There's a dll file you can drop in the game folder that will make exclusive fullscreen become borderless and HDR works appropriately.

Cheers dude! Only issue i've seen with this is my performance tanked for some odd reason in certain places. I'll take that sacrifice for now since i hate exclusive full screen.

Does anyone know why the visuals get so grainy when you turn off any type of scaling? Is this supposed to happen?
(In the video look around the outlines of the trees, as the ground gets smeared thanks to the GeForce recording (despite it being in 1440p) and YT's compression)

They really, really need to fix the pack of dogs spawning right on top of you asap.

They immediately attack from all sides before you even know they’re there, they move super erratic, there’s six or seven of them and they deal insane bleed damage.

This shit sucks so much.

Assuming this is not getting any worse from now on, definitely GOTY for me
I'm so happy the initial scares that it's rough are not nearly ruining it much, and it's probably huge as fuck, 9 hours and still in the first 'lesser zone'

FSR 3 frame generation is an unplayable mess, input lag is unbearable. I get decent performance with a 3060 Ti/9700k—around 40 fps/1440p—which is playable. I use high settings with DLSS on balanced mode (quality mode runs at around 30 fps, probably). For some reason, I couldn't activate HDR, but I'm working on it. I'm swearing at the person who came up with the idea of the 'bolt-throwing' story part rn. I can't pass it.

As much as I love the atmosphere the combat encounter design is really poor here. It’s far more frustrating than it is fun, in particular non-human enemies. They take far too much ammo to put down and are extremely difficult to track/engage with.

Putting that invisible mutant in the tutorial is an insane move. Games with “souls-like” difficulty work because they are fair to the player - generally when things go badly you know exactly where you screwed up.

Here, gunshots don’t flinch the mutants, you dump half a mag of bullets in them and they just keep trucking. It’s very frustrating - not clear if the game is trying to tell you to run away, use other weapons or what.

HDR only works for exclusive fullscreen now, unless you look up the mod for borderless that was mentioned somewhere

Interesting, I haven't noticed any difference in performance on my machine, but I've only played for a little over an hour. Hopefully they patch the game to get rid of the exclusive requirement.

I've also mentioned this, and well after checking my gpu-z when restarting the game it said I was using ~21gb VRAM on my 4070Ti with 12gb never seen that before :messenger_grinning_sweat: This happened 8 hours in after reload on death but not ever before and hopefully not to often going forward

It looks a lot like ue4 games. The foliage is meant to have some kind of post process, without it it will look terrible. Lots of ue4 games have the same issue if you turn off taa. Maybe try using DLAA Or something and see if that makes a difference.

Yes. 99% of today's games are made with TAA (or other form of temporal AA) in mind. Their assets are made with it in mind and they look broken without it. I first noticed this years ago in games like Ghost Recon Breakpoint and many others. This is normal and most games do not even allow disabling temporal AA.

I think the randomly spawning mutant is most irritating one. All the mechanics turn into a shit show when this guy shows up, 100x worse than dogs.

For me its mostly the main town area, before using this i was walking around and talking to people in buildings fine. I used this and it drops to 3-5 fps while trying to interact with someone in buildings specifically. Just an odd thing.

always chasing the next thrill
this is the buggiest game i played in a while and enjoyed at the same time.
it feel like a 10 year old game.

the environments are rather dull. i just went to the second area But i dig the atmosphere.

Don't think it's related to the fix. I picked up a piece of paper and my game tanked from 60fps to about 4fps.

Just to refresh my memories I fired up STALKER Clear Sky from 2008

God dammit these old games still look so good, the skies, the dynamic shadows from fires and flashlight, those god rays

Hilariously, when fully maxed out in 1620p it ate 280W of my 3080Ti when vsynced to 60fps! They can still give new GPUs a workout.

You cheated not only the game, but yourself. You didn't grow. You didn't improve. You took a shortcut and gained nothing. You experienced a hollow victory. Nothing was risked and nothing was gained. It's sad that you don't know the difference.

MY GAME, MY CHOICE.

Bruh .... some of these anomalies are like straight up poltergeists .. I'm in a building right now and there's what I can only describe as a fire spirit chasing me throwing columns of fire in my way.

It almost looks like the game does not default to TAA or UE's TSR by default when removing scalers, which would probably be a first, typically to force TAA out you need to apply UE commands.

UE is made with temporal solutions in mind, whole backend of effects is made with a temporal solution to smooth it out.

The controller behaviour needs tweaking badly.

Line up your crosshair on a target in the distance (e.g fence post) and push up on the stick to walk in a straight line towards it. See how close you end up.

I’m often miles off, tottering towards it like I’ve been on the whisky all night. 😂

For bonus laughs, try and move your crosshair a pixel or two to the left or right. Laugh as it lurches a good inch or two across your screen.

It really is horrendous on default settings.

(Quality mode as I don’t see why I should skimp on graphics when the performance mode runs so poorly anyway).

Have played the first 30 min - 1hr on XSX on performance. So far it was bearable, but from what I've read once I get to the main town it'll take a hit.
As soon as I entered the zone area, a fucking large chode wet dog looking thing spawned out of no where and with the default high stick sensitivity - I also span into the beyond. Not sure if that was a purpose jump scare but geez it got me hahaha.
I think I'll see how it runs on my 3070ti... if it's a bit more bearable there I'll continue on PC otherwise will wait for a couple of patches or something - but the minimal I played, I love the tone and presentation (so far).

1. Screw the damn mutant dogs lol, probably my worst enemies collectively thus far.

2. Just had two super tense moments during my session tonight. One involved me getting curious about a windmill farm town in the distance after helping some guy recover his brother’s body from an anomaly. I head over there, walk into one of the abandoned homes, and find that there’s a passage that leads to a cave.

Me in my infinite curiosity and stupidity, drop down into said cave, and start hearing dogs barking from within the damned thing, as well as seeing a bunch of dead bodies lying around. I tried to nope out of there as fast as possible, but lo and behold, I can’t climb back out from whence I came, forcing me to essentially delve deeper into the suspect ass cave, tightrope past an anomaly, and climb out the other side as fast as possible lol.

The other moment was when night had set, and I stumbled across a random campfire. I went and sat down in front of it so I IRL could check something on my phone, when I literally hear distant gunfire and grenades going off like, 10 seconds after I just sat down. I get up, go hide behind some rickety fence and waited for it to die down. Eventually it did, leaving me to think I was safe to leave, until I notice the little “spotting” marker on my HUD, and hear a group of dudes coming straight towards me.

There was this run down shed directly in front of me, so I quickly dipped in there and knelt down in the furthest corner on the left side. Thankfully, it was night, so the shed inside was pitch black. So I waited for the three guys to pass, with two of them even slinking their way inside of the shed to look for me, flashlights on… But they thankfully didn’t look over in my little hiding corner. They left, and I waited maybe 10 seconds before getting the hell outta there lol.

This game is crazy so far man.

Just started today, after some resolved shader compilation crash errors things have been smooth sailing since. Am an hour in and am getting 90ish fps on an old ass 9900k with a 4070 ti @ 1440p epic settings. Am impressed with the game so far, cant play too much now but will sink some hours on the weekend. Hope you guys enjoy the game.

Love this kind of stuff. I so wished it had released on PS5

This game on pc has no control support, how did this game even get good reviews? Imagine releasing a FPS in 2024 without controller support. 😂

Just completed the prologue on XSX and got into a town. I don’t know why so many reviewers complained about the prologue, it was fun and felt like STALKER to me.

It feels great to be back in the zone. So far the only bugs that really annoy me are the stick drift and the background audio cutting in and out randomly.

Reached the second big zone and promptly spent almost all my Tokens on upgrading this really nice armor I found.

Not sure if I want to upgrade weapons cause literally every enemy drops them, just use and discard.

Finally tried this on Xbox. It’s horrible. Maybe there is a better experience in there or on a good pc. But this game shouldn’t have come out on console. The controller drift is insane. Stuttering in performance mode is nauseating. I get what the devs are going through, Actually I don’t get, because I never have been in a real ass war. I blame this on Xbox, Microsoft with either not helping them out or forcing them to ship this. Microsoft games just suck, why can’t they get their act together and release decent content on console. Bring J Allard back. He gets it.

Play in Quality mode, even the PC version is severely CPU limited. Quality mode is a lot more 'consistent', practically a locked 30. Also, Microsoft didn't publish this game, GSC games did.

Loves his juicy stink trail scent
Immediate top of the list fix needed:
-Always needing to compile shaders everytime you boot up the game.

Game's performance is so hard to gauge.

On a 3080 I can put it to 4K, Epic settings, DLSS quality, and turn on frame generation, and get 80 some fps, then it'll hitch all over the place to drop to 28, 47, 38. No rhyme or reason where or when. I was in the prologue area to get the location code in the bunker, and it was in the 20 some FPS, then a door opens at the end to the outside, and the whole area i've been in the last few minutes, is back to 60+ FPS, even though I haven't stepped outside yet? Super weird.

Tried to turn it down to 1440P, High settings on everything, DLSS balanced, frame gen on, and I'm now over 120FPS, but the same drops are eeeeeeverywhere.

I don't want to sit here, as I don't think anything exists, to hold a good visual and make it so I only hitch rarely. I also got a weird screen flicker from time to time, but the stuttering was making me actually sick so I had to stop playing.

I will say the invisible dude in the prologue was a nice fight, and the poltergeist on the ship was a cool touch. Lastly, the game in 4K on max settings really wasn't a looker, but that could be the prologue intro areas.

I may try again tomorrow with some other settings, but that's it for my initial try.

I believe the drops are ultimately coming down to some areas being much more CPU limited than others.
