Star Wars Outlaws |OT| Robbin' Hutts

Uh. What? I thought the whole deal with storm troopers is that they were clones. Why would an army clone women as soldiers?

I haven’t paid attention to Star Wars since episode 2, so pardon my ignorance.
IIRC, clone troopers were phased out once the Republic became the Empire. By the time of the OT movies, there were few clones left.

This game is really strange. I'm still really early game and am upgrading my slicer. Just done the mission where you infiltrate the imperial fort.

I'm not friendly with them and then I'm locked inside and have to escape the compound? I die, then everyone respawns in the area while I'm put back upstairs. I dunno, I just ran out and their poor shooting let me. I don't know what to make of it really. There was no way to stealth but equally I have no loud options.

1) Only Imperials have a wanted system in or out of bases

2) Fairly easy as long as you don’t drop too far in rep you can just grind some easy smuggling missions; if you drop too far though the handlers won’t have missions for them, so then you have to work your way out of the dog house by giving data to one of their traders, siding with them in one of the side missions that involve them or sometimes when doing a contract mission for another faction ND-5 will give an option to double cross them for a different faction.

3) No, but adrenaline regens really fast on the bike.
I was doing a couple of the very early missions where you need to sneak into a base and get the ID card to get into a vault and one of them was a Pyke domain and since I think the stealth is pretty tedious in this game and too time consuming, I opted to just go the combat route. And it seems like once the enemies are alerted to my presence they endlessly spawn. I sat there fighting them for like 20 minutes and must have killed like 80 enemies and it was evident this was never going to end.

I'm not sure if this applies to every area or not. So far I've done two areas like this, neither imperial(both were Pyke) and once I was spotted they endlessly spawned.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
It's an head scratcher for sure.

The game's also pretty bad at some minor ambient shit to let the player know what to do in an environment.

We laugh at Atreus spelling out the solutions to puzzles but this is the polar opposite. Have the character just say a line if you're stuck or need to do something specific in the environment ala Lara Croft or something.

If you’re in their territory creating a ruckus and have them all on alert, yeah they will keep sending people. You can pretty much just re-hide (even if they have the red alert symbol over their head they will only look or fire in the general area you were last seen similar to MGS5) or just simply leave the area to end it.

You’re going loud in a stealth game…and like any other stealth games it’s kind of meant to be a slog when you go at it like that. It’s even more lenient than most in that regard since you can kill people before they set off alarms and basically get through bases guns blazing as long as you’re quick, get the alarm panels and prevent people from hitting them on the way and keep shoot and scooting so they can’t keep track of you.

No I actually prefer this, at first I was trying to solve shit as fast as possible because I hate it with a passion when characters start telling you what to do, but then I noticed kay doesn't say shit and it's great.
Why would she anyway, nix vision gives you all the information to solve a puzzle anyway.

The one particular instance I had to look up, nix vision didn't really do much. It was essentially the first usage of a new thing I got before the mission, you'd expect at least a small tutorial or prompt the first time you have to use it.

For the most part I agree but it pulls some red herring textures/environmental bullshit, like the cliff textures that really look like the claimable surfaces but aren’t claimable with the horizontal lines in the rock, and the rubble in some spots that looks damn close to the rocks you can blow up with the power mod for the blaster…doesn’t help when I’m trying to spot an orangish splotch on a rock surface on a planet where at that time of day the RT global illumination makes everything look orange 🤣

I think the rocks look pretty distinct because it's not a just an orange splotch, it's a kind of grass/moss that's growing all over it, there aren't any other rocks that have visible vegetation like that.

What problem do you have?

The story mission Breakout,
the first time you have to use the explosive bolt on your blaster. There's no sign posting from the game that you should consider using it on a boulder that's blocking one of the switches.

Yeahhhhhh, it's time to get off Toshara and continue the story.

My "issue" with open world games such as these is I want to do everything, and as soon as I get a new quest I want to finish it before going to the next planet. But these quests keep coming and that's a good way to get tired of the game without even having seen much.

It show the simbol of the power shot if you aim to the rock but i get what you say.

But i think the robot tells you that you can break some rocks when you get the module.

My biggest gripe with the game from a design standpoint is it honestly doesn’t have proper tutorials or examples for most things going into the first planet, and the first planet is basically designed like the others at roughly the same difficulty level, despite it being the first planet everyone is forced to do.

The double tap circle/B to dodge roll thing isn’t explained at all…anywhere…like not even in the controller layout, another is blindfire over cover…basically hip fire without the left trigger behind cover to have her shoot without exposing herself …

Yet the game is designed so if you beeline the story, you are going to go headlong into a shitstorm situation without even knowing the basics like that…and then the player is likely handed a ‘wanted’ status in that same mission where the tutorial prompt doesn’t trigger until you get it …and will almost inevitably have that tutorial prompt pausing the game at juuust the wrong moment 😚👌 and yet … even then…after screwing you like that so thoroughly with the tutorial prompt…it doesn’t even have the curtesy to explain the Wanted system fully 🤣 ; ‘Goto the ‘Death Troopers location’ the next prompt says while getting swarmed. Then after actually breaking out of the firefight and going towards the Death Troopers it gets you being put on a timer for going out of bounds during the mission 🥳).

The game really does have redeeming qualities and is one of my favourite Star Wars games, I’d say I liked it even better than Survivor and Outcast… but at the beginning with that ‘figure it out for yourself by surprise’ difficulty bump was fucking annoying; I literally was cussing out the devs on that imperial base….It was nothing but senseless trial and error because the game up to that point didn’t show or tell me how shit worked: ‘will the guy looking at the other guy go on alert if I shoot him with the stun?’ (It’s caution state), ‘Can I do a take down an enemy silently right behind another without alerting them?’ (yup), ‘How far is the view distance for enemies’ (about 100 yards give or take but snipers can view farther) etc.

Renpalli Station

So there's this door close to the entrance, it has a elevator where there's some loot and two data pads. But when I try to exit this place, I can't, the door won't open at all. Anyone else had this too? I want to keep the loot but if I can't get out I have to load up a older save.

Cant you just highlight another mission, hit triangle to show on map, then go to said map and hit up a fast travel spot?

I wasn't able to fast travel to the landing area of my ship on this station. So I'm assuming that wouldn't have worked either. It's a weird door, because just now I tried to go in the room again and it didn't open, lol. Seems bugged.

If it's the door right near the hanger exit, then I don't believe you're supposed to be able to get in without the proper crimson dawn side quest

Yep, it's super close to that. You have the merchant on the other side, in the area where your ship is. For some weird reason it opened automatically and I decided to go in. But that was just one time only.

I'm shelving the game once my Astrobot arrives. There are just too many horrible gameplay and design decisions that are absolutely inexcusable for a game in 2024.

You can't carry any non blaster weapons up ladders and such, almost every action makes you have to drop it, which is so fucking stupid.

Getting in good standing with a faction doesn't prevent you from still having to sneak around in those factions strongholds for certain missions. You still have to do it, which kinda defeats the purpose of gaining favor with them. And if you get spotted and have to fight your way out to finish the mission you'll be in bad standing with that faction again. Making the effort to get good rep with them wasted.

You can only shoot on the speeder with adrenaline rush.

Enemies endlessly spawning in certain areas.

Getting stuck in the environment on bullshit. How many times I'm about to get spotted, but couldn't move because a minor piece of metal was on the floor in my way and for some insane reason she just won't step over it.

Awful checkpoints and so many missions are stealth missions where if you get spotted you have to do it all over again.

Again, I like seeing the Star Wars universe created and really wanted to play through this game, but I simply cannot tolerate those gameplay issues. They completely sap any fun out of the game and every fucking session I've played with this game within 30 minutes of me booting it up has me bored, frustrated, and annoyed. Unless future patches fix some of this stuff, I just can't justify playing this one any longer. It's a shame because I really wanted to explore, but these flaws make it miserable to play.

Not that anyone cares, but final comments on the game.
7/10, without the Star Wars connection probably a 6/10, if I am being honest.
Nix is the star of the game and would have made George Lucas proud as a toy to sell. Adds to the gameplay and it's very Star Wars.
ND-5 was well done especially for any clone wars or 'roger roger' fans, more than expected out of him.
The main character, like her look or not, is okay and belongs in the universe. She could slide into Mandoverse pretty easily.
The game is held back by bugs, mission design choices, weapon system, the usual ubisoft issues.
The forced stealth and instant fails are pretty terrible.
Shadows of the Empire is still my perferred cannon. It would of been wild to remake that entire storyline in a game engine like this.
Dash Rendar would have beem better main character, considering Han is on ice during this period.
Doctor Aphra would have been an interestign take as well with her droid crew.
Kay as a character does grow on you, she managers to overcome her appearance for the most part.
As a slicer, thief and adventurer it works she is the Nathan Drake of Star Wars.
The skill system and unlocking contacts and chasing specific tasks to unlock better skills was good.

Overall, it leaves you wanting and wishing for more from the developers on a technical level, with a lot of room for improvement.
Deep down, you know they could have done better and made the game an 8 or 9 out of 10.
I don't question their passion for Star Wars and the respect for the lore/universe, it was appreciated.
Some real nice easter eggs and appearances for hardcore fans and supplements War of the Bounty Hunters lore/comics.

As people have said, I think being able to build the character as Stealth based or Guns blazing would have added a lot more. With options to tackle each mission in different ways.

It was at times a frustrating experience, but overall enjoyable.

So I have intel for a smoke bomb compressor. It's located at the north west of the map, close to a imperial structure. But there is no way to get up there.

I googled it and turns out I have to finish one main quest first. It's a bit confusing that the game gives me these side quests when I can't do them yet, lol.

Yeah, the game has small issues with messaging like this to the player now and then.

Navigation in space in tight quarters when you're looking for a specific thing debree could also use more work.

Little things like that here and there that make it look and feel unpolished.

Everywhere I go on Toshara I'm getting attacked. Do I pick up missions later to return when my standing is good? I can't find any missions to do for that faction yet.

I'm OK with crimson dawn

A doctor aphra game would be awesome. I don't trust disney to make it mature enough.

Also ubisoft has had there chances with star wars. Let's let sucker punch make the next open world star wars game. Ubisoft has completely run out of ideas and just redskins assassin's creed on star wars.

Alright, I'll give the game props for having the best version of Tatooine in an SW game. It looks / feels very lived in and very close to the OG movies.

2 crashes in the last hour, one in the middle of a story cut-scene.

wtf Ubi. 🤷‍♀️

i finished main story after 26hours, i think looking at discussion about this game online it is clearly overhated, 7/10 perfectly fair score for it, maybe even 8 if you are Star Wars fan.

Neighbours from Hell
I played some more yesterday until my Astrobot arrived. During a short 2 hour session I experienced:

A bug that caused my controller to endlessly rumble until I exited the game back to the dashboard and rebooted(just reloading a save didn't fix it).

It not allowing me to manually save saying "You can't save while in combat" even though I wasn't in combat at all, I was in one of the cities in a safe area. Had to reload to fix it.

And encountered other annoyances: during missions where you have to interact with something to progress the mission, it won't let you while you're in combat. Essentially forcing you to either be stealthy or eliminate all enemies. You can't be in the middle of one of those missions and just sprinting through it if you choose. You MUST do one or the other.

You randomly can't climb certain hills and rocks. I was trying to climb up one to approach an area from an alternative vantage point and it's like she just hits this invisible wall or slippery patch when trying to climb up where the game just REFUSES to allow you. It's like this game was designed to force you to play their missions in a specific way. The most boring and tedious way possible.

And one more: I found a key card in the wild, which activated a new quest. The quest marker pointed me to a vault. So I went to the vault. After getting caught about 10 times trying to get through, because I tried to do it in a fun way, when it seems the only way to do it is to annoyingly whistle all the enemies over one.........by..........one..........slowly........annoyingly....... and also sometimes when you hold L1 to bring up the Nix options it will randomly select an enemy way in the distance instead of the one right in front of you, leading me to getting spotted and having to fucking restart the damn mission all over again. Anyway, so I got to the vault room and it tells me I can't access it without ALL the key cards. Which it didn't tell me I needed before I got into the fucking vault like a normal game would. I thought the one key card was enough. Once I got into the vault, the mission updated showing two more key cards. Why it didn't do that when I found the initial key card I have no idea. But thanks for making me waste an hour of my time getting into a vault I couldn't even access.

All I can say is I'm thankful Astrobot arrived because I was at my wit's end with Outlaws. I hate this fucking game. Every once in a while I will stumble upon a game that I can't say is objectively terrible, but I just fucking hate. Like it checks every box on things that are on my list of "Annoying things games do" and Outlaws has like 10 of them so far.
