Very sad. Blood, Shogo, NOLF, AVP2, FEAR, Tron, … there was a period where Monolith were making the most interesting and unique first person games, and releasing them very regularly.

Seems impossible these days. Nowadays we often wait 5 years for a boring sequel to a game which was also boring.

Hopefully with James Gunn taking control on DC moving forward they can actually pose a threat. Not sure if the video game market will be of much interest to them anymore like how Disney dropped out and just loans out IPs.
Gunn's plan is a mess. He's patting himself on the back for mandating that scripts have to be finished before production starts while making every other bad decision.
The film slate doesn't make sense, and trying to tie up every aspect of DC in multimedia into a coherent universe is impossible.

They cancel Wonder Woman because they know that woke won't let them make her hot so the game is fucking dead as dogshit.

Woke is what killed these studios. Being controlled by woke.

If WB never went woke every game they made would have been hogwarts level. Look at them now.

I just want them to understand and learn from this instead of continuing on with the woke and pretending like none of this ever happened.

With a heavy heart I declare this another rare incel victory. May those who lost their jobs recover quickly and may the publishers take this lesson to heart so we don't have to teach it again.

I really enjoyed Shadow of Mordor. I made it a few hours into Shadow of War and was a bit bored with it. That was 9 YEARS AGO.
Same here. And it’s not like the sequel was somehow visibly inferior. But for some reason it just never clicked. I guess there are certain type of game mechanics you just want to play once. The same reason I bailed on Spiderman 2 after a few hours.

Is WB permanently scaling down studios?

Or is there a silver lining and they'll open up new studios with new people? Go scorched earth and out with the old, in with the new?

My take is that Warner Brothers Games closed Monolith (and the other 2 studios) to avoid closing Rocksteady after that monumental fuck up and waste of money that was called "The Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice".

They (WBG) are gonna to put all the chips in the next Batman game and hope the studio (Rocksteady) can deliver and regain part of their reputation that was lost with SS. And if they can't achieve that, they are next in line for closure.

That's what I understood as focusing in DC as their key franchise, and what's more famous than a Wonder Woman game? A Batman of the Arkham series game.

Can't be any worse than what Kevin Feige has been doing the last five years.

shadow of mordor was interesting. shadow of war was a miscalculation. yet another inferior sequel...
I guess a lot of people feel this way? I really enjoyed the first game, I am not a huge fan of Lord of the Rings but it was fun. The sequel though.....I liked the nemesis stuff but the game just didn't click. The last time I gave it a whirl I got to a point where they introduced a bunch of extra shit to do and I just put it down after that.

Awful news, wtf, they had something good going and decided going 180 against the same tipe of games that brings the cash was the best idea, idk what else to say, suits are idiots and devs end up paying for it

I'm mad but not that mad about WW game getting cancelled, it'd never live up to the character (and that's without thinking which twists would be forced to include "the message") and most people only care about Batman or Super-Alien with a heart of gold, so whatever

WB (not just games) is one of the most mismanaged big companies in the world, change my mind. They have such iconic franchises and IPs, and they've done nothing but piss them away on all fronts.

Regarding the closures, just like Bioware, I'm sure most of them are a shell of their former selves filled with activists and agenda, so I can't be too sad about it. For any veteran devs that worked on good games, I'm sure they'll land on their feet somewhere.

My hope for any chance of them taking a crack at a new Condemned just went into thin air. Really sad to see Monolith to go like that. Legendary studio who got acquired by the wrong people.

Monolith fate is just sad. FEAR, Shogo, TRON 2.0 and NOLF are one of the cornerstones of narrative FPS genre. It's so sad to see them go.

I was fascinated with SHOGO back then. It aged like milk by today's standards coming from Doom & Quake back then, this came as a game that was really trying to break the mold.

Then two months later Half-Life would come and flip the fucking table on 1998 gaming forever :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Is that the game where you fuck your dead gf's sister but then it just so happens that she isn't dead so you get to flirt with both sisters at the same time?

Yeah I would have been fascinated as well. :lollipop_content:

this's so simplistic & desperate a 'plan' that it actually might be correct? good one...

I paid good money for this Dynex!
This legitimately pisses me off. WB’s incompetence killed off one of the most iconic development studios of all time. Monolith is one of those studios that made me want to get into working in games in the first place. FEAR 1 and 2? Shogo? The Blood series (yes, even 2 which had its moments)?

Fuck. They were legends, man. They made games that, even years later, nobody has ever properly replicated the feel of.

Next in line are Ubisoft after Assassin's Creed Shadows. Nothing can save them with how much employees that company has.

They will fill for bankruptcy and be bought, or they will downsize immensely to the point where they'll be comparable to any other AAA studio. Be prepared because this will be another year of massive layoffs.

Monolith is mostly to blame. Their last game came out in October 2017. According to Jason Schreier Monolith's Wonder Woman game was a mess and years away from being finished. A games development studio that needs 9-10 years to get a next gen game out the door only has itself to blame when everyone gets fired.

No they're not. Just like with Rocksteady, these devs didn't want to make those games. You can't have passion in making something that you have no desire in.

Of course I'm being judgemental on this, but Rocksteady devs did come out and say that they didn't have the motivation and passion to make a Suicide Squad game. I can't speak for Monolith but that's my opinion that they did not have the desire to make a WW game.

These decisions were made by someone higher up. Fuck them.

Fuck dude I feel like we're just condemned to nothing but Batman games from DC til the end of time. Yeah Batman is awesome, but it can't just beat nothing but him and other Batman spin off characters. You've got an untapped well of cool superheroes, power sets, lore, and settings with DC. But no we need to stay in Gotham City.

Salute to Monolith.
FEAR pushed my computer to its knees back in the day. I had my pc case opened up with a desk fan on to keep the airflow going to prevent it from overheating my system (which it did do).

Monolith Soft has create some of interesting innovative game mechanic features in Middle Earth series through the Nemesis system. it is sad to see they go since there is possibilities that we wont see a further fullfledge expansion of the system infuture.

hopefully others studio would pick the idea. there is lot of potential with this not just with enemy hierachy system but i can i see it implemented on other wider range of application. for example romance system or storyline branching path progression.

This industry is finished. Beyond doomed. The fact so many 'gamers' are glad about this, is dreadful.

Your hobby is literally dying here guys.

Well at least Asia will help revitalise it in the meantime, the games they're producing are gold so far.
Yeah, honestly, regardless of how anyone feels, no one should praise this kind of thing. It's fucked.

What is wrong with "y'all"? Isn't that just a southern way of saying "you all"?
I'm glad you asked this because I wondered the same. Born and raised in Texas, I've said "y'all" my whole life, it's standard here, a LOT of people say it. It's nothing more than a contraction that's very common in the South.

According to some of these mentally distinguished gentlemen you cant say yall or your woke
Wtf? Come on man, that's ridiculous. This is the first I've ever heard of this, lmao. Is it because it doesn't focus on gender? I'm so confused.

I have never heard of this being some culture warrior thing. I live close enough to the south and have been hearing people say it all my life that it is a normal enough word to me. A bit weird to me that west coast people would latch on to a southern word, being that they hate southern people.
Ditto. Absurd that people would even try to take it in that direction. Just really unfortunate.

Because when garden variety, non southern white people say it to a group (in order to purposely avoid saying "you guys" as if they're going to potentially offend someone in the room) it comes across as awkward, unnatural and forced.

To me anyway. I purposely go out of my way to never say it. Just cringey as fuck overall.
I've never really known it to be anything "that deep". It's just tends to be something folks from the South say. It's literally no different that some people saying "soda" as opposed to "pop" in different parts of the country.
