Phil Spencer "There are no “red lines” for which Xbox games will come to PlayStation". Still Looking for Acquisitions, Sees Future Growth.

The more successful Xbox is with this strategy the more likely Playstation will follow suit. They are a more traditional company and drag their heels when it comes to change but it will happen at some point. Just a matter of time.
There's not a single shred of evidence to support this notion but keep believing it if it helps you sleep at night.

It's like a junkie always looking for the next fix.

Nintendo are lined up and the Switch 2 will be rebranded the Xbox series N

Sad to see how the brand has gone since the dizzying heights of the 360 era.

Looks like they couldn't ever recover from xbox one launch.

Phil should do the right thing and resign and let a new generation take this strategy forward.
They would have to bring in someone fresh to rethink their current strategy

Does anyone in the current plan of succession seem like they could turn things around or just more of the same?

They are notorious about pushing people out that aren't yes sir people

I'm not cranky at all. Why would you think I am?

Replying with "you didn't listen closely" ain't exactly a friendly way of talking to people my man. I wasn't saying you were absolutely wrong. That's what "pretty sure" implies. But if that's just how you talk....ok, I guess

You can check it.

Earlier during the Update, they emphasized keywords like "older games" and "over a year old".

Later during the Update, he clearly states more games could come if it makes sense.
That's basic PR for 'any game is on the table after a certain time-window'.

We already see it happening with Indiana Jones.

I pointed this out back then as well:

Yeah....I'll check later. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong.

Lol yup. That's how I'm reading this, starfield probably next year.
I think ti's gonna be one of big three: Forza, Gears, Halo.

Remember these are the 3 games that people think of when they say there is a "red line." The current Xbox management 100% reads Internet forums and Twitter chatter.

That's why Phil literally uses these words, "red line."

I think this is referring to an incoming Forza PS5 port.

They will have to show growth from here forward to get their bonuses and with terrible hardware sales they'll continue to make acquisitions in order to show revenue growth. I don't think it's a sustainable strategy if the brand continues to die but the upcoming administration will allow them to practically buy up the entire industry expect a lot more consolidation.

I’m a firm believer that the old model of paying for niche games development that enriches the portfolio of your platform was way better than the profit driven first party of today. That’s where different systems and their exclusives take a part in enrich our medium. I’ve always defended this but it’s very obvious now that they are gone everywhere but in Nintendo how bland we have it today.

Also let’s talk how every time Phil is forced to admit that he must release games in PlayStation he looses 10 years of life:

Guess the more Satya pushes him to be the scapegoat( deservedly ) of the 180° turn in Xbox strategy, the more the zealots willing to be sucked out of blood run from him.

Phil is running out of Virgins. 😔🤌🏻

It's just how I talk. That's probably part of the reason I get into heated discussions half of the time.

I also want to hear more about the handheld. It seems like they are waiting until they can get the most out of upcoming chips. I believe it is better to wait a few years than to slap something together just to get it to the market.

I'm starting to think that the hardware (console/PC hybrid) they're preparing (2026?) will arrive sooner than a Handheld.

It would make sense to release something later that could be compatible with current games and technology and not something that will be outdated and difficult to support for third parties when XboxNext/PS6 could be released.

“The business is performing right now, and I think that means a more healthy future for hardware and the games we build.”

The interesting question is what the plan is for selling this future new hardware. Temporal exclusives? More open system/PC? Niche hardcore hardware?....

Extending and expanding agreements with 3rd party companies on all markets, extending and expanding ID@xbox, .... it is clear that this is far from signaling the abandonment of the hardware and the ecosystem in the short to medium term. Quite the opposite.

Content will be an issue, because 1st party won't be enough unless they shift to filler-trash, reducing GP appeal on Playstation
And appeal won't be much to begin with, otherwise Xbox wouldn't even be in this situation in the first place.

Adding 3rd party to GP on Playstation would drive costs for MS up astronomically, since they would have to cover the potential loss in sales on Playstation as well.

That's if Sony would allow even allow it.
If Sony is getting a cut from Game Pass, why would they oppose it? They just need to provide it as an add-on to Plus. Amazon does that with other services and I guess we disagree on the content part, because I really don't think that will be an issue. They own Bethesda/Activision and have their original first-party studios to provide content.

Because as of now, Xbox is down, but not out.
Not yet anyway.

They won't be able to have a sustainable service with just their first party offering.

Guess we'll just have to disagree there.

I feel sad for the resident xbox dudes, who spent so much time/energy arguing for this to be the outcome...kind makes me want to cry 😢

Who cares when the games are trash. ha! I haven't even thought about buying any of these games for a second. Halo and Gears is what is going to sell.

...probably why we don't see it on PS yet and I think I was hinting towards this if I didn't say it directly, that this is likely the main reason we don't see Game Pass on PlayStation yet; since they are still competition.

Yeah, we will have to agree to disagree on the content part.

I don't think Indiana Jones was going to sell a couple million on PS5.

It's a first person action game. Wildly it is single player too. They should have taken cues from Goldeneye here and at least had a multiplayer mode.

I don't think this game was thought through.

Won't appeal to 3rd person fans and doesn't have MP. It's in no-man's land and the IP isn't that strong anymore, but getting this port ready for same day release? I can't see it.
I disagree. Indiana along with nanite renderer backgrounds and being single player in the Uncharted genre from a quantifiable publisher/developer is 2-3m everyday on PlayStation....so long as it doesn't get the Starfield middling review issues.

I know the overall look of the industry is going to be drastically different because development costs are so crazy and everyone needs to make way more money and dont fool yourself that includes Sony but as someone who grew up with platform exclusives and cherishing a machine because of the experiences it alone could give me i personally am not a fan of what seems to inevitably be platform agnosticism. The idea of Halo on Playstation seems so lame to me and would really feel like a major slap in the face to someone loyal to the brand. I guess thats the mistake is being loyal to a brand. I own all 3 and also PC but prefer Xbox ui/controller so maybe that will be enough to buy future Xboxes but yeah i dont like this at all. And before anyone asks.. yes.. i am going to cry 😢

This is not in the same genre as Uncharted.

Likely to retain the "console like experience" and small enough to stick in an entertainment system under your TV
So I assumed it would be handheld with new UI/hybrid store and then PC Console box. Are you still confident to nextbox being around GTA VI time (which is slated for fall 2025 currently). Are you able to crystal ball us some hardware road map timings, now that handheld is "years" away?

Cheers.

Sounds like the strategy now is tread water until they can get Gamepass/Xbox Cloud Gaming running on everything.

they seem determined to control messaging to core fans.

It seems like that was a pre-emptive message to calm them down.
How would this calm core fans?
It’s 100% bad news, even the bit about the handheld, which is apparently years away.
What core fans want is a powerful console, like soon, launched at the GTA6 release at the latest, with a new focus on first party games and exclusives.

I disagree ... high end consoles with current hardware is something that is missing from the market and someone should finally fill that void

It wouldn't be Forza Motorsport though, as it's a duplicate of GT. Nobody would buy FM on PS. But I could see Forza Horizon being ported.
Considering how much gt7 sold and how far away gt8 probably is, I think there is a good market for motorsport on ps. Also, horizon goes without saying, even though I don't particularly like fh5, I think it will sell like bonkers on ps.

Not this, the article not more than 24 hours before this came out from Jez Corden.

The tidbit about a handheld is to tell fans that they're not giving up on hardware even if they really are.

There is no new hardware coming this holiday season and likely not next either.
