Only shocking to people not paying attention
In 2016 4K TVs were still not in most houses. A decent sized 4K was still thousands of dollars and a budget, tiny 43 inch was $650 on sale.First im hearing that the lack of 4k tv's hurt the Pros sales.
Not sure if serious. 4k TV's where everwhere in the UK and could be bought in the same price ranges like todayIn 2016 4K TVs were still not in most houses. A decent sized 4K was still thousands of dollars and a budget, tiny 43 inch was $650 on sale.
ri
Sure it could sub sample, but I doubt those without a 4K TV were buying a pro for sub sampling.
Oh I've been paying attention myself also! Maybe I didn't make what I specifically meant more clear;
For me the shocking aspect is there's been virtually no attempt at damage control in the PR; They have literally just let the brand burn to the ground.
Where's Phil? Seriously, he's been spinning yarns for nigh on a decade and now he's... where?
For real, I've never rated him on his leadership skills, but as a front-guy he was always rock solid.
They were starting to become more mainstream but still not a majority in homes and those you listed are still expensive. These days you can get a 75 inch 4k for under 1k or a 55 inch for like $250.Not sure if serious. 4k TV's where everwhere in the UK and could be bought in the same price ranges like today

Not saying everyone had one but i certainly did and you didn't need to break the bank to get one
Clearly you do.Who cares?
If you traded in your PS4 for the pro you could probably still get a 4k tv as well for around the price of just the 5 pro and drive. They were starting to become more mainstream but still not a majority in homes and those you listed are still expensive. No I agree with that last statement, nor am I arguing that the 5 Pro has mainstream appeal. The 4 Pro I do think had a bigger barrier for normies, more so than the 5 pro but not by much.If you traded in your PS4 for the pro you could probably still get a 4k tv as well for around the price of just the 5 pro and drive.
Im not having that the TV was a barrier of entry for the Pros target audience (us nerds).
Not sure what we are talking about then because the other poster was saying that the lack of 4k sets around at the time hindered PS4 pros sales and i disagreed. You could pick one up relatively cheap if needed. No I agree with that last statement, nor am I arguing that the 5 Pro has mainstream appeal. Both Pros are aimed at us. A little thing like a TV isn't getting in the way.
Can confirm, I bought a Sony Bravia KD43XD8088BU (43") for £530 in 2016.In 2016 4K TVs were still not in most houses. A decent sized 4K was still thousands of dollars and a budget, tiny 43 inch was $650 on sale.

You might still need those features at some point. My LG has as that jazz + gsync and its awesome.
Edit: the funny thing is that I’ve spend a stupid amount of money to update my 4K with stuff like VRR and 120Hz support for 40fps modes… and those are the things that precisely won’t be needing with the Pro lmao! I’m an idiot…

What do you mean by the form factor? The Series S should get a serious boost from GTA 6. It will provide the most cost effective option for playing the game to a new console buyer and the form factor will likely have mass market appeal too.
Size, shape, weight etc. The Series S is small and easily transportable, particularly in comparison to the Series X and PS5s.What do you mean by the form factor?

That's true although console sales are down generally. It's just potentially the Series S price point could make it an interesting proposition to people who want to play GTA 6. And it can also offer all the other multiplats that the mass market cares about.Yet they’ve barely sold any this year have they.
Do you expect GTA fans to care more about shape and weight than other gamers? How many of them will be carrying around their console?Size, shape, weight etc. The Series S is small and easily transportable, particularly in comparison to the Series X and PS5s.

This will be the biggest game of the decade which will attract a lot of casual players. It's smaller size just another advantage that console has. Compared to the other current generation consoles it doesn't look particularly conspicuous in a living room.Do you expect GTA fans to care more about shape and weight than other gamers? How many of them will be carrying around their console?

Not everyone is as discerning about that as they may be on a gaming forum, or can afford to be.Sure if you want to play the game in the worst possible way it's a great choice....
LOL
It's worked well for it so far.Size, shape, weight etc. The Series S is small and easily transportable, particularly in comparison to the Series X and PS5s.

Because the biggest game of the decade will be released next year, not this year. Casual gamers have no incentive to buy them right now, but in 2025 they certainly will. Then why nobody is buying Series S since shortages ended??
And why then should people buy that weak console in late 2025??
It's dead, let it go

GTA6 is due to release on the Series S and it will be the least expensive way for someone to play the game. We will see in time how consumers react to that option.#sonytoo again from you
PlayStation sales are down slightly so far
Xbox sales have fallen off a bloody cliff!

30 million people have invested in current gen Xbox, which isn't an insignificant number. We have ALREADY seen how they’ve reacted. The mass market has abandoned Xbox consoles, look at the sales, it’s dead.
Not everyone is as discerning about that as they may be on a gaming forum, or can afford to be.
Would be impressive if that was Series S. No one gives a fuck about Series S, X has caught up to it now.30 million people have invested in current gen Xbox, which isn't an insignificant number.
In any case, GTA6 hype will draw in consumers who may not typically buy video game consoles. We'll see how those people react to the Series S and the intriguing value proposition it represents.
The College Football game gave the Series consoles a boost, but that's nothing compared to what GTA 6 will do for them. In many ways that game's release will be the real starting pistol for the current generation. Many people happily remain playing PS4 and Xbox One because of the lack of incentive they have had to buy the current gen hardware.
We aren't even talking about the average gamer here, but about people possibly buying a console for the very first time to play GTA 6.You are thinking too low of the average gamer. People know what the Series S is and isn't. They are dumb.
We know 30 million is the number for both consoles combined. But it still isn't an insignificant amount.Would be impressive if that was Series S. No one gives a fuck about Series S, X has caught up to it now.
Edit: I thought it was 28M? Did they sell 2M in the last few months?
Do we? What's the source for that?We aren't even talking about the average gamer here, but about people possibly buying a console for the very first time to play GTA 6.

Possibly. But some will not have owned any console before.Wouldn't that person already have a PS4 or Xbox One though?
He’s there occasionally, did some talking at TGS, but Sarah Bond is head of Xbox now and she’s the one that needs to start building some hype if they plan to keep Xbox alive. There was some words about next Xbox being a big technical leap but the rest is all rumours. She needs to start pulling some Kutaragi hype strings fast or nobody will care in 2026 or whenever they plan to launch new hardware.Where's Phil? Seriously, he's been spinning yarns for nigh on a decade and now he's... where?
It kind of is by today's standards.30 million people have invested in current gen Xbox, which isn't an insignificant number.

Lots of Xbox users left Xbox during the Xbox One generation but they’ll lose more this generation. And not having anything in the coming 2 years is a historical strategic blunder, especially if GTA6 comes next year.
But as someone said:
Who cares?
I’m on PC now. Literally nothing would change for me if Xbox stopped existing tomorrow. I used my Xbox less than 20 hours last year and don’t play enough old games to cry over lost BC and every Microsoft game is better on PC and Gamepass for PC is better than Gamepass for Xbox. Among my friends there is only one left who’s sticking with Xbox, everybody else is on PC now. Game Over, but who cares?

Handy for when you need to throw it in the trash
They'll have to ditch that policy soon enough. Which wouldn't be a shock the amount of u turns this company does.Back in 2020 it was a decent little console and certainly helped MS through the chip shortage.
Going into 2025, the parity policy means it’s now a big hindrance, we’re going to see so many Unreal Engine 5 games next year.
They'll have to ditch that policy soon enough. Which wouldn't be a shock the amount of u turns this company does.
All 8 of them lol.Imagine the backlash from existing customers if they did though.
I bought my first dedicated gaming PC in 2014 before PC ports were day 1. I’m not sure when they started doing day 1 releases, maybe around Quantum Break in 2016?Did Xbox games going to PC day 1 influence that decision to go PC?
