New Xbox Series X consoles have slight internal redesign

The issue is that the PS5 did come with a vertical stand. A really nice one, at that. It also came with an optical drive integrated.

The console is exclusively marketed vertically. It’s clearly designed to be vertical, both aesthetically and for cooling purposes. It’s a “pro”, top of the line product that can’t be bothered to include even their current cheap version of the stand. It’s insulting, really.

Yeah, it's pretty dumb that if you buy a PS5 Pro, plug it into your TV and set it the way it looks on the box, it can't cool properly and you might be overheating your new console day 1.

The box does not even show the bottom of the PS5 and truncates off the part that would show the stand that is not included. I thought not worrying about this shit was the entire point of game consoles.

Was just thinking this. That’s not this generation’s problem.

Most of the people who have that opinion share one thing in common.

I understand the argument about 'removing' the stand that used to come with the launch PS5, but it does stand horizontally or vertically without the stand perfectly fine.

So, honestly, that stand was redundant.

The PS5/Pro consoles work perfectly fine without a stand.

Hold on I was under the impression Pro needs the vertical stand to not be a cooling risk. If it works just fine vertical without the stand, I stand (ahem) corrected. There is a lot of competing information about this.

Are you referring to the liquid cooling rumor? There was a rumor sometime ago that vertically-stood PS5s may develop liquid cooling problems (was never substantiated though).
  • So even if one believes that, they should be putting their PS5s horizontally anyway (for which they don't need any stand).
  • If one wants to put it vertically, while a stand definitely helps, they can make it stand vertically without a stand just fine. And it has no impact on cooling whether you have the vertical stand or not, as the vents are all on the upper side anyway.

Nope not the liquid cooling rumor, but I mean even if that was a thing, I wouldn't expect the stand to affect it.

I simply thought that the Pro required a stand in order to prevent an issue with spacing and vents, as some past consoles have. I got this from somewhere on the net but it is apparently not true. It fueled all my disdain for not including the stand.

Oh okay.

That rumor just sounds baseless, to be honest. How would anyone know if it has cooling issues without even using the console? It's not even released yet lol.

If anything, it's more believe that it does not have an issue like this, because the design is pretty much identical as the PS5, which clearly doesn't have an issue like this.

It may have originated with the holes on the bottom of PS5 Slim, which are apparently just air leak vents and most of them get covered by the official stand anyway lol.

Ya wanna know whats funny, im not sure if this was mentioned, but the original big plastic stand was the reason my PS5 was overheating so i took it off and no problems since.

This new one is prob better but more expensive to produce, they just made a design error from the beginning imo

Are you being serious...so the situation is exact opposite, stands are the real danger to cooling, LOL.

I can't help but feel like this system has too many weird design flaws just because they insisted on this dogshit inverse oreo router flappy look. Like Cerny did his job and then they wrapped it in some other department's artistic vomit that can't even support itself without an extra plastic piece.

im not joking, its crazy, could entirely be a coincidence and a software update was the actual reason it stopped overheating though

If someone said "what's the point of making a Wii U revision", you would have shown up and said "why are you derailing threads with irrelevant things"?

In a thread about a Wii U revision, no (it would be a stupid statement but on topic). In a Xbox or PS revision thread, yes that would be irrelevant.

The revisions happen for cost reduction purposes, because companies want to produce the hardware for as little cost as possible. The "point" of doing them never changes regardless of who is doing it.

I think this is more likely.

I've had mine on a vertical stand for nearly 4 years now. And I essentially live in a dust-bowl. No over-heating issue.

It's not. I already explained why it isn't, using verifiable facts, so he's just making a case for his own failure to either read, or to hold more than a single concept in his brain at a single time. I say, let him!

Definition of strawman:
an intentionally misrepresented proposition that is set up because it is easier to defeat than an opponent's real argument.

It's literally what you did. But, that said, I'm glad your buddies are there to back you up! Do you have matching t-shirts?

How does a thread about a new motherboard has degenerated into the same old platform war?

According to previous posters, it makes total sense, unless you fail at reading or are unable to hold more than a single concept in your brain. Apparantly.

Reasons you think I'm talking about Wii U:

-I'm obsessed with Nintendo
-I love talking about irrelevant things
-It did poorly and I need a straw man

The only actual reason I brought up Wii U:

-Xbox's current sales rate is currently very close to what Wii U's average rate was to achieve its lifetime sales.

Therefore, if you would call it silly to ask what is the point of a Series revision based on sales, I assume you would also say the same about Wii U, since the sales rates are very similar right now.

I'm sorry that I needed to put everyone else through special ed class saying this 15 times to help one guy get it.

This thread's original post was about an article showing that the new White Series X console is actually a new chip and mobo rather than just a new paint job.
It now seems to be about the evolution of Playstation's cooling system.
Might be time to close this one down.

Only 100g of heatsink weight saved in the 6nm model? This is terrible engineering. Didn't Sony save like half of heatsink weight in the 6nm model vs launch? Cooling must be like 5 times less expensive on PS5 right now.

And there's your problem. I've never said anything like that. Hence the strawman.
It's impressive, yeah. Imagine using a news thread about an internal redesign of a console that makes it use less power, to start screaming how poor it sells. Then imagine that the people doing that are most likely adults.

Wait, you mean you never said it was silly to question a hardware revision for a console that's selling at Wii U's sales rate (Xbox)?

Are you sure about that?

It's called an analogy not a strawman, maybe had the sales rates had been different you'd have a point?

I just did?

No. When did I say it was silly to question a hardware revision for the Xbox Series X? Go on. Find it. I questioned the fact that some of you were clearly enjoying the fact that the Xbox Series S&X are selling poorly, in a thread that was originally centered about the news of an internal redesign. Two very different things, which everyone in their right mind should be able to see.

You're just posting strawman after strawman. We both know that. Stop digging your hole any deeper.

Bloody hell TBiddy TBiddy , I feel for you bud. No point in arguing with that one! 😂

Sounds like you have experience with that one. I should start using the ignore button more often I think.
