Switch 2 First Party Physical Game Prices: €90/$80 for Mario Kart and €80/$70 for Donkey Kong

Nintendo games probably cost less than half to make vs a current gen game and never go on sale.

The more I think about this....this is actually hilarious.

Nintendo ushering high price gaming that ea is salivating in the corner hoping die hard fans bite and normalize it. My switch just sits there and was very disappointed so I think I'll bow out of anything nintendo. The only reason I bought it is to game with gf but I'll just buy her a steam deck and it will have more games she will be interesting in playing.

Expect subscription services like Game Pass to get a lot more popular in the coming years, if other publishers follow suite. Then again they might increase the prices on that too, because why not?

I'm not saying that those prices are right (even though it's understandable after 30 years of no increases in prices while there's inflation for everything else). I'm not saying that it's the prices of 100% of Sony's 1st party since PS5 day one, and it didn't seem to bother that much people.

And for the "good deals" I didn't feel like that, so I checked, and for exemple Forbidden West has been at its best at 40€, same for GoW Ragnarok and GT7. I wouldn't call that acceptable good deals for quite old games.
Whatever you are smoking... It's too much. PS games are 70 bucks not 80 and certainly not 90, and Horizon and Gow even already rotated through ps+.......

They'll get away with it because gamers can't help themselves. This is a test run. If Mario Kart doesn't hit their desired numbers they'll lower the prices. But it will.

Then if they go ok people will pay $80 for Mario Kart let's see if they pay $90 for Zelda. And on and on it goes. If you want it to stop you gotta do it now. But a fruitless request in my estimation.

I guess Nintendo figures that if people really want physical games they'll pay more to get them. This must be a way to push people toward digital adoption. I wonder if the Switch piracy had any input into this decision?

Holy fuck at Nintendo's pricing on BOTW and TOTK, wtf?! I'd have to be some serious fucking remaster, because if all they do is bump up the resolution and LOD range then they can go get fucked.

Edit: HDR would be nice, but not 80 dollars nice. Especially if they don't offer an upgrade for owners of the Switch 1 versions.

This is what happens when everyone just allowed totk to be 70 lol. Im ok with the price hike i hope the price goes up more if people just act like nintendo hasnt just become more violent than sony ps3 lol.

That would be the ignorant/wishful thinking expectation

What these prices, including the early access ones (and the rumored $100 GTA VI price point) are implying is that services like Game Pass (AAA day-one releases) are simply an unviable wet dream.

People will wait (as they currently do) for a price drop.

Well, we had a pretty good run, Nintendo.
40 years of Christmas gifts and some amazing birthdays. A lifetime of joy, really...but you guys can go fuck yourselves with this horseshit. And here I thought the only way they could fuck up Switch 2 was to just not make a more powerful Switch...

I can deal with the $450 and even the $500 console, but $80/$90 games is too much especially for outdated technology and full priced old ports.

See now the whole "were not in the tech race" thing goes out the window lol im fine with them not having ray tracing when their games are $60 but if youre gonna charge $80-90 ? lol yeah i want ray tracing. Gtfoh. Hard pass.

They are the first company to release an $80 game....and the first company to release a $90 game (on outdated tech).
Think Barack Obama GIF by The Democrats

If anything these games should be cheaper as they don't cost as much money (or time) to develop.

If GTA VI launches at normal retail pricing....Kirby will be more expensive to buy than GTA VI. Lol.

This is the most Nintendo thing they've ever done, imo.

It has DLSS. Stop spreading misinformation
Im not sure about.

I believe DF said they didn't see any evidence of DLSS in their recent video.

Its not solid confirmation either way, but it doesn't appear to be using DLSS as of right now.

The game cards don't even have the actual copy of the game, it's just an authentication token, you still have to download it.

Stop spreading this misinformation. From what we've seen, most games will still have their data on the card, the only ones confirmed to use those game-key cards so far are Street Fighter 6 and Bravely Default.

Also, while it's still bullshit, empty boxes with only a download code have existed for years, on all 3 manufacturers' consoles. At least this time you may be able to actually resell the game.

90 eur for GTA 6 would probably be fine. But 90 eur for a fucking Mario Kart? Go fuck yourselves, Nintendo.
Why would 90 euro be fine for GTA 6 but not for a "fucking Mario Kart"? So you don't mind the price tag itself, you just mind what games are priced at it? You sound like a literal child. 💀

If I understood correctly all "switch 2 version" of previous titles can be just bought as an upgrade if you already have the original game

MK8D sold so well they think they can get away with it.

Also idiots buying shit like Nintendo cardboard, the fucking alarm clock, and various other trash from them and they finally realized that their core base are brainless sheep who will buy anything.

Watch that paid tech demo/instruction guide become a million plus seller. SMH.

Nintendo diehards and socials media personalities are to blame for this. Nintendo is just seeing the landscape for what it is.

Prediction:
The next Smash Bros will be $90 minimum.

The MKW bundle will sell gang busters since Nintendo users are similar to Apple ones

But since the bundle is limited, it will be interesting to see what happens when it runs out.

Nintendo first party games sell closer to 50% physical but lower than it.

Illiteracy is a scourge and I can't hold it against you. That being said, since the beginning of my posts I have made it clear that I am only talking about prices in Europe, and therefore in Europe the digital prices have been €79.99 since day one.

And I don't see the link with those games being sometimes included in a sub service, we're talking about digital/retail games prices, let's not compare tomatoes with oranges. :(

I am not even defending Nintendo, yes a +10€ rise is shit and yes I would prefer it doesn't happen, I just try to put all that into perspective.

You are a literal child if you don't understand what value for money means. Get off your high horse.

"but but i specifically meant buying from my grandfather`s half deaf mother in West Hampington in a specific shop I explicitely mentioned, during a full moon night while wearing a dress and singing sweet home abracadabra! Just put things into perspective duuude"

Incredible bullshit apologism with your goal post moving with every posting like some kindergarden kid.
Grow up...
Nintendo has just priced their 1st party point of entry 10 respectively 20 (if you actually want resale value) bucks higher than Sony despite massively lower development budgets, and that is all there is to it.

Enlighten me, what does value entail exactly? Bang for buck? Most people that play Mario Kart don't do so for a mere few hours, but hundreds - and some even thousands - of hours over the span of a generation (or two, in MK8's case).
The average Mario Kart player puts in more hours in Mario Kart than the average GTA player does in GTA. So by your logic, Mario Kart has more "value" than GTA, right?

Or did you just mean GTA good Mario Kart bad? :messenger_crying::messenger_crying:

This is only for specific games that say so on the box. The above explanation of game-key cards was taken from Nintendo's page without surrounding context.

The truth is Nintendo can get away with it for Mario and Zelda titles.

If Ubisoft try to sell their slop for 90 EUR then good luck with that.

Just because you like smearing shit in your face for thousands of hours doesn't mean it's objectively better than spending tens of hours on something that is actually novel and quality.

Digital should always be cheaper, but physical increasing by $30 from Switch 1 is crazy.

Instead of slowly raising prices, they performed a hidden price drop by holding the line at $60 the entire gen. $60 in 2017 is $80 now adjusted...basically TOTK launched for under sixty 2017 dollars while every other game was discounted.

But despite the actual value of the dollar, it's not good because it's jarring and nobody has the money.

People will find the money or spend money they don't have because fun Nintendo games, but they will need promos or sales to near the same sales level as some Switch 1 titles.

So this comes down to you personally like GTA more than MK?

It's all subjective, I mean I own PS5 but have zero interest getting GTA 6 because I don't enjoy it and more than happy pay for MKWorld…..it just different taste or do you believe people only should like the game you like?

Of course it's subjective. I haven't said that people should only play games I like. But there is no moment for me where I'd get more quality time out of a 80 dollar Mario Kart than a 80 dollar GTA.

And that other guy got really butt hurt over somebody else not liking his precious Mario Kart.

Maybe not for you but for people who enjoy MK absolutely can….i put unhealthy amount of time on MK8 because I enjoyed a lot and entirely skipped GTA5.

So based on my taste I MUCH rather pay $80 for MKWorld over GTA6 no question.
