enjoyed that one , but yeah the cgi really took you out of the experience at times, it looked cheap as fuck.

To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar

A much better movie than expected, with absolutely stellar performances from Snipes, Leguizamo and (especially) Swayze.
A bit of a rushed ending, but other than that, fantastic.

I saw it last night, it was fun, but it being rated R18 in my country, I was expecting worst so I was a bit disappointed, I think it got that rating only because children are involved.

Hellboy Crooked man - It was a smaller story and that was good, but the movie is fair and the accents are out there.

The Conquerors - Hollywood Fallout - Doc about the filming of the Howard Hughes movie near the nuclear test site, how bad the movie is and how the test site caused a lot of cancer. It looses steam at the end.

I watched No Way Out (1987) for the first time on the weekend. Kevin Costner starts working for Secretary of Defense, Gene Hackman and stuff happens that leads to a lot of suspense and drama. Sean Young's also in it and looks fantastic...maybe the best role I've seen her in. Pretty good movie but had a few aged moments like chase scenes that maybe weren't needed.

Challengers: The director showed remarkable restraint in not including a final success scene,
He also showed restraint in showing barely any sex at all. In a relationship movie about a seduction and a threesome, I think we need a bit more sugar. Kind of reminded me of this perception that Gen-Z doesn't want to see sex in shows and movies...I find this hard to believe but it seems this movie was made for them.

I agree with all of this. CGI looked way too fake. I read they filmed the scenes on location but the effects were laid on so thick that I thought they were filming from a soundstage. And I wanted more of the start of the movie where you follow Dementus and his crew...the gang was pretty interesting with some fun characters. Overall not a bad movie but the CGI was a turnoff.

I think he would have had to find a different lead actress if he was going to include anything stronger in that film.

I’ve never seen the IP MAN Trilogy. That changes tonight!

I’m starting the first movie now on Bluray. I know who Donnie Yen is, and I somewhat know who IP Man was. I’ll probably watch part 2 tomorrow night, and part 3 the following night. Here we go!

Bury my heart at wounded Knee - Film picks up right after the events of Battle of little Big horn (Custer's last stand). It works through the events leading up to the death/murder of sitting Bull the last chief of the Sioux. It is an interesting film and has a good cast. I think it fairly depicts the Sioux and the US Army and the different perspectives. There is a clip from it that I see a lot on social media that I think is always interesting.

The Trouble with jessica - I watched because Alan Tuydec, and I did not think this dark comedy was funny of good. Every character is terrible.

As in like The Monster Squad from 1987?

“Wolfman’s got nards!”

That Monster Squad?!?

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
Tonight my kids and I watched Weedjies: Halloweed Night. It was more or less downright terrible.

A group of college kids rent a hotel in Las Vegas for Halloween to throw an epic party. Some voodoo lady shows up with a "Weedjie board", which kicks off a Jumanji-like game where the Weedjies (small Gremlins-like critters) escape and are running loose - and they have until midnight to trap them back in the board. This was like a spiritual successor to the Ghoulies franchise of the 80s and 90s, but with a lot more weed and stoner references.

Somehow, this movie ended up feeling like a Disney Channel special (think Halloweentown). Outside of a few random scenes with smoking, weird homoeroticism and talking about sex, this could have easily been edited to be rated G. It gave the movie such a surreal vibe that's very difficult to explain. The music and sound direction was actually really top-notch, which is also difficult to explain.

In fact, a lot about this movie is just downright difficult to explain.

I'm not sure how far into IP Man 2 I am, but I don't care for this one at all so far. I really enjoyed the first one. This one is boring and disjointed. The narrative is all over the place. I will finish watching it out of obligation to see it through, but I doubt I will like it once it is over.

Only the first one is good.
