Thanks. So the PS4 is still ahead on Amazon. Like I said earlier, unless the sales of the X1 suddenly sky rockets, I expect the PS4 to easily take January. Question is what kind of gap are we expecting?

30-50k IMO.Thanks. So the PS4 is still ahead on Amazon. Like I said earlier, unless the sales of the X1 suddenly sky rockets, I expect the PS4 to easily take January. Question is what kind of gap are we expecting?
Yeah, I'm expecting a gap around that range as well. Maybe 70K as a high end estimation30-50k IMO.
I'm thinking PS4 easily wins January NPD mainly due to MS raising the xbone price back up to 400 for two weeks...still don't get why they did that. With Bloodborne and (to a lesser extent) the Order Sony should win Feb/March as well. After that I think it'll be a very tight race back and forth till the end of the year.
Is amazon typically an accurate indicator for npd/US sales?
*removed*Can someone summarise the estimated HW figures for this month?
Can't seem to find them.
What I picked up:
Why would it matter? Is anyone who picked up an Xbone at $349 actually going to care if it wasn't permanent?I'm pretty sure they had it go back up to $399 for two weeks so that the limited time only $349 price didn't feel like a sham.
What I picked up:
I don't see that happening when half the month was back at $399.
February and March is also going to be won by PS4 with The Order, Bloodborne and MLB.
Is amazon typically an accurate indicator for npd/US sales?
Oh that's right, keep forgetting that the first 2 weeks xbox one was 399 lol.
Amazon is pretty much 1:1 with every NPD result there ever has been this gen.
I also find it interesting that despite the X1 going back to $349, that bundle seems to have run out of steam. The PS4 is still tracking 8 places above it on every hourly sales chart.
So now I wonder was the holiday boost from all the kids who wanted it but might have had to wait until next Christmas, but because the price dropped to ridiculous levels, all the parents snaffled it up?
Amazon has had the correct ranking between the Xbox One and the PS4 for every month since the systems came out, true. But I wouldn't go so far as to say it's been one to one, because:
a.) I don't think anyone ever uses it to look at the sales ranking of the other systems, and
b.) I can't remember the XB1 and PS4 finishing more less the three spots from each other since people started paying attention to the rankings. They've always been not that close, and I have a feeling that there's going to a month soon where they're close, and it turns out Amazon is wrong.

Terry Travis, can you remove those, please? As Aquamarine said, we're trying to avoid summary posts. Obviously the data's all out there to be gotten, if someone were to try hard enough to gather it, but we're trying to not invite more widespread dissemination by summarizing it in easily copyable chunks. You can PM him those values, if you want him to know specifically. Sort of a gentleman's agreement amongst us and those helping to provide some data.
Thanks!
They won't like it if this becomes the thread for easy access to the numbers and we might end up with no numbers.I don't totally understand this. Are you questioning his numbers or are you just saying "we would rather people do their own work to find out how many consoles have been sold because NPD group doesn't like it".

579,000 for the Wii U is good right?
Not allowing readily available data to be summarized seems....problematic at best, absurd at worst. I'm not sure if I am a fan of the "we'll take what we can get we just have to make sure we don't piss them off or we'll get nothing" ethos. One man's opinion.

First of all, this isn't "readily available data." This is protected data that costs money to get. We are lucky that it gets leaked to us.
No offense, but this was the same attitude that nearly left us with no data a few months ago. The data was originally hidden behind quotes, and people complained about it. Now they are trying not to have all the data posted in one big post, cause then people over on Chartz and other sites just copy and paste it, then share it, and link it right back to GAF.
The people that are sharing it are doing so at a risk, just follow these threads from the beginning and you will get all the information. Just write it down on a piece of notebook paper if you are trying to keep it all together. But if the people that are sharing this data, dont want it all summarized (as Aqua I know specifically has nicely requested) the least you could do is respect that.
The average gamer today probably has internet and googled Xbox one at least once after E3, if they did, they saw the avalanche of bad press.
Why do people think the average gamer is like a clueless sheltered 2d platform player.
Today even "parents" are informed because "parents" are gamers, back when I was a kid my folks weren't cause they didnt grow up with them. I did, and still do (I picked the console, not my kids, which wouldn't have happened when I was a kid). The average today is way more informed than 15-20 years ago.
What I picked up:
But if the information was anything actually important and not just video game hardware / software sales data I would totally disagree with you.
Doubt it'll happen. Will probably end with a LTD of below 44m.It slipped my mind that the Wii and 360 were that close to the PS2 in the US. Aqua do you see the 360 eventually surpassing the PS2 in the US?

Very unlikely to happen. 360 is about 4m behind PS2, and Microsoft and the industry has pretty much moved on from last gen. Therefore, it won't have years of support going forward like PS2 did. 360 sold ~1.3m this past year, and that should drop going forward.
For a system that has no backup or buffer of 3rd party in sight, it's doing amazingly and still at $300 too."great" is relative to how poorly the wii u has been doing
december npd rankings:
1) gamecube december 2003 (3rd holiday) - 1.16 million
2) gamecube december 2004 (4th holiday) - 0.80 million
3) gamecube december 2002 (2nd holiday) - 0.62 million
4) gamecube december 2005 (5th holiday) - 0.61 million
5) wii u december 2014 (3rd holiday)
6) gamecube december 2001 (1st holiday) - 0.57 million
7) wii u december 2013 (2nd holiday) - 0.48 million
8) wii u december 2012 (1st holiday) - 0.46 million
9) gamecube december 2006 (6th holiday) - 0.20 million
the gamecube, in its prime (3rd holiday), managed 1.16 million in december.
the wii u is in its prime this holiday (its 3rd holiday), but it couldn't even manage 0.60 million.

I think those numbers are great for the Wii-U.
Surprised me a bit. I thought maybe like 350-400k tops really. We know it wont be a successful console, but it may at least hold a steady decent number.
Trading Card Games are included in the tracking methods of NPD right? Does any of the usual people have the data?
Would love to see how the top 3 sold: Yu-Gi-Oh!, Pokemon, Magic: The Gathering.
Just curious
err
ok dude, so random
How big was the drop in 2014?
A 58% drop? 7th gen is going out fast.3.1m in 2013 to 1.3m in 2014.
I'm pretty sure they had it go back up to $399 for two weeks so that the limited time only $349 price didn't feel like a sham.
I understood that referenceToo easy. 7-10k.
