Quality of the PS5 Edge Pro controller is horrible.

Rubber will eventually degrade into that sticky unusable mess in my experience, so I never buy anything with rubber surfaces and I use caps for analog sticks to have something replaceable.
It's disappointing when I try a new mouse or controller and there's rubber on it. I can't keep it knowing it has a time limit.

It's been a known issue since it launched, how widespread it is is anyone's guess. It seems as though the issue comes from those pins not having enough glue mixed with said pins not being rigid.
This is just a reminder post from a year ago, but there are pics identical to the OP's, and some saying it happened within a month or two as well.

It's not even plastic, it's rubber. It's a known QC issue.

I returned 4x elite controllers 2 .
These pro controllers are all scams and have absolute dog shit quality
Although elite controller 2 is just the goat of controller it's qc is just plain garbage

Agree wholeheartedly. Mine doesn’t have any rubber or plastic or any damage. Its just stopped holing a charge for more than just a very few short gaming sessions.
Also, it never felt premium in my hands like the Xbox elite series 2.

It is like the dudes who said that the usual DualSense gets "dirty" very fast... I've seen a dozens of threads like this.

Jeez, I have two kids, one being a 14 year old boy and my controllers look decently clean from launch and I dont clean them that often either (the controllers that is, the kids do have baths and showers)

others have reported it, so you're not alone. And some not long after release. However I've not had any issues at all on both of mine. And they're both well over a year old, bought not long after release, early 2023. And I use them a lot. From other pro controllers with custom grips, I know to be careful with what you have on your hands - I'm talking about oil/petroleum based moisturisers and soaps etc. They can eat away overtime at grip materials. I avoid them and have never had any issues, including the infamous OG Elite.You can buy aftermarket shells and also buy replacement grips. So there are options to fix your current problem.

Judging from this thread the edge is as shit in quality as the elite series 2.
Absolutely loved the feel of elite 2 but after 4 returns I'm not paying 10 dollars for it .
You know the worst part ? All 4 had different problems
Buttons or trigger not registering, skin started to peel off in a few days , stick drift and I think the last one had a faulty b button that register like 50 percent of the time.
With the last controller I thought u know I can adjust to the back peddles and don't use the b button but then I realised I'm paying so much money I can have 6 of the regular controllers and last me like 10 years do I returned it and bought an original controller that is perfect to this date.
Moral of the story avoid these so called pro shit quality controllers from Sony and Microsoft

Nope. I just wash my hands and take care of it. If I take it somewhere, it goes in the case. Otherwise, it just sits out. This is the only pro type controller I have had no issues with. Went through too many Elite controllers. Those things are hot garbage. Bad triggers, terrible shoulder buttons, stick drift within weeks, etc. My Scuf lasted less than a year. The left stick barely works. Which is a shame, because I really liked that controller. The Razer I tried, felt cheap, especially for the price. I can see sweaty hands being an issue with any kind of grip like the Edge or the Elite have. I'm fortunate to not have that problem. However, I wouldn't let my son near it. His hands are like damp washcloths (so gross).

Probably really warm sweaty palms and a low-quality rubber material. Rubber will contract when exposed to heat and moisture and will expand when cooled resulting in bubbling.
Maybe slightly in their defense. The Dualsense Edge has only been on the market for about 2 years. This problem is probably something that would escape the QA process and only show up through the warranty process. Even if they have identified and fixed it by now, there could still be old product on the market.
The serial numbers on the controllers can better ascertain the origins of a controller, but probably only to an extent.
Maybe we should put together a google doc with model numbers/date of manufacture. Not something consumers should have to do, but might be necessary here, especially if Sony isn't going to acknowledge it and communicate steps.

My first reaction was to blame the OP too. You often see people complain about their products where you own the same product and yours are fine.
I own two Dualsense controllers. Both in perfect condition.
But the Dualsense controller is different. The grip is plastic rather than a rubber polymer.
This is happening to a lot of people, so they're not all leaving their controllers on space heaters.
This means that the rubber is bubbling and what causes rubber to bubble? Generally, poor vulcanization but it could be a problem in the mold or even in the coating.

Yeah, fair point. If it is a defect, hope it's taken care of so if/when mine does it, we have a clear solution.

Mine is like that too, even worse because its peeled out almost halfway. I got it like that in a trade so I don't care too much, it was basically free.
Apparently it is a common issue and you'll find reddit full of posts about it. Just google dualsense peeling grip.
I have not much else to say except send it back. I'll just buy a custom mod for mine and call it a day.

Normal DualSense is terrible too. I had one with severe drift after approx 3 years which I couldn't fix and put in the trash can. My second had some drift at the left stick too after about 6 months of usage but it didn't return so far.

What I'd say is that mine hasn't had these issues. But I'm pretty dissapointed with the build quality of every controller I've owned.
Elite controllers have cheap plastic clacky triggers and buttons. Dualsense has cheap feeling sticks and flat buttons and bumpers. After a few rounds on cod both feel like they are barely hanging on. The edge is a little but more solid but still doesn't feel like a premium controller.
Most premium one I've felt is probably the scuff envision and that is fairly cheap feeling compared to price and sticks are a disgrace.
Kk3 is pretty good and has the most premium sticks and buttons. Just let down by back buttons and overall feel.
