Star Wars Outlaws |OT| Robbin' Hutts

Loves his juicy stink trail scent
Alright, got it. Played for 3 hours. So far, its okay, visually looks nice, no doubt, but not without issues. The blur around the edges is annoying af and just like DF said, if you turn the setting that deals with all that stuff to low, it makes everything wobbly when you move. Very annoying. Also the low texture bug/loading after playing more than 2-3 hours is another annoying aspect. Everything else is just ok, nothing really good or great despite what the Disney bots on gaf say. Will continue to play it tho.
Gets better imo when you can go into space on your ship etc.

Doesn’t mean it’s a massively better game but I enjoy this more than wu Kong lol.

I saw a thread on reddit detailing all the things you can do to help out the stealth gameplay, many of them involving Nix and using skills that you don't unlock early on. Things like stealing imperial commanders communicators so they can't call in backup, disabling alarms, using nix to attack two (!) at the same time while you attack a third, environmental sabotage, etc. For example you can sabotage the alarms/comms and then go in guns blazing if you like - it will prevent the endless backups from coming in. I think we really have to look at nix as basically the other half of Kay's ability set. Plus as you progress you get clothes, items and food that add modifiers. I'm wearing a coat I got on the snow planet that absorbs some blaster damage. This seems to be a game that opens up quite a bit as you play it more ... perhaps they open it up too slowly for people and they get frustrated.

Finishing up Visions of Mana, time to pop this in next.

Probably gonna avoid as much of the open world bloat as possible cause I don't want to spend a lot of days with Space Marine 2 also coming soon.

It depends lol

For me, I like to go based on how I feel. I usually start a game looking to just do the main missions, but if the world really grabs me and I'm immersed, I find myself looking to do EVERYTHING lol SEE EVERYTHING! Lol

I'm like that a lot. It really depends on how much the world has moved me, but I can be that way even if I think its a solid world, but I just want to do the main missions or something. I rarely 100% games these days, so the choice to see something completely is usually based on how much that world I'm enjoying at the time.

So its sorta always subject to change.

What I see and feel in the world must have substance or else even a good looking world to me can be purposeless. Like CP2077. I love how the world looks, I went into it looking to 100% it, but with how shallow the world was, so many missing elements, it was like.....even if I go to this area, nothing is happening in this game that will reward me.

No gangs to join, its like like joining factions in Starfield

Thus, that want to do everything subsides and its like "if this is..everything, do I even want to see more of meh"? lol

If it has that random quest from a random NPC, join or side with faction, go to this place and see or do this etc I'm more willing to seek to see more if I'm enjoying what I'm getting.

Kinda bizarre and misleading that the pre-title settings that you get on first boot show the 21 : 9 mode as an actual 21 : 9 mode like it would be on PC, but in the game itself, it just adds black bars top and bottom (Console).

Will be playing on Series X, favor quality 40hz with FoV expanded to 90 but in Full Screen.

I seriously think the game’s main problem is that the mission to get the splicing expert on the first planet is just not worked up to properly…it’s not just not having the equipment and abilities, it’s that they don’t explain or demonstrate jack diddly shit up to that point.

It just dumps players into the deep end with no proper explanation, tutorial, or demonstration, and it’s basically just figure it out for yourself. Finding out there’s a wanted system right in the middle of the mission, learning randomly there’s a dodge roll by tapping B/circle twice…just figuring out how the whole alert/alarm systems work…absolutely none of it is explained. And frankly it’s basically my biggest gripe by far, I otherwise enjoyed it but that part was a fucking horror show.

I pissed off the Crimson Dawn and now I cant get any new quests or progress because I have to be friendly with them to do this upgrade for the speeder or some shit. I think I can stealth it maybe but its pretty annoying at this point, its not a bad game but im glad I did the ubisoft plus this and tried it out. Its not all bad because AC Mirage has impressed me a lot.

I'm standing right above a trooper, I want to send Nix to attack him but the way point just won't go there. Instead the way point only targets other enemies I don't want to target. Sigh.

The wanted levels can get annoying. For some reason it just won't go away now and a female voice keeps telling the troops where I am. How the hell does she know when I'm hiding? This is on foot. Is this a bug? Other times the wanted icon went away pretty soon.

I'm in this Pyke base and killing everyone. The alarm has been sabotaged, yet the game finds a way to keep spawning enemies. That's lame as fuck!

40 fps Quality modes are a godsend. The one in this game feels pretty smooth, at least in the opening areas.

Performance is a little too blurry.

I've been reading your experiences in this thread and they are opposite to mine almost in a way like you are "missing" something.
There's generally multiple alarm panels, but even without those, the factions can "call for backup" using personal comms devices, which you can have nix steal.

I finally started this last night and to me this is such a bipolar experience. Half the time I am super frustrated and annoyed and the other I'm having fun. Something I saw in a review that I was worried about is just as annoying as the review stated. Those stealth missions where if you merely get spotted, you have to start the entire section over. In 2024? Seriously? So annoying.

Also, some sections where you have to make your way somewhere and you have no real idea where to go. It seems each area is annoyingly laid out.

But I do think the world is really cool and feels like Star Wars and I'm enjoying exploring it so far.

Bit the bullet and am about 2 to 3 hours in.

I am enjoying the gameplay - I can see what people say about the stealth sections, but I suppose I am used to that and perhaps more tolerant of being kicked back to the start to try again when you get screwed a bit by the controls.

The DEI stuff is jarring I am sad to say, as some people have said it is like old Star Wars. It isn’t - it starts off in that shitty place from Last Jedi which is supposed to be a galactic den of gambling sin but feels like a family restaurant, the main character has her breasts bound, the only white guy so far who is not a baddy so far is a ‘they’ and the Empire, despite basically being the Nazis in the originals, are now equal opportunities employers, with half of the storm troopers being women.

I will persist.

Overall I am having a great time though. Haven't taken the time to write my impressions yet because I'm kinda hooked to it, haha.

I was hoping I would wipe the whole base out and then just explore and take my time to find shit, but they kept coming. I only saw one alarm, however I didn't steal the comms devices. If I steal that, enemies will stop coming in?

I don't think stealing in combat does anything, but it should prevent them from calling more backup, thing is the backup can have more comms devices; best thing is just to break combat instead, and then steal the comms devices, and then proceed to killing everyone as loud as you want.

I really appreciate all the accessibility options modern games throw in. Turning off the rhythm mechanics for lock picking and 'always spring' On immediately.

I'm retarded?
Im confused by the slicing mechanic. I know how it works, its just that Im playing on hardest difficulty and the attempts are at fewer but when I fail the third one, it doesnt fail, i can just continue until I succed? So how is this hard? wtf am I missing. Is it bugged in the sense that, no amtter what u cant failed? Whats the point of having a silcing attempts setting if it doesnt do anything lmao

I do think the cities / towns / whatever should have been less convoluted. I just needed to run in and speak with a NPC for a quick mission, and instead I was navigating a series of tunnels and rooms until I finally reached the cantina or whatever.

But yea, for all of its weird design issues the world is the best realized and looking Star Wars stuff in a game ever IMO. And the excellent surround sound helps to alleviate the frustration of navigating some of those weirdly designed areas.

So is this another Jedi Survivor game, pretty lousy optimization at launch?

It's Star Wars, I'm interested, but I'm willing to wait for a Han Solo skin and play it on PC.

The performance is mostly good on PS5. Everything looks and sounds amazing, but there are some pretty noticeable dips in framerate in dense areas. Nothing egregious IMO, but if one is a stickler for performance than maybe wait for the PC version.

Outlaws runs quite well on PC with the latest patch. I even turned RTX Direct Lighting to High on RTX4070Ti and get my 40-60FPS which is perfectly acceptable for this kind of game. Before the patch I ran into VRAM issues pretty much within 10 minutes from launching the game with this option turned on.

It's not perfect though - they have to fix the annoying bug when textures start to load only in low quality after an hour or so (this doesn't happen with RTX DL off so I assume it's still some VRAM shenanigans) and reduce shimmering here and there but this still miles better than Jedi Survivor. Even today Jedi survivor has a lot more framerate spikes and looks worse with DLSS on. There is a patch planned this month so I hope for improvements.

Can someone answer these questions because these are going to play a big part on whether I continue to play this game or shelve it.

1) Does every base you enter to retrieve something that you are in bad standing with have infinite waves of enemies spawning? So far I’ve done two and it seems like if I’m spotted the enemies keep coming and coming with no end in sight.

2) is it easy to improve your reputation with factions?

3) is there anyway to shoot on your speeder without the adrenaline boost? I haven’t found a way to do so, so far. But it seems like the enemies chasing me can.

No, it runs "great", as in as well as it could with all the tech it's pushing, there's forced software raytracing and there's a lot of vegetation/npc density in cities/overworld.
Tatooine However runs at a locked 60fps for me because it has no vegetation; same for indoor mission areas in on any planet.
It has no shader compilation and no stutters, it's just heavy to run in certain aspects.

This might not be the case for every mission, but it seemed like I was able to improve my reputation into the mid level with just a few missions for each faction. In fact I was able to get my rep into "good" or whatever with one of the factions with just one mission.

I am guessing this is something Ubisoft is going to tinker with in the coming weeks.

Honestly, at least this is an offline game so it'll survive long enough to become a free game on psn or epic at sometime.

Damn this game looks good. Snowdrop engine is beast, I wonder if this is the exact engine Massive will use for The Division 3.

and don't think you gone sneak by that Mana comment lol
. Probably the best JRPG I've played this year.

Ok, but that is because Metaphor: Refantazio or Dragon quest 3 hd-2d remake didn't release yet -_-

1) Only Imperials have a wanted system in or out of bases

2) Fairly easy as long as you don’t drop too far in rep you can just grind some easy smuggling missions; if you drop too far though the handlers won’t have missions for them, so then you have to work your way out of the dog house by giving data to one of their traders, siding with them in one of the side missions that involve them or sometimes when doing a contract mission for another faction ND-5 will give an option to double cross them for a different faction.

3) No, but adrenaline regens really fast on the bike.

Quick question: Can you finish the side quest stuff after the credits role? And: Can you access all planets at all times or is there a point in the story where there is no going back?

Yes, you have free roam after the final mission.

You're locked into the final mission until you complete it, but the game tells you this in big letters on screen so you don't misunderstand.

Why is the save system so trash?

You do all the hard work to silently ko all the people, turn off the cameras etc. you get to the next checkpoint and if you reload for whatever reason, the enemy, cameras etc. Are all there alive and well, what the fuck man...

Just save the entire state of the game, not just my fucking position making useless all my past work...i get not enabling quick save to cut the save scum, but when you decide to save at least don't fuck my shit up...

I swear this game has so many incredibly stupid game design choices...
