Star Wars Outlaws |OT| Robbin' Hutts

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife
Game seems to look very pretty. Sadly the gameplay also seems to be average as hell.

Might try it later on, once it's cheaper and patched. Perhaps by then there are mods so the MC doesn't look like one of the Bogdanoff brothers.

Went the Ubisoft+ route. Have played a few hours now, figured I'd give my impressions:

+ Environments are amazing, especially in the towns. So much detail, so many NPCs and robutts scuttling around. Really feels like you're in the Star Wars universe.
+ Not sure how I'll feel about the story going forward, but I actually like it so far. At least, I like the premise that you're doing jobs for the cartels and the reputation can swing up/down as you see fit.
The setup is pretty cool, but from what I've seen in reviews/impressions, Kay's motivations aren't too expanded on....
+ Riding on your speeder, flying across the environments, is BAD ASS. It looks and feels good. I know there's jank with sudden stops and such, but I'm really impressed with it so far.
+ Haven't' played Sabaac yet, but the upright arcade games I've found so far are neat, glad to see that kind of thing.

- Oh dear gawd the jumping is awful. Seriously, wtf, you look like Trinity in The Matrix, floating from one ledge to another.
- Speaking of ledges, climbing just feels weird. Like, you're never feel like you are stuck to a wall or balcony and instead are floating near it. Hard to explain, but it just feels bizarre.
- Sneaking isn't as solid as it should be. There's no cover system at all, so you can and will have NPCs spot you from down a hallway just because your elbow was sticking out from behind a box.
Realistic I guess? Not fun, though, having to do a whole sneaking level over again because someone spotted you due to lack of a cover ability.
This is exacerbated by the sneaking areas not having clear direction as to where to go. Now, granted, you are supposed to figure this out for yourself, but I was already getting
frustrated by the whole trial and error of it all. If there's one thing that may make me quit this game, it's this.
- Music. It's hard to say how good this is because it seems to come and go at a moment's notice, so it's hard to pin down a track, listen to it, and think "Ok, that's good Star Wars music."
- I know this has been mentioned to death, but Kay's face is just fucking terrible. You could split granite rocks with her jaw.

I'm honestly having a tough time getting in to it, I've barely got past the first mission for fuck sake and I'm just at awe at how so predictably right I was seeing previews showing that movement and shooting is absolutely dog shit tier coming from a studio that did amazing shooting and movement.
All I can think of is they have a bunch of inexperience devs that couldn't hold a candle to their previous.

Like, is there a cover system? Can you shoot around a corner without having to strafe out and expose your entire body like it's a game from 1997?
All I see is the option to crouch? Just shoving my face into every desk and wall? ugh.

Edit: Also from what I've seen from vids, AI is really bad too.

Division 2 looks so much better than this, plays so much smoother and intuitively, the gun play for 3rd person is just...👌 and the ai react so much better to numbers/positions/flanks or being overwhelmed.
What happened?! Going to try some more later this afternoon.
Yeah, i have no fucking idea how they went from division 2 gunplay\enemy ia and perfect cover mechanics to this thing, maybe the bulk of the team is making division 3 or they spreaded the team too thin to make outurds and crapatar...

I went and bit the bullet. The hate and mixed reception got to me as it always does in these cases no matter what the game is. And its fucking Star Wars dude.

I only got to fiddle with the options before heading to work and there's a decent variety of shit to turn on and off and adjust.

Like for example, Karak seemed pretty positive on the whole experience and said to drop enemy health to "story" but to keep yours on "hard" so not only are the fights a little more intense, but you're then able to take out guys with a couple blaster shots rather than a dozen.
That would make the game too easy imo.

And ubisoft games are already pretty easy in general.

I would hate zero challenge way more than sponge enemies tbh.

Eh, it's more "realistic" to kill a dude with a few blaster shots than 10 🤷‍♂️

And I adjusted my health to the hardest difficulty so hopefully Ill be a bit of a glass cannon.

We'll see later.

I don't care about realism as much as having a decent challenge tbh.

There actually is a bit of a cover system and it seems to work like the tomb raider games; in the imperial base on toshara, I stopped at a door and was setting up a twofer so I wouldn't be detected, so I started aiming at one of the guards and she leaned out of the door opening instead of me having to strafe like I was expecting to.

Agree with most of this, except the highlighted part? There's definitely a cover system, though I'll admit it's a little weird -- there's no button to 'trigger' going in and out of cover but if you crouch behind a half-height object like desk or rail you sort of "snap" into cover and can move around or pop in and out while aiming.

I didn't find the climbing to be that weird/off-putting but jumping definitely is.

Cover system seems to be contextual like tlou, but not everyone that does contextual cover stuff does it right.

If this game has enemies seeing elbows coming out of cover from afar it should need a regular cover system with button prompt if they can't manage a good contextual one.
Again, not sure why they didn't used the perfect cover system of division.

Ahh thanks on the cover system, it just didn't seem like there was one, definitely felt odd to me, but then again I'm early on.

I don't have the game, but someone in the review thread said that you can turn off the lock pick game in the settings.

I just looked it up on Google:

"Changing the Lockpicking rhythm challenge option to "Off" will disable the Lockpicking minigame. This can be enabled again at any time by selecting "On". On the Lockpicking difficulty line, you can change the difficulty to "Easy", "Default", or "Hard"."
oh thank you i saw that but then did not see it when i was over the lock pick trash.

The game doesn't seem to always save the state of the game correctly; i infiltrated the imperial base on toshara, disabled turrets/cameras, saved and went to sleep.
When I reloaded the save, every enemy was back that I had previously eliminated, and the turrets/cameras were turned back on, which was double weird because turning them off gives you intel for a side mission, which it did correctly save and was still tracking. 🤷

Been having fun with the game so far. My main fear was that it was going to be as half-baked as Avatar was, and thankfully it's not. In many ways, Avatar feels like a prototype for Outlaws, particularly when it comes to the reputation system (which was mostly pointless in Avatar).

Yea makes it look fisheye.
Except the default FOV in 21:9 also exhibits mild fisheye...

Fill screen + 90 FOV (or 75-85 if that's your preference) is virtually the same but without the top and bottom being cut out.

It's not the same though, you can't add more viewable area to a locked aspect without distorting the image, especially if you're also adding vertical viewable area.
The slight edge distortion at 21:9 is simulating the same effect when using an actual widescreen lens to film something, but there's no vertical distortion.

I have the PS5 gold version coming but I'm second guessing it and wondering if I should just return it and go the Ubisoft + route for 1 month. I was hoping to get the trophies for it though so I'm in a pickle. Hmmm. How's everyone liking it so far? It seems like people LOVE it or Hate it.

Game has left a pretty bad first impression so far. Also the HDR is all over the place. But it has some very pretty art. What's the best way to share screenshots on neogaf?

This game does not like the 1080p resolution. Everything is on high and rtx on medium and it doesn't look very pretty. Too bad I saw the game in 4k and it's really nice looking. And is there a option to lower the blurriness?

Ps5 has a 40 fps mode? Likely go that route for this one.

I doubt my 3080 will make this game look or run well at 4k

MAN, watched a stream of it for a few hours... looks like same old same old ubislop. Not complete TRASH, but just so bleh. How can ubisoft be so talented at creating middle of the road games? Its like they never ever go above and beyond.

Also dear lord is her face busted af. Like whyyyy make her look like a lizard? The chin game too strong.

I am getting the standard edition so I have wait to play. But everything I've seen looks good. It's pretty funny how you can compare the reviews of people who are genuinely playing the game withthose who merely parrot YouTubers who make a living by being relentlessly contrarian and see how they're not even playing the game.

Anywho, looking forward to the 30th or whenever this game unlocks for standard ed PS5 owners.

turn lens effects to medium.

And oo course film grain off.

a couple hours in...

had to kill the mini-games (lockpick, splice). pretty fucking awful. otherwise, not as tight mechanically as i'd thought it'd be, but, as a stealth fan, i'm having a good enough time so far...

How long is the game if you do side stuff too? Im not talking about 100% completion here, but doing main stuff and a decent amount of side objectives too

I had the exact same issue, posted about it in the reviews thread. Probably should have posted it here, but I’ll quote it instead:

Of my 6 hours 19 minutes played time thus far, almost an hour of it was spent trying to get out of one particular mission because the game either bugged out or simply did not properly maintain the mission progress state. Without spoiling which mission specifically, it was a mission where I was inside an Imperial Base and had to shut down the turbolasers in the control room. I did that just fine, except, afterward, Kay fell through the floor, clipped a texture and "died" from falling (the fourth time I've had that happen, by the by). When the game reloaded at the checkpoint, my mission progress was accurate but all of the enemy mobs had respawned as if the mission was at its starting point. Including the two in the room where I respawned who were insta-aggroed as soon as the game loaded. In addition, the anti-personnel turrets, which had been disabled as part of the mission, were now back to their pre-mission default state -- so as soon as I walked out of any door, I was instantly targeted by them and the whole base was on alert. I finally managed to make it out, but this mission alone almost made me throw in the towel and uninstall it.

How do i select 16:9 on pc? The game only show 21:9 and another one that look super zoomed.

I’m definitely planning to get this on PS5 someday. The 40fps mode should be in every game. Too many JRPGs being thrown at us this year, though. I should have time when this goes on sale in November.

Sorry to hear that the people who paid for early access to play on day -3 have to start a new game. However, Ubisoft thanks you for paying to be a beta tester!

Yeah I’m digging it

The lockpicking mini game blows ass so I made it super easy. Also they really need to add in more checkpoints. 5 hours and no bugs or crashes yet. Also the OST is fucking fantastic.

I had one hard lock early in the game (XSX), but nothing since then. As of last night, cloud saves still weren't working.

But, this is by far the best Star Wars game since SWG shut down a decade ago (and I've played literally ever SW game ever made).

Sorry to hear that the people who paid for early access to play on day -3 have to start a new game. However, Ubisoft thanks you for paying to be a beta tester!

That was only on PS5. For some reason the PC and XSX versions had no problems getting the latest version at Day 1.

Define 'decent amount'? 50% of side quests? 30? Can't say anything hours wise without that.
