I'm baffled by how many of you gave it a D or E rating.

Plenty of new games, plenty of good games, lots to see in 2024, and I was super stoked on concord.

Show bests:

PoE2
MH Wilds
Concord

Why do Silent Hill 2's character's faces look like shit still.

It's like Konami deliberately picks out developers with artists that can't do good human faces.

Gave it a C, much thanks to Astro Bot which looked absolutely phenomenal. Ballad of Antara looked cool, Path of Exile is dope and I'm still down on SH2, despite looking rougher each trailer they show. Concord was the biggest disappointment. Guardians of the Galaxy rip off and a generic hero shooter. I don't get why Sony are going down this path, it's garbage. Be happy you knocked it out of the park with Helldivers and get back to your single player glory. Overall these State of Plays are kinda shit. This one almost lingered on an E to the very end.

Astro Bot looked amazing (but no VR WTF)
Monster Hunter looked good
Alien VR looked good
The one other Japanese themed game looked great
Path of Exile looked good too.

Decent, but overall it wasn't great.

There is definitely some stuff I'll be buying in there.

Ballads of Antara, Astro Bot, Monster Hunter Rise...

Shit was fine.

D

As amazing as Astrobot looks and as much as I can't wait to play it, the fact it isn't a PSVR2 game is really deflating considering how incredible the original was.
Astro's Playroom was a PS5 game and was fantastic, happy it is available for console gamers. We needed something this year.

D. Watched it because I was intrigued to see what Concord was, they could not have turned me off that more.

I gave it a D rather than an E because Astrobot looked like it might be worth playing, but some huge over reactions to it IMO. It looked okay but didn't see anything new in it - looked like a pastiche of every 3D platformer I've ever played, with a worse lead character. If it's full price it will bomb hard - $40 and I might be tempted if it reviews well.

D and not E because Astrobot. And even Astro was there solely because it releases aerlier that Sony will reveal PS5 Pro with a showcase.

Overall, very weak slog of old contracts (SH2) and late to the party mistakes (Concord).

Astro Bot.
Rest of the show was holy meh, but Team Asobi went fucking hard.

God of War drops from an A to a D

Outside of Astro nothing was interesting. I dont care for online games mich anymore and even canceled my PS+ sub. Astro online save the day if it has PSVR2 support. If not ill wait for the price to drop on it.

Edit: SH2 would be interesting if it appeared high quality but as it stands it looks rough enough for me to pass.

D.

I will definitely buy Dynasty Warriors Origins and Monster Hunter Wilds.

Astro Bot seemed really well made, but I don't like that type of game.

I like Overwatch, but Concord did nothing for me.

Those Chinese souls like games seemed cool, but I dunno if they will ever be released.

Silent Hill 2 seems ok, but still... Blobber....

Everything else, I don't care.

Well done for literally only talking about PC games.
I guess if you're a ps5 only guy or Xbox only guy , your gaming life is fucked.

I play pc ps5 and switch. I have to share all 3 of these devices with my son. So something like path of exile 2 saying it had cross progression and cross play is god level announcement to me who plays Diablo 4 on pc and ps5.

The opener with concord killed the whole vibe already and its to preorder. Imagine doing a b2p hero shooter in 2024.

C. There were 2 or 3 bangers but the rest was very meh. Seems like the worse MS does, the less Sony tries. Regardless, the new Astrobot game looks dope as fuck. Loved grabbing the platinum in the first game.

*shrug* overwatch has a msssive player base that s hungry for a better game and dev to eat their lunch.

I'm one of them. This and marvel heroes has hopes to scratch that itch.

They are too comfortable. I'm sure they have some good stuff cooking, let's see some glimpses of it in terms of the bigger games.

Maybe they will have a showcase in August/September.

That was awful and definitely one to forget. Apart from Astrobot and maybe 1 other, the rest could have been done on a blog post.

Hopefully the showcase is not too far out and where they reveal a Pro (if its actually releasing) and show the top PS studios games running on it.

I would rather have scrubbed shite off toilets for 30 minutes than be subjected to this garbage show. That's how bad it was. The worst show they have ever done.

Which is f2p. They try to sell this to massively overstuffed market.

F-

Nothing close to A list. Nothing worthy of being on a show. God of War would have been the only thing that met that criteria if it wasn't a port of a game 90% of us already played.

Everything there could have been revealed in a Gaf post without batting an eye.

Booooo get the rotten fruit.

D+

I tried to be charitable but it was pretty bad. I dont think the Astrobot artstyle isnt great. Robot Kratos, flying controllers. A bit cringe. I'll get it on sale.

Some good multiplats: Dynasty Warriors, PoE, MH, some Chinese games.

Overstuffed?

It's overwatch.

TF2 is dead. That one the smite devs make is a joke niche player base game. That's it.

What are the other successful ones out there?

This showed (again) how the "Fortnite-effect" is really showing in mainstream gaming.
Concord looked like it's tailored for the Fortnite generation, and everything had to be so "edgy and cool". Only thing I guess I want to play here at some point is Astro and Silent Hill 2. And Ballads of Antara, which is very far away.

Pretty much exactly what I expected from a State of Play. 7/10.
+1 For the Alien VR game and Astro Bot.

-1 for not announcing PS5 Pro, its getting beyond ridiculous at this point.
