What's the draw of Half Life? The only thing I remember from it in high school was my friend saying it was awesome and me telling him Metal Gear Solid was better. For some reason, it never clicked for me.

Yup. That’s what it is. Called it a few weeks ago. It’s probably just an announcement logo and no trailer or gameplay. That’s all they need to do.

Imagine comparing some new woke garbage ND game to an event that would melt the internet.

Please bruh half life was literally the game I begged my dad to get me my first graphics card as a kid and half life 2 was the first game I paid 500$ of my own money of to upgrade for (a lot at the time) and they have squarely been in my favorite games since I rank half life 2 3rd all time on my personal list and naughty dog is just as talented as valve at making games any all day

They just need this scene

I'll enjoy seeing you not being hyped if indeed this does exist.

Its kinda sad that a sequel to 2 of the most influential games of all time wouldn't excite you.

I get excited for the things that I love, and I love stories and characters. Valve haven't finished the story that they started with Episode 1, and they've absolutely shat on the characters since then.

Why would I get excited for a possible Half Life 3, other than the fascinating prospect of consooming product. And I'm going to repeat myself:

It is kind of sad seeing all the "mind blowing" reactions here, because there's a strong sense of arrested development to this whole thread. I'm not saying people shouldn't be excited, god forbid. You do you. But if you actually believe this news would "blow the internet" - that's what I actually find sad. Because it's been 15 years. The world has moved on. But you clearly haven't.

A LOT of this thread reads like mindless "must consoom product and get excited for the next product" from people stuck in arrested development.

Was it just PC peasants (at the time) being jealous of all the awesome console games being released around that time? Half Life was so sterile.
half life 1 was a great step progressively for people who grew up with doom and played quake, and half life 2 had a lot in terms of physics interaction. this was before consoles really had any notable FPS except a few ports here and there.

Currently replaying the series in VR, and its still the greatest first person game series ever made. Half Life 2 was revolutionary in terms of its physics, and the pace of the storytelling is pitch perfect. It's the exact right mixture of satisfying combat, narrative world building & mystery and environmental storytelling.

Please be VR exclusive again or at least have a VR mode.

After HL1, HL2 and Alyx in VR, I don't want to go back.

HL2 in VR is better than 95% of every other made exclusively for VR game. As is Portal 2.

How are you guys not aware of the best gaming experience of the past 15 years - Half-Life Alyx?

Go buy a VR headset and play Half Life Alyx.

It's so good that I would be disappointed if Half Life 3 was not VR.

At this point I don't even know if Geoff should be thankful or pissed at Schreier.

On the one hand he hyped up the even so probably more people will tune in.
On the other hand now people expect a Half Life 3 tier announcement...and they'll get like a Cg trailer for a remaster of that 360 Bionic commando game

Before Half-Life the linear action adventure game didn't really exist. If you look at Tomb Raider from just the couple of years before, there was much more focus on "exploring levels" that going on some uninterrupted seamless action movie type adventure. I wouldn't say it was totally original, since Another World was out long before.

I don't get it, either. I bought the first game at release and really enjoyed it and the multiplayer. It was a good game. I never felt the urge to even try the second game. I don't know why people are creaming their jeans over this series.

Half Life 3

Deckard VR compatible
Also 2D
Steam OS exclusive

Meaning if you want the console experience, you buy their new steambox

Really no reason it shouldn't be VR compatible given how the VR mod for HL2 is. Also, they should release HL3 (flat/VR) and a new Alyx equivalent (Deckard/VR only) in the same year, really stir things up.
