Switch 2 First Party Physical Game Prices: €90/$80 for Mario Kart and €80/$70 for Donkey Kong

hope S2 games bomb at €80-90, else it will set a bad trembles in our gaming world....Sony MS Steam will follow rapidly!

I would hope not for the remainder of this gen, but next gen 100% game prices are getting raised universally.

They have the perfect excuse now, Sony can say "muh Pro console push more graphics = more expensive to develop" and MS can say the same thing with whatever they're doing next, wether is a superPCMR Xbox branded system or a new hybrid device

Gaming is fucked, people will pay whatever for Nintendo HW + games and everyone else not into it will get dragged to this new pricing 🤦‍♂️

Even with cart production costing significantly more than Blu-ray disks? (Not excusing Nintendo btw)

Cracking Up Lol GIF
pretty much this

Think the most I have paid for a "new" game was KCD2 at like $42 just after it launched

Add 10 euro more and you can get a good used switch lite , a Nintendo switch by itself
What a fucking joke

The praise I'm seeing for Nintendo after this event has once again affirmed to me that the internet is not real.

80-90 dollar physical games and a console weaker in many ways than the ps4... for 450 dollars? You can tell that Nintendo is taking the piss because this thing is 330 in Japan, where they need it to sell from day 1.

This is beyond the pale for pricing and the internet should come for Nintendo way harder than it came for sony on the PS5 Pro, where the pricing actually made sense...
I agree the price is too high, but again what's the point on comparing it to a home device?

It's part home console…

There will be people who never play it undocked.

They're really hoping that FOMO in the west kicks in but aren't relying on that in Japan.

The home part is a fucking charging stand.
The hardware is all on the portable, which limits form factor, materials... Also Come with a screen, speaker, microphone... It's a pointless comparison, at parity of price, you will always get more with a full home console.

You can also get a much better desktop pc for the price of a steam deck

You can buy pc handheld for close to that price but pricing of the console isn't the problem it's the insane game pricing.

I love Nintendo and always have. But I won't pay that price for a game, go get fucked. Nintendo thinks their pre-release PS3 Sony at the moment

People willing pay that price for broken, unfinished games. Nintendo always releases high quality, complete games at launch. You get what you pay for.

For the console I think it's fine, but for the games... There's a chance that will have backlash for sure

Yes you do, the deck outputs at 800p,that's why you can run recent games decently.
If you limit a desktop pc to that resolution, you don't need much hardware at all.
Come on now, playing modern games on a $350 PC isn't feasible. Not saying you can't get some stuff to run but your eyeballs would divorce you.

Orange to apples...
1. You get a resellable PHYSICAL version for that price with Sony.
2. Usually some retailers offer said physical version for ~70€ or even less day one. You´re not getting that in Nintendo`s shop, guaranteed.
3. With Sony we´re talking blockbuster budget monster games vs...whatever Nintendo is offering here.
The digital versions are also 79,90€ on PS5, I was talking only about digital.

This, and it's all fucking Sony and Microsoft fault. Soon when your mom and dad walk into that shit last Target left in town the ONLY console they will see is Switch 2. How fucking dumb can you be?
Which Sony first party title has been digital only this gen? This isn't a group project. Microsoft on the other hand has several titles that aren't getting a physical release on their platform including Avowed and South of Midnight. They are really the sole reason why digital is dying, yet it seems hard for some of you to admit that.

Damn man....I was stoked as fuck too.

I think I'm actually out. Kinda heartbreaking, not gonna lie, but 80 bucks a game is tough to swallow. I mean, I refuse to pay 70, won't do it, now 80?

This went from day one to, "maybe at some point down the road I'll have more money or something."
Great job Ninty.

Hoo boy, there goes console/AAA game prices. If you think everyone else won't be following Nintendo's lead, guess again.

I'll just stick to paying a few bucks for my PC games. This hobby ain't that important.

Add me to the list of people whose interest evaporated as soon as the prices were revealed. MK looks like fun, but if £75 is the new standard for the big first-party games, it'll be a fair while before I'm onboard.

So, clear this up for me. Are the physical just key cards and no game on cart?

That would mean no trading in for credit, and everything is subject to online DRM.

Yes, but we don't know how many or which games will be on those "physical key cards" instead of actual game cards containing the whole data. From the game cover shown we can assume at least M ario Kart and Donkey Kong are not key cards, though.
