Next Battlefield "one of most ambitious projects in our history"

Used to be my favorite MP game. Over the years watching it get worse with every iteration since BF2 sucks. I did play and enjoy BF1 for the most part because it still had some of that crazy shit that I always came to BF for. Even with Vince Zampella at the helm, I have doubts this series will redeem itself.

FFS EA, you've been making Battlefield games since 2002. Don't tell me you just figured out what your community wants......................

But will it be good? Lol.

Man, honestly, at this point, just give me something that looks, feels, and plays like a legit Battlefield and I'll be happy. I just don't think we'll get that, especially with DICE gone.

It was nice loving it since 1942 and watching it evolve and grow. But I think we've already experienced the series' highest highs. If it's ever more than that, I'll be shocked.

Sure. Can't wait for them to repeat the same stupid mistakes and throw the fault at everybody.

I dont think dice is making this. Isnt it repawn?
? huh? well no and yes.

ReSpawn worked on Portal and I believe some of the DLC, I don't even know if they are large enough to do a whole BF title alone btw, but DICE is very much doing the next BF title. From what I read, the whole "ambitious" thing has to do with all their main teams that assist in BF to all work on the title, as in ReSpawn, DICE, Ripple Effect (old DICE LA that did the DLC stuff) and some other teams.

So its sounding like from the jump they want all hands on deck or something, but I don't know how they'll handle DLC tbh.

From what we know from some investor call, it will be the largest team they've ever put together to create a Battlefield game.

"this is the largest Battlefield team in franchise history”.

That team will span studios Motive, DICE, Ripple Effect and Criterion - after the majority of Need for Speed studio Criterion were pulled over to work on Battlefield last year and the devs behind the Dead Space remake at Motive joined them earlier this year - who Wilson said are building “a Battlefield universe across connected multiplayer and single-player experiences”."

It will be a "reimagining" what ever that means lol So I don't know if the mean remaking BF1942 or some other BF, or making a BF back with its root design concept, who knows.

YOU PC BRO?! YOU PC BRO?! smh stop trying to bring this whole culture war shit into everything regarding this. I don't even know of those who cried about any of that fucking shit even played those games.

BF1 -cried woke cause its cover and um "hisToRy"
BFV - cried woke cause a prosthetic arm (nevermind that this shit literally existed in WWII)
Most of the shit people were complaining about was in a single player mode the vast majority of real BF fans don't even fucking play...

I'm more concerned about servers working or not, scoreboards actually being in the game day 1, classes making sense etc. I love Portal and none of that shit makes any type of sense to have a WWII map with all different types of future weapons, if you have not guessed it by the actual sales of this IP, most are not buying this shit for a history lesson.

Thought some of you would have learned that when you cried about BF1's cover only to then have it go on to be the best selling BF in history.

Its almost as if most are there to play a game and not a PBS special =)

Heard it all before, but then Zampella gives me some hope.

Needs to be full current-gen too. Battlefield by its very nature needs to be untethered from those old netbook CPUs and mechanical HDDs. Let that engine run free on PS5, PS5 Pro, XS & upper-end PC.

Better hurry up. That new Delta Force game looks pretty good and F2P across consoles and PC.

lol knowing the BF series, last thing they need to do is "hurry" lol

but I've heard this same tune before, wasn't some other early access game suppose to KILL BF? Lol That WW3 game or something?

Audiophile Audiophile With what they did with Dead Space and Dragon Age, I don't believe EA is returning to last gen systems with their big future AAA titles. So, 99% sure this will be current gen only.

Wasn't 2042 as well?

Yup.

The way I see its ambitious simply means they're trying something new or unique or doing something very different. So trying to make the biggest maps in the series as well as the most populated was definitely in difficult endeavor regardless of if it worked out or not for 2042.

So from what I'm reading I would argue what they're saying is justifiable as ambitious as right now this is the most stacked team to ever work on a Battlefield

So I'm curious to see what they do under this new direction and with a larger team and more time and with just current generation systems.

Battlefield has always been in a hate bubble especially on forums, everyone in battlefield inner circles knows the franchise had to go modern after BF1, and V. I liked the gun attachments and how it sped up the pace, the specialists were mostly ok and than there's 2042's maps which were reminiscent of BF4 which btw is ending it's servers in November for PS3.

jackfrags shilling as expected
I came here to say this. Jack Frags is such a shill , I guess it makes him cash but I don’t trust his impressions at all.

On topic, EA should just keep their damn mouth shut on this game and not talk about it till it’s ready to go. No one is buying what they are selling after the debacle of the BF 2042 launch it was absolute garbage and I believe they said the exact same things.

They turned it around but lost 90% of the players since it took them forever to fix the game. Please EA/Dice just keep your mouth shut, develop the game and let us know how good it is 2 months out with an ass kicking beta.

It really shouldn't be hard to make a Battlefield game. They're pretty simple.

Go back to basics and look at what made BF2 and Bad Company so damn good. That's it. No need to reinvent the wheel.

I agree, but then there are always a lot „fans“ of the franchise who call the next iteration a „reskin“ or „cashgrab“. Happened especially with BF4, which was a brilliant game.

from recent EA earnings call

As Season 7 of Battlefield 2042 wraps up, one thing is clear; each season of the game has shown our team's unique ability to listen, learn, and draw inspiration from the community to deepen connection with the franchise. Players continue to be passionate about the Battlefield franchise, which has surpassed over 25 million players over the last 12 months. The community is energized by what our teams are doing and excited for what comes next.
The community is energized by what our teams are doing and excited for what comes next. This is not just one of our top priorities, it is also one of the most ambitious projects in our history. We have brought together the very best team coupled with the resources and technology they need to deliver an epic Battlefield experience. I am excited about what is to come next as we continue to make progress across our strategic priorities.

Disagree that it had to go "modern". I think it should have doubled down on the traits that made it unique to other competitive FPS. They were already carving their own path with the large scale and tactical battles. All sorts of levels of destruction with buildings, terrain deformation, physics that actually made multiplayer games varied and immersive.

It's almost the "most ambitious" project for these companies. Ever heard them saying the opposite? This is pure investor talk. It bears no meaning for the consumer.

They constantly fuck up this franchise. Everyone was really enthused about 2042 after that hype trailer then the beta dropped with the specialist shite.

Every new year isn't a new Battlefield, it's a completely different game where old mechanics are thrown out and new ones tested. We will lose specialists next. God knows what the next big idea is.

I can already feel them trying to include another BR or Extraction mode.

I think this is already confirmed tbh. Don't even know how that works when BF is known for its vehicles and their ability to dominate a battlefield.

Zampella has a lot of credibility but a lot of weight on those shoulders. I think the big issue is that they haven't figured a way to monetise it properly yet. They are looking at cod and trying to emulate their revenue.

Spliting the community is always a bad idea with premium passes. No one really likes blue faces, sequin wearing purple haired cosmetics that yearns for a traditional battlefield game. They need to go back and focus on SPECACT style skins if they're doing that:

That's not to say every skin is like those above, the mastery skins are actually ok, but even some of them look like evil power rangers and it creates a disconnect between the core BF players and the ones they are trying to woo. Which makes a halfway house no one really likes.

also feel like bf games just tend to add more flash instead of actually refining the gameplay/gun feel/core mechanics.
taken many steps backward really.
Thats sounds like revisionist history. Battlefield has always been the more technically impressive game. The gunplay has always been more advanced in BF with guns having more variance and feel due to battles over huge maps so players have to compensate for bullet drop. The team based squad mechanics in Battlefield encourages team work better than COD, as well as give players more options to coordinate, like tanks, jets, helicpoters, boats, dirtbike, jet ski, etc. They've had environment destruction, where you could reduce buildings to rubble, and other games where each map has a scripted catastrophe or weather event. The Frostbite engine has always been its trump card over COD.

COD has obviously sold more due to being the more popular option among younger gamers, but BF has always had a lot more option and different gameplay mechanics that dwarfed anything COD had until Battle Royale mechanics were widely adopted. The BF franchise has always been on the cutting edge of FPS games though. The problem is the last team that worked on BF2042 isnt exactly known for multiplayer games.

Ah EDMIX EDMIX , I forgot about you. The human ostrich. Head perpetually buried in the sand. You dare blame me for 'bringing this culture war shit' into the Battlefield conversation? That's on activists at DICE. You are a fool to believe that the pursuit of the mythical 'modern audience' wasn't primarily to blame for the downfall of the franchise. BF1 having great sales is the point, the series was on a high. Fans were ambushed with this historical revisionism starting with BF1 then recoiled in abject horror at a mere glimpse of BF5. Tell me, which demographics do you believe primarily constitute the fanbase of the Battlefield franchise? It shouldn't upset you to say it out load. I have an idea, lets test the theories. Does a Battlefield game designed to appeal to the modern audience sell better than a Battlefield game designed to appeal to the largest target demographic i.e. straight men. Good news, the results are in.... it turns out that games designed to appeal to the audience that will actually spend money on them sells more and has higher player retention. What a shock, are you feeling ok?

Didnt realize Vince Z was in charge of this now.
I have high hopes. Would be nice to get back to WW2.

WW2 is the Battlefield what MW is to COD.

Let me know when they're done trying to make operators a thing. Running around shooting a bunch of clones of myself so ea could sell skins during the bf2042 beta was when I knew I was finished with the series.

Nah. I'm not falling for the hype anymore.

Every.Single.Time- EA and Dice fuck up the launch of a Battlefield game when they should be able to do this
in their sleep by now. It's unacceptable.

If the game isn't going to be like Battlefield 4 on steroids, no thanks.

I want "level-oution" back where almost the entire map can be obliterated into rubble. I want a huge, varied selection
of maps like BF 4 had.

Day 1 features like working squads, scoreboard, kick player, server chat....need to be you know, DAY 1.

A steady release of quality map packs, not a map every 6 months.

And most importantly, if the game is near release and could use a few extra months for bug fixes/polish-DELAY THE GAME which
leads to: do not release the game if it needs a massive "day 1" patch so it can "work properly". That's an unfinished game.

Been an OG BF player since 1942. (still have the original game cd and box).

They had already started with these skins ideas in BFV. They had "Elites" in the same way that Siege does them. They even had a burning outfit similar to the above.

Hopefully they steer in the other direction, but low expectations.

the old DICE devs that created the best BF entries are long gone, what remains at DICE are associate and junior level staff that probably got promoted to higher positions. The true core talent that made BF what it is are no longer there so I have almost no hopes for a really good entry. Battlefield 1, the WW1 one was the last project from the core DICE team hence the really high quality of that game, at least on the multiplayer side.

Please have low expectations and don't fall for the hype, I am still bitter about my 100$ preorder on the last one and I barely put 10 hours into it as it was almost unplayable at launch and felt like a F2P game or at most, a $30 product.

The same shit was said about 2042.

Why doesn't EA ever listen to its fans... We just want gunplay from Battlefield 1 and vehicles from 4.

Game is about to be an absolute joke
No body wants gunplay from BF1 lmao.

If anything people want it from BFV.

I personally want it to feel like BF3.

This is why they don't make anything good. Because we all want something different.

I hope, genuinely, that I deeply regret not pre-ordering their next game someday. Because there is no way in hell I will preorder another one of their games. If word of mouth is good after the inevitable networking issues get resolved I will be open to buying it then though.

BFV - cried woke cause a prosthetic arm (nevermind that this shit literally existed in WWII)

... nobody was fighting in active combat with a prosthetic arm. I'm pretty sure even today there aren't any frontline combatants with prosthetic arms except in Bumfuck, Afghanistan or maybe Russia. The idea is so absurd that it perfectly encapsulated how off the mark EA DICE's vision for BFV was. You say you only care about the gameplay and for the product to function as expected, well I wish that had been DICE's outlook too! Instead of wasting time and money on shoving in this woke garbage that nobody asked for, instead of trying to build the entire launch game around "forgotten battles of WWII" (which they still managed to butcher, naturally - why the hell do you only see the British in Rotterdam instead of the Royal Dutch Army, for example?), instead of killing off support for the game barely a year after launch because not enough people were buying their stupid MTX skins.

It's a crying shame. BFV is the perfect case study on how to completely squander a game with huge potential.
