Same for games? quality of music peaks at age 17 and you begin to start hating any music made after you're 35

Oh man, try classical music - nothing of value was made for the last 80-90 years probably. Rachmaninoff died in 1943, I don't know of a single great composer since then.
There some awesome contemporary classical music.
Arvo Pärt is one of my favorite composer

On topic, there is so many genre of games/music and also so many release that I don't see how it's possible to not like something new.

I can't listen any mainstream music but there is plenty of more niche artists that I like to listen.
Same for games. There is so many releases that I always find something of value in my eyes.

Love new games, love new music. But I’ve never been one to really care about a specific band or genre when it comes to music. If the tune is catchy, I’ll enjoy it.

That said, I’m not a fan of GAAS and I’m not big on online multiplayer, which are both bigger than ever today.. But I wouldn’t say I enjoy new titles in genres I like less these days or that they’re worse than past entries.

I'm still finding new music to love regularly even though I'm well over 35. I also love new games. I do have a special nostalgia for the music and games from my youth but I can also see the flaws.

I feel sorry for people who feel this way. Imagine having nothing to look forward to in your life because "everything keeps getting worse".

39 here, I love new games but I'm completely out of the GaaS wave. I prefer playing single player/solo 99% of the time I can't stand online interactions.

No, music really does suck now. It isn't like our parents who couldn't grasp a rapidly evolving industry compared to their nostalgia goggles.
Out of the tons of songs that release every friday and hundreds of albums per year in every genre?
Games are on the same trajectory but we're not there yet. Movies and TV shows are close.
Out of the hundreds of games, movies, and TV shows that release in nearly every genre per year?

No i’m not a salty cunt and can still appreciate modern games.

Such bullshit.

I still hate realistic sport games like i did on the megadrive.

Nothing changed the only thing i won’t touch is free to play games.
Because they sure as fuck are not FREE at all

Althought it rarer, I still like new music and new games. So yeah, this is stupid but probably true for for more limited in scope people.

While I'm sure there's truth to some this, it still doesn't account for the steep decline in quality in AAA games. Games used to actually be good products on day 1. Now we are lucky if a game ever gets patched into something decent.

At age 48, and having played games for most of my life, I strongly disagree with this. In fact I might actually love new games as much as, and in many cases even more than, old games.

There are of course games from back in the NES, SNES, and Arcade eras that probably get some extra points due to Nostalgia (Rastan, Strider, Magician Lord, Blaster Master, etc), but for me, while I love my occasional nostalgia trip down SOTN lane, new experiences are the reason I keep playing games.

I would say, at least it's fair to argue, that those of us who have been gaming for a long time (guessing most on these boards) keep gaming in search of re-experiencing those magical feelings of our earliest gaming years; staying up all night to beat Super Mario Brothers 2 with friends or whatever that was for you.

But here's the cool thing about games, at least for me so far, is that having these types of experiences has never really stopped. For as long as I've been gaming, every year or so something truly surprising comes along and pulls me right back in like I was a kid all over again.

Every platform has had these for me, whether it's N64 and Jet Force Gemini or Dreamcast and MDK2, PS2 and Shadow of the Colossus or Gamecube and Metroid Prime, PSVR1 and RE7 VR, and so on and so on....

I keep hearing new games aren't as good as old ones but personally I think that's complete nonsense. There have been a handful of amazing games for every generation. They are just few and far between. That's not new. Always been this way. Plus; as far as new games go, I don't care how old you are, go play HL Alex or Elden Ring and tell me old games were better. I call bullshit!

Nah..

Actual main stream music is really trash or some stupid covers etc.
I still find alot of new songs I like to hear.

Games:
The main problem is devs/publishers changed their focus from Fun/creative games to milking the gamers as much as possible.
At least the bigger devs/publishers do this non stop.
At the same time is incomprehensive how the dev cycles / costs have risen, trying to create AAA games only to release Pre Alpha games for full price.
Best example GTA:
On PS2 we got 3 mainline GTA games.
Today we get the same game GTA V on 3 different generations.

I'm glad i can still enjoy modern games like i did when i was a child.
People who really think this should just hang the controller and find another hobby or just retrogaming, it must be miserable to be this pessimistic with your hobby.

Sorry Muppets GIF by Nickelodeon

I enjoy new and old video games and music.

Although, I feel that many people like to pretend to hate new things just to feel superior or different.

It becomes far more rare for both to impress me.

Cage the elephant is the only somewhat “new” band I’ll listen to new music of.

For games I’m far more open and play new releases monthly. My quality meter points to older games being far better than most new games.
They are good. I saw them live in 2017.

The idea that the tastes a person develops as a dumbfuck 17-year-old never develop further in 60+ years of life is wholly depressing.

Might be true for sheep people that like what is popular without having any own taste whatsoever and then sticking with whatever was great in a certain age when they were most impressionable...

I like some modern stuff, but I like also some stuff that was made before I was born. I certainly have watched MTV and others stations during my youth, so have more visual memories of those music videos and formed my taste around that era too, but I discovered a few of my favs much much later from very different eras.
The same with games. Loving the few titles I got to play in my budget when I was young was probably quite easy. Squeezing even something out of a turd, since there won't be a new game for some time otherwise. With an abundance of games on can quite easy become bitter about not being blown away with something. Being drowned in games is not always great. But objectively the number of great games we get each year is just insane compared to the rather few banger years we had in the past. Innovation is stagnating, since PS360 era, so the past years before naturally will be viewed with those rose tinted glasses, but the average game today is probably better than eg Starwing/fox or Goldeneye and their basically unplayable atrocious framerates, janky animation, lack of voice acting, terrible visuals and sound effects and we are finally back at those loading times...

There is still good new music that I like - I just need to look for it and for most part I don't really have the energy or time to do it. Or a real need.

But it is different with movies and games. There are still great movie being made all around the world and I'm totally ready to embrace them. Once in a while I focus too much on old stuff like obscure exploitation movies from 60's and 70's that I haven't seen before, but I never ignore new stuff completely. There are many great new directors like Daniels, Durkin, Baker, Zahler, Eggers etc.

Maybe because I wasn't too much of a gamer in my wilder youth days, but imho games are better than ever now.
