Sony E3 2012 Conference Thread

On reflection...I'm downgrading this conference. Its worse then I thought. There's nothing new. There wasn't anything novel. We got to see a cinematic for the new Quantic game and a single ten minute segment of interesting gameplay from The Last of Us. Everything else, literally everything else I would have expected as run of the mill announcements or trailer releases.

To be fair, Wonderbook was both new and novel. It just also didn't work on the night, had an interminably long demo, and never really got the audience's attention.

I do think my nieces would lap it up, even as it sent me into a numb stupor.

I know it's E3 but I can't believe sony conf didn't even feature a japanese publisher, while a non japanese console maker like ms still able to feature capcpom.

they did not even show soul sacrifice :P

From a gameplay standpoint. Yes

They are about equal I'd say. Usher said he choreographed some of the moves for a dance game and then he danced, with his backup dancers actually doing the moves from the game with the game playing the background on a great big screen. It's a pretty clear relation that seemed to go over quite a few heads.

I would think some of you have been around long enough to remember that E3 isn't about megatons. Temper your negativity ya'll.

Ubi - A
Sony - B-
EA - C
MS - C-

Sony - D, it had 2 good games (beyond and the survival game) and they decided to kill the Vita. Also had some move stuff and apps that I am not interested in
MS - B, showed off the usual sequels, some apps and the smart glass concept that will probably go nowhere. And MS got the B because I want to play the games they showed.

For me:

MS*: D (Halo saved it from an F)

Sony: D+ (God of War, the extra + for free PS+ games)

*I didn't even bother watching MS conference, woke up too late and didn't bother watching it after reading the play by play. Watched the Halo 4 footage in glorious 1080P though.

So wait you grade Micrsoft when you didn't even see it? SMH

I'll admit, I lol'd.

Yeah, it's real.

The people cheering the violence were the handful of the public who camped there days prior. It felt like I had the worst bunch behind me. "Last of Us has so much swag," said the kid with a fake ID that he flaunting before the show.

What ? There seemed to be extreme clapping and cheering for about anything, guess that explains it.

Guys, it's known that Sony uses plants, but so did Microsoft at their conference.

Sorry Vita owners.

Can't see the Vita...in the end...getting more software support than the PSP.

And god help them if Apple comes out with a home game console and Sony has to put most of it's game R&D only behind the PS4.

It won't be a home console in the same sense of the word. As for the Vita - it's unfortunate because it's a sexy device. Not a fan of its analog sticks but the damn thing is a sexy piece of hardware.

I don't see what was so good about the Ubisoft conference. All three focused on a few of their big franchises instead of showing everything they have to offer.

Depending on how games are integrated, I think PS Mobile and Smart Glass has already made the WiiU controller obsolete. Nintendo is in trouble.

C'mon dude.

10 minutes into Wonderbook my net stuffed up... I get back online 10 minutes later and Wonderbook was still on and continued on for another 10 minutes. Depressing.

My grades for day 1:

Ubisoft: A-
Microsoft: C+
EA: C-
Sony: D

This was NOT the conference Sony needed. They're in a bad bad way right now financially, their new handheld is floundering, and yet they come out with...this? Yikes. No real significant announcements, a few good software titles (with Last of Us especially looking GREAT), no real focus on Vita at all while talking up Playstation games on mobile devices, and a 15+ minute time wasting segment on people sitting around idly waving a wand at nothing in particular. Just...really really bad. Passable because of the quality of games like AssCreed III (which we got to see at Ubi's show and will probably see again at Nintendo's), God of War, and The Last of Us, but otherwise not a show that's going to help their business out at all.

EA had some decent looking games surrounded by some monstrously anti-consumer bullshit. Microsoft's conference can best be described as safe, boring, drab, and conservative, though at least they did make a movie with SmartGlass that might steal some of Ninty's thunder, and you can't say they didn't bring some of the biggest franchises, even if they are woefully lacking in creativity.

Ubisoft had an amazing show with fantastic games, mostly terrific presentations, and just an overall strong showing. It only loses points because of Toby being annoying as fuck and that tedious eSports segment. Surprising domination of the day by Ubisoft. They really came to play and made a real statement today. Kudos, too, on being the first to show the Wii U in action for real.

Ubi worker in the Watch Dogs thread says it's current gen. Pretty hard to believe though.

Edit: LOL conspiracy...
>_<

I think there may be one, that trailer was too awesome to run on anything but a PC, though I hear the page says current platforms. Hmm...

Demo was on PC. Game is pc/ps360. WiiU not confirmed/denied at this point.

Wonderbook and gameplay? This is really reaching there dude. Want to compare music next as well? Actually, there's gameplay in Dance Dance Central 3 so this can be debated.

Usher wasn't demonstrating actual gameplay, simple as that.

I don't particularly care for Wonderbook, but care to explain how that wasn't gameplay being demonstrated?

Ubisoft: B-
Microsoft: D- (I'd give it E if it wasn't for HALO 4 which as non Halo fan -besides CE- looked awesome)
EA: C-
Sony: C (I actually like Quantic Dream's stuff so I'm ok with it, plus I don't have a Vita to be pissed about lol)

I demand "House of Leaves" on WonderBook.

"That door(1) wasn't(2) there(3) before-"

*turn the page*

1- Door: A hinged, sliding, or revolving barrier at the entrance to a building, room, or vehicle, or in the framework of a cupboard.
2- Wasn't: Contraction(2.a) of was not.
2.a- Contraction: The process of becoming smaller.
3.- There(3.a): In, at, or to that place or position: "we stayed there eleven days"; "I'm going in there"; "the opportunity is right there".
3.a- Not to be confused with Their(3.a.a) or They're(3.a.b)
3.a.a- Their: Belonging to or associated with the people or things previously mentioned or easily identified.
3.a.b- They're: contraction(see 2.a) of they are.

"-So I was doing cocaine off this hooker's tits"

*move the straw over the hooker's tits with Playstation Move Remote

So wait you grade Micrsoft when you didn't even see it? SMH

what was there to see? I read through a play by play, and didn't see absolutely anything that would make me want to sit through the whole thing. Still went through the conference fast forwarding through everything in case something stood out (only watched the Halo footage without skipping).

Both conferences were pure shit. I'd even rate Wii U's abysmal pre-conference above them.

I wish they'd closed with Playstation All Stars. I thought it looked pretty cool, and honestly The Last of Us just isn't doing anything for me.

Haha, looking back at the opening, Tretton was just damage controlling the press conference. I love the guy, because he was/is honest and Sony has taken a much more honest approach to their PR, but looking back it is kind of funny.

I think had they erased the Wonderbook from the press conference and maybe put in a few more games or even logos, the presser would've been better. I wanted more Vita. Hell, I would be happy with the entire press conference being one big Vita show. Going from such a strong start to Wonderbook was a complete disaster and killed all momentum they had. Wonderbook just ruined it, the lack of new games was upsetting and no huge announcements that blow people away. Not even a PS3 price cut.

I can't help but think the Vita is simply an afterthought to Sony, now. Sure, they announce a few games here and there but they have either already been leaked, not shown off in a good way or are simply ports of PS3 games. They are repeating the same mistakes they made with the PSP and that is sad. The machine has so much potential and they are just sitting on their thumbs, it seems.

Next E3 will most certainly be about the PS4 and the Vita will again become simply a filler for the sake of pacing the press conference.

Unfortunate. Disappointed, but still better than the Microsoft presser. Nintendo is going to destroy everyone, I think. Shouldn't be hard with a new console to show off. Sony needed huge announcements to help the company in general... didn't do it.

So you graded MS lower because you READ it was worse that Sony? SMH

I really over hyped myself when I saw Syphon Filter listed, nothing besides an MGS5 announcement could have cured that .

how freaking stupid of Sony to demo All Stars and THEN just say oh yeah Drake & Big Daddy are in. SHOW THEM IN THE DEMO!

Literally at one point the dancing was synced up to the moves on Dance Central, which IS the gameplay of Dance Central. 'Simple as that'

So you graded MS lower because you READ it was worse that Sony? SMH

why dont you go back and fucking read my one sentence assessment of each?

Only thing of interest in the MS conference, was Halo 4 (it was amazing, which is a lot coming from me since I've only really liked the first one). It's not like I read people's opinions on a forum to make my decision, Like i said a million fucking times already, I read the play by play, and had no interest in watching the entire hour plus show. But I still went through it all, fast forwarding in case there was something that would catch my eye.

And for Sony, it was God of War. I gave it a + because they announced 12 free fucking games for PS+ subscribers.

you're really bitching that I gave MS a D, and rated Sony higher at a D+?! They at least also showed two other games (never shown before) that people are into, Uncharted 4: Not Uncharted, and Ellen Page: The game, which I wasn't into so I left out.

Ubisoft: A-
> FarCry 3, Watch_Dogs, and Assassin's Creed III were all rather good presentations.

Sony: C
> Saved by Ubisoft: Assassin's Creed III Boat Scene + Liberation, and PS:AS:BR.

EA: C-
> Dead Space 3 has jumped the shark, but looks like a decent Gears of War knock-off now, and Most Wanted looks fantastic. Everything else was boring as all fuck.

Microsoft: F
> Fuck them. Fuck their fratcore fetish, their non-game bullshit, and their DLC exclusives. Nothing save for Halo 4 at the start even resembled a showcase from a game company.
