New Xbox Series X consoles have slight internal redesign

GoldenEye98

posts news as their odd job
The digital Series X is $449. That's $250 less than a PS5 Pro. The Galaxy Black special edition with 2TB SSD is the one that's $100 less than a PS5 Pro.

People latch on to the 2TB storage as their proxy to compare but then conveniently omit this:

the shrunken chip allows the new Xbox Series X models to run around 10 watts less than the original model at idle.

You know what else allows it to run using less power? THE LACK OF OPTICAL DRIVE! Now you can repurchase all your favourite backwards compatible Xbox 360 games and Xbox One games, comforted by the fact that you are saving $2 a year in electricity costs. How adorable.

Unfunnily mocking Austin Evans for no reason aside, it’s pretty interesting to see the differences between the “old” model Series X, and the two new ones. Having the enormous heatsink with massive copper pipes rather than the vapor chamber was a surprise for me. I don’t know how much more expensive the vapor chamber is, but if the simpler solution is just as efficient, then I guess it doesn’t matter.

Also cool to see the lesser power draw on the new versions, despite such ultimately offering minimal differences in terms of your overall power bill. The Series X was always an incredibly efficient system across the board.

You could be right or Microsoft knows it’s bleeding money and worked on a close to the more expensive design but a lot cheaper and is looking to lose less money on these. Or technology advances and they found a cheaper more effective way to reduce heat at a cheaper cost. I lean more on my first take but maybe!

Gotta love these all digital consoles coming out and no one bats any eye. Meanwhile, people raged (rightfully) so much that Microsoft wanted to make Xbox One essentially an all digital/always on console on that they changed courses. It's crazy what a decade difference can make.

Wait they really did this? I thought that was a leak and it never panned out?

Are they copying sony or is this the no disc drive at all and no external model?
Why do this? they have the space in there.

Also there are a ton of old xb and x360 games you can't get on the store but can on disc. It would be retarded buying a discless version.

For instance, the following (off the top of my head are all delisted)
Splinter cell
Splinter cell Pandoras tomorrow
Battlefield bad company
BF Bad company 2
Silent Hill Downpour
Mortal Kombat 9
Skate 2

I am sure there are tons more that were removed from the store as M$ are cheapskates and don't give a damn about real backwards compatibility or would of paid the license fee for whatever caused these to be delisted.

I bought all those games 2nd hand when I got my first and last, only xbox console ever, the series x.
Think I could of bought them all on the store, but no some retro shop/antique store vendor got my money and MS got squat, Idiots. lol

Enough of me venting.

Did they release a seperate drive? Scummy move none the less
You know that they are not stopping offering standard Xbox series x with the disc drive. Plenty to choose from based on your preference.

Um, you can buy the disc version or the discless version. You choose.

I still can't believe Microsoft is charging $600 just for more storage space. This is what we warned you guys about. This is what happens when Microsoft... uh.... *checks notes*... has no competition?
SSDs are expensive, with 2TB examples regularly being in the $140-$160 range. I don’t know how much MS could’ve realistically dropped the price of an enclose machine with a 2TB drive.

Mega Drive has a very particular discussion for the sound chip with their redesign. N64 lost the ability of the stop'n swap in the latest version. PS4 had like five or more versions of the same board, even before the Slim

It's more common than one can think

My comment isn't actually a complaint about the price of that console. I'm mocking the ones who complained about a $700 PS5 Pro while staying quiet about a $600 Series X. Both with 2 TB of storage space. Only one being a significant performance improvement over the ones released 4 years ago.

Why would someone buy this when they can get a real generation upgrade with AI upscaling and better RT for $100 more? Also in a few years you'll still be able to resell your PS5 Pro for very good money (like with PS4 Pro). All Playstation consoles have a very good resell value.

In a few years this will be worth not much. $200 max. in a few years you'll sell your PS5 Pro $500-$600. This is what happened with all the PS4, PS4 Pro and PS5 I resold. Incredibly good resale value.
