PS5 Pro shimmering/aliasing issues seems to be system related not PSSR. Have evidence.

So I posted this in two other thread but I think it needs a dedicated thread that we need more people to post here and find out if this is happen to more ps5 games too not just enhanced games.

I think I found evidence of the issue on the pro. Watch the video On the ps5, From 1:00 to 1:40. On the pro, From 1:30 to 2:10.

Please tell me you notice the difference? This is modern warfare III i believe. The ps5 have image crawling issue, but the pro is significantly worst. Also there are shimmering/alias on the pillar at 1:36 on the pro and there is none on the ps5 at 1:04.

This had to be a system issue.

Can someone cut these footages and line them up. This would be great.

Just to be clear. The modern warfare 3 game I posted is not enhanced so it used FSR I believe. The pro runs this ps5 game with significant image quality issue vs the ps5 running this game.

Sony must have messed up something in the system software.

Hopefully people with the pro who notice more of these shimmering/aliasing issues in ps5 games can go back and see if the ps5 has the same issue running the same games.

If you are referring to white sparkles everywhere. This happens on blackops 6 and I am sure this is either the game or driver. I have found videos about mw3 on PC with similar issues which are related to particle settings. I can also see the same issues on my PC with blackops 6 at exactly the same point as PS5 pro they are much smaller.

Maybe the pro has come in a little hot on the software side to hit the holiday sales period. It seems odd based on the timelines of what we have and the rumours of it being ready for over a year.

Something is off and hopefully a firmware update or something can fix it.

Last few days have been rough for the pro with the Alan wake 2 DF etc.

A lot of people are reporting numerous games looking worse on PS5 Pro. CoD, SW Outlaws and RDR2 being some examples. Upscaling algorithms are by nature prone to create weird artifacts and sometimes kill finer detail.

That will be 1000€ minus a disc drive, thank you very much.
Read all my post please. This has nothing to do with Sony new upscaler PSSR.

I noted there is issue on the base ps5 but the pro is significantly worst and there is aliasing issue on the pro that not present in the ps5.

The AW2 Pro version is a complete trainwreck. Perf mode has more artifacts and shimmering than base version AND worse performance while still insisting on the same sub 900p resolution. This is just a case of when too much trust is put in an upscaling algorithm and not understanding all its draw backs.

This has nothing to do with Alan Wake 2. This is a separate issue. AW2 issue mostly due to low resolution upscaling.

again. Read my post and watch the video On the time stamp I listed.

This could be a problem with call of duty as a whole since it’s all tied into call of duty hq they may have added pssr to mw3 because of all the Warzone integration

People completely missing the point of the post.

The PS5 and the Pro should be outputting the exact same image, pixel for pixel, in those 2 videos. The Pro has much worse IQ.

Has nothing to do with PSSR or anything else.

The only reasonable explanation for it would be that MWIII actually has pro "enhancements" that just haven't been spoken about.

I can see it. Stand out was there wall on the left side when going up the stairs. Does this not use pssr? It looks like it could be a raytracing issue similar to Alan wake 2.

This is a call of duty issue they have so much fucked up because everything is integrated with hq so much code of these games bleed together

MWIII is a completely different executable than BO6 or Warzone.
And it’s very possible that is is using pssr. The black ops6 pro patch was was there since launch and no one knew if you turn on the 120hz mode all of the speckles disappear

No in AW2’s case it’s about how the developer chose to go about it and their prioritization. They could have stuck with the base models settings and instead up the resolution but they didn’t.

Interesting theory, but i don't think so, otherwise the devs would have stated so.

Also, I don't notice anything different between the two versions. PSSR usually render hair different and quite a bit better, more refined but here they are exactly the same.

Have the stuff the devs said they fixed in patch notes are still broken they said they fixed the missing alpha effects in liberty falls on the 120fps mode but they are still missing

Yet they were sure to announce that long before the Pro launched.

Not a word was said about MWIII.

Character model and motion capture quality 'are exceptional'
- Lighting, volumetric all stand out.
- Modern consoles support 60 and 120hz
- Technical make up is more or less the same as last years game.

- Reconstruction w/ TAA used to create 4K result but it can break often.
- First frame after camera cuts can show the lowest native bound (1080p on PS5/SX)
- Series S targets to 1440p and can DRS to 50% of either axis when stressed with numbers in between.
- Holds well for itself, but IQ suffers when compared to PS5/SX. SSR has less exact coverage. Textures/draw distance is the same between PS5/SX. On one specific mission with longer draw distances, Series S uses lower LoD.

- Some comparisons done with the remade maps from original Modern Warfare 3

- Performance 60hz-
- PS5/SX are typically rock solid with small drops to high 50s in certain areas which more or less effect both consoles. PS5 is less prone to hitch during general gameplay.
- Series X can have small hitches when the game auto saves which are not seen on PS5

Performance 120hz-
- Campaign can see performance between 60~120hz in this mode with DRS range from 1080p to 4K
- Game also uses adaptive V-sync so tearing can also be seen.
- VRR supporting displays will benefit greatly in this mode.
- DF's recommended way to play the game.

- Series S;
- 60hz: Campaign drops frames to 40s during stress combat and one chapter saw drops to high 30s
- "Not the focus of optimization for Sledgehammer"
- MP can also see drops to 50s but majority of maps can hold 60
- 120hz: Doesn't usually go past 80 FPS with brief flashes upward
- "Falls very short at 120fps"
- Mode does have some use and VRR will reap benefits but other versions have a much bigger advantage in this mode.

This is from DF, so no ray tracing.

I have watched the video. I own a PS5 Pro and a PC, they are in exactly the same place on PC and PS5 Pro but the sparkles are far less on PC so you don't notice them. There is also a video on Youtube that I cannot find this morning that shows this happening on PC but if you turn down particles it goes away. If you turn on 120fps mode on the Pro it also goes away.

Here is a reddit thread related to BOPs 6 on the PS5 Pro. its broken and needs fixing but its just the game.

Sparkle is one thing. Did you notice the aliasing from the pro on the pillar when he comes out of the car and start shooting at 1:30?

I just think it's highlighting that they need to scale back the developers vision.

Cerny said the pro gives the developers the power they want to deliver the quality at 60fps.

This is clearly not QUITE true as developers need to make some sacrifices. I think the pro could deliver ps5 quality settings at 60fps.

Remedy pushed too far and in questionable ways. They deffo need to reevaluate that patch and scale it back.

Yeah I have noticed less fine detail on Pro than regular PS5, Its not great but I would think this will all get fixed as time progresses with system updates and game patches. I guess the price of being an early adopter. Honestly with COD I would rather it just rendered as the regular PS5 did as that was fine.

I know it can't be the machine in general though as games like hogwarts look amazing.

I think we'll (hopefully) see further patches to AW2, they do seem to have concentrated their efforts into the wrong place, they should at a minimum aim to get it to 1080p or above to get the best out of PSSR before upgrading anything else within the game. But, again, that's on them, other Devs have made some pretty significant upgrades.

The problem is evident in silent hill 2. Even quality mode looks awful
Yup, the characteristic of most of these issue is image crawling like boiling heat and there is also aliasing too.

I don't think any devs would have released a game looking like SH2 whether using PSSR or not. This is why I think it a system software issue.

The impression im getting is some developers have rushed updates out the door. Youd think some of them didnt get dev kits.

Was this game updated with PSSR or not? Isn't MW3 part of big COD package as one application?

If this isn't PSSR then it's probably some API issue or something.

Not sure, but MW3 could use dynamic resolution and a higher res could cause some issues to be more visible?

Dat $700 though. I am glad that I did not rush to buy it.
I will wait and see how things play out especially when GTA 6 comes out and it will likely be the best place to play it till the pc version comes out, and I am impatient.

You're looking at the wrong section of the ceiling. The one with the noisy specular is the next one up and visible in both (though perhaps to a lesser degree if you can get like for like shots).

But isnt that what Cerny originally implied? At least it’s the message I understood from the first presentation video: Most ps5 players choose performance over quality, so here’s the pro that gives us quality mode visuals and performance mode fps. Other than some possibly better ray tracing effects (due to rdna4 capabilities) I didn’t expect anything more tbh.

The images don't line up exactly. Can you spot a different scence when they line up? Also, the pro color appear to me darker too. More contrast.

Interesting. What would be the criteria for these issues to appear? Dynamic Res, incompatibility issues?

But why it didn't appear in any side-by-side comparisons we've seen from many channels? If this was system related shouldn't appear on every game?
I've played TLOU Part I (Enhanced), Resident Evil 4 Remake (Enhanced), Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster (Enhanced), Resident Evil 2 Remake (Not Enhanced), Driveclub (Not Enhanced), Resident Evil Remake (Not Enhanced), Resident Evil 5 (Not Enhanced) and all looked better than base PS5 in a way or another and performed perfectly.

Only exception would be SH2, which I've tried for a minute, and looked broken but also different, as there was in Performance Mode the GI only found in Fidelity on base PS5, so there's obviously something's else going on there.

Most of the PS5 games were already temporally stable on base PS5, RE4R less so and it looks stunning on Pro.

It’s like a denoiser switched off or something or some bug in general with the system. It’s as if it looked good to the developer while developing it and then when it released it looks completely different.

Maybe just maybe they built it on an older iteration of pssr but then Sony updated it on a system level so the developer needs to go back in and patch it again. We’ve seen this before with DLSS so it wouldn’t be too far fetched since it now affects several games and I don’t think this would pass through both the developers and Sony’s quality control without someone noticing..

MW3 isn't a Pro Enhanced game. What you're likely seeing is a higher resolution game which had noisy specular but because it was rendering at a lower res was not resolved on a regular PS5.

This isn't a PSSR game. It's a non enhanced game. The developer didn't develop this for the pro. It's boost mode on a regular PS5 game now showing higher resolution resolve of specular noise. He hasn't compared the correct ceiling though to see the specular difference at the right light source.
