That's obviously not the point of the system but that sharpening filter is a nice bonus actually :pie_roffles:

They're the same picture

Well you are the one that asked, if you knew it was the same why would you ask.
You know that you can improve the battery life without changing the controller??

Don't act so stupid. They are stronger batteries available for the Dualsense that can be build in.

Seems like Horizon Forbidden West and Stellar Blade are the two standouts when playing on the PlayStation 5 Pro. I'm hoping Final Fantasy XVI gets a Pro patch to set the game at 60FPS but with a higher resolution. Also hoping AA JRPG's like Y's IX and Y's X among others get Pro patches.

One could argue adding a form of DLSS to consoles is in fact next gen
I’d said console ran games the couldn’t run on the base, or even previous gen. Software upscaling old games doesn’t even come close for me to “next gen”. Show me a brand new console that runs games the previous one literally couldn’t. I still remember the last time I really felt something was “next gen”, when they showed the OG Gears of War for the first time. It was such an obvious leap it screamed next gen.

Now we are called AI Software upscaling for the same games we played years ago doesn’t really qualify for me.

Isnt it Hardware based ai upscaling? But diminishing returns are real for sure

Thinks buying more servers can fix a bad patch

And so, what the PS5 Pro is overall is a device that won't have a huge impact on the way most people play or experience games. The titles that are available at the time of testing show changes that are so minuscule that I can't confidently suggest people buy it instead of one of the existing, cheaper PS5 models.
That ostensibly makes the PS5 Pro fit neatly into the same category of inessential, premium-priced hardware iteration that Apple's Pro iPhones occupy. The new tech specs seem exciting, but once you've spent the money and have your hands on it, the impact is minimal, leaving you to think about whether your money was better spent elsewhere. The die-hard, need-to-be-on-the-bleeding-edge people will likely see some benefit, but for most people, the differences aren't essential. And if you're looking to play games in the best way possible, a PC still presents more value for money.

What Mark Cerny and the engineers at Sony proposed to do in the PS5 Pro reveal has been achieved to a degree. The gap between how a fidelity mode looks and the way a performance mode plays and feels is smaller. Having a technology like PSSR and a machine-learning chip in consoles is also impressive. But, for now, all of this is only exciting on paper; it's not enough to recommend over the alternative, cheaper options. And, ultimately, there is still a choice to be made between better visuals and performance, just with a less noticeable trade-off. I hope that one day the PS5 Pro really shows off what it can do to elevate games, but for now, this is a console you should get only if you've got cash to spare and just want to know you have the latest version of the console. For everyone else, a standard PS5 will do just fine.

Kinda sucks it's around 30-35% uplift in Elden, I'm feeling short changed. OK it's unpatched, so maybe there's more left in the tank.

I have a feeling From won't even patch it. I hope I'm wrong because I was planning on picking this up on PS5 and starting a new run to get to the DLC.

i had an amastrad pc from the UK and i programmed as an 12 year old in quick basic. My fave game was elite. I used an illegally printed manual so i could play it.

Page. X paragraph x word x.

Going from that console to 8bit consoles to 16 bit to mario 64 dreamcast. Was cool and all. But fuck me dude..

PSSR IS A GENERATIONAL LEAP IN SCIENCE
Well I own a pc with a 4090 32GB.of RAM, a PS5, and a series X (and my ps5 pro will be here Monday). Even though I can pretty much easily play every game on ultra on my PC, outside of obvious performance because of the intel CPU over Clocked, a 4090, 32 GB’s g skill rip jaws RAM, to the naked eye “leaps” and “next gen” and please don’t fucking insult science by even bringing that into gaming discussions, I’m not the only one who doesn’t notice this “next gen” leap everyone yells about. I’m not seeing Gears of War Vs Halo CE on Xbox to Xbox 360. That’s because the 360 hardware was leaps and bounds above the OG Xbox.

I’m not ungrateful for upgrades, but PlayStations version of dlss is a nice addition but not even close to “next gen”. Your getting slightly better AI resolution and in some cases a little better performance.

I pre ordered my pro, but this all started with PS4/Xbox one. Shitty, underpowered AMD SoC’s to ensure B/C. So if they aren’t making games specifically for new hardware, again since ps4/ Xbox one, is 700 dollars really a fucking necessity for slightly better resolutions?

As I said I’m getting it and just as I’ve always owned ever piece of hardware, graphically it’s getting harder and harder to see a difference let alone justify it.

Point is Sony doesn’t really need a pro version this time. This money invested in this could have waited another 2-3 years for a real leap.

All this cross gen bs has to stop. The excitement for a new piece of hardware was palpable at one time. I waited outside gamesome for 2 whole days on line for my ps2. Those days are long gone.

And one could argue a much more powerful cpu/gou/much more and faster RAM is what constitutes next gen. A software solution to AI upscale resolution is a hide behind less powerful harrdware. Give me a PS6 so powerful it the ps5/pro can’t even run it. THATS NEXT GEN.

PS5 Pro AI upscaling isn't just a "software solution". It has ML hardware components just like Nvidia GPUs. And you are not going to get PS6 or Xbox hardware where last gen can't run it any more than PC games won't be able to run on Nvidia 1000/2000 series GPUs.

I think what you want is a return to exotic hardware like the PS2 and PS3. Afraid that time has past for good my man.

Don't be like me and be blind to the feet that come in the disc box. Spent a good 5 minutes scratching my head thinking wtf, only to find the little package on the third search of the drive box. About an hour left on the restore. Being this side of the dateline has its advantages.

Why are people trying to judge performance on unpatched games! That's just silly. At least wait to see how it performs with actual patched games of which there are plenty for comparison: games like Black Ops 6, Silent Hill 2, and Star Wars Outlaws should be prime for these types of comparison.

History with the PS4 PRO tells us that "Boost mode" doesn't have access to the full system upgrades present in the PRO. Furthermore, people seem to be forgetting that part of the main point of the patch is to update the game to latest PlayStation SDK version which likely has optimizations in and of itself and is what the PRO is built on top of. Testing an older game on an older SDK is not a smart means of judging performance.

Good luck buying any PS6 exclusive software that can’t be run on a Pro a decade from now

It always amuses me when websites like Gamespot and IGN which NEVER mention real and terrible performance issues on videogames on their reviews, try to review hardware. "A PC can be better" well...i'll be damned. All consoles suck then.

“Can’t tell difference between ps5 and ps5 pro”

“But get a gaming pc where you surely can tell the difference”

based on prior games they'll drop a mid PS5 Pro patch out of nowhere at some random time

nonsensical, insecure comparisons.
Hey, you are the one saying the Pro offers the same quality as a brand new $2000 PC. If you are up for making such claims at least don't resort to insults the moment someone calls you out.

Pc gamers are on every PS5 Pro thread telling people what to do with their money. Instead of buying a PS5 Pro build a PC it's better and etc. That started at the announcement of the Pro.
