Switch 2 upgrades look worse than Wii U emulation upscaling

I think the Switch 2 is a good console and that it will have a successful future. But these upgrades are a joke, and charging any money for them is an even bigger joke. It should be a complete freebie.

PC games receive much bigger upgrades and they many times make them free. Witcher Enhanced Edition, Bioshock Collection Remastered…

I had to pay 10 dollars on PS5 to upgrade my Lost Legacy collection today.

Do you think PS5 is the same as Switch 2 when it comes to charging for upgrades? Because it seems the same...

It's only 10 dollars. I don't expect people to work for free.

I'm just mad that not every game has it. Make every game upgradable for 10 dollars and I'd upgrade my entire library. That would cost me like 1000 dollars but also would be money I'd likely be happy to pay in most cases. Specifically XBCX, Luigi's Mansion, and the most recent Kibry. This is a nothingburger as is the cost of the Switch 2 machine itself. The only cost issue with Nintendo is them charging an extra 10 bucks for the new Mario Kart and not having enough games ready at launch. I honestly think MK is a special case since the last game is one of the most popular games of all time and still sells at full price above most new games today....but also they should have made that clearer during the pricing announcement.

That first picture is bullshit or doesn't represent the upgrade. I saw uncompressed footage and it looked very beautiful. Sharp and detailed with a lot of popping colors. It was a night and day difference compared to OG Switch. It was not that blurry as that BS picture you provided.

Welcome to Gaming

You can get a sub $500 console with decent performance for the price and then get assfucked with expensive games, paid multiplayer, paid .ini file updates next gen upgrades, etc.
Or you can get a PC where you get assfucked up front with insane hardware prices with MSRPs that are basically a myth (at lest for GPUs), but then you gain access to cheaper games, free multiplayer, games that automatically run better when you upgrade your hardware, etc.

The upgrade is honestly fine, you're going to get good scaling with good anti-aliasing with DLSS...it's just that they charge for it.

PS5 and XSX are doing this for free with pretty much every game. I never asked for a mobile app add-on either.

No real difference. It’s just a higher resolution and framerate. Big whoop. Nothing that warrants charging extra. If this was a PC game you’d just bump up the settings yourself.

Here it is running on PC in 8K with Ray Tracing:

I don't see anything wrong with a $10 upgrade fee, it clearly looks better than the OG Switch (though kinda looks washed out).
Games should be using dynamic res though, that way the upgrade could be free.

Midrange PC gaming is still worth it. You can get many years out of it with good capabilities.

Can't play that on the shitter nor the train unfortunately. And no before you say it, I don't want a handheld PC. Not the current offerings anyway.

Yeah, probably, but after pirating for years when I was younger (thus dropping games due to emulation issues) and current emulators shader compilation stutters, I rather play on original hardware. Same applies to NSO emulators.

Also, I'm glad Nintendo isn't making changes beyond IQ and performance, I don't like "visual enhancements" to games that modify the art direction.

I guess another thread about “why not buy PC instead of consoles?”

My answer is still the same……no thank you.

It’s more to do with it being no real effort being put into besides so garbage map that no one will use. Well besides the seven people here trying to defend it. It’s a plain cash grab, the more this is ok the more likely you’re going to pay for other games and next gen too etc.

I dunno man, if you have time to kick back and play a full blown game while on the toilet… sounds like you should probably get that checked out.

For me personally I’m only doing upgrades for games that gives me significant content like…

That actually looks awesome.

Whatever differences come to Switch 2, people will get used to them in 30minutes. PC looks transformative.

You're forgetting a key part of the PC multiplayer experience. Cheaters.
