The Nintendo Switch 2 | Officially Announced (Switch 2 Direct Scheduled for April 2nd)

It still kinda feels like the only thing that's saving this and not making it another Wii U situation is the name. Switch 2 at least tells people it's an upgrade, but the reveal itself...I could see a lot of the casuals thinking it's just another Switch, and thinking why would they need another one. Nothing about the reveal shows that it's really an upgrade, just a different design.

Bad reveal trailer.
Nintendo had the chance to capitalize on the hype, but instead showed almost nothing different about this new console, didn't show how the new gimmick works, and presented a Mario Kart 9 that was visually very similar to its predecessor from 10 years ago.
They showed no gimmick because there is no gimmick, which is why the decision to show such an ancient looking Mario Kart makes this the worst reveal of all time easily.

I don't care if someone calls it cheap, lazy, boring, nothing new, the same etc.

Shit, that is what they need right now.

I don't think Wii or Wii U helped as much as people think and I believe that entire thing likely hurt the company and they should continue down this more conservative path and I felt years ago that even call it Switch 2 as a direct thing and just doing the same thing was the way to go here vs wild brand new idea or something.

They need fucking consistency and Wii U showed that people are fucking tired of gimmicks, they just want solid hardware and solid support.

When PS6 is shown, its a day 1 for many of us PS fans, I get many might be like "oh but the controller is the same, WOW it just plugs into a tv" annnnnnd that is why we fucking trust them every gen.

Switch 2 is a easy day 1 and I personally hope they continue this path. I'm more on board with a day 1 purchase with this reveal. I'd rather have a solid standard with the company so they can actually build long term trust with fans and 3rd party, then some stupid ass gimmick, save that shit for some optional add on.
The gaming industry needs both Sony and Nintendo to be strong. Both are OG and both have there own innovations not just graphics but also hardware functions.

I enjoyed it. I like that weird jump cuts they do in the trailer.

It seems like it'll be coming out in April-May, which is a good time to prepare it for the holidays.

MKX at launch is great, hope it has a more robust single player than ever.

And it's on my Bday, and I love Nintendo, so yey. I'm happy.

Late October Surprise
For me, I was happy with the dual sense controller for ps5 and the PSVR2 functions.

My main takeaway from that trailer is that Nintendo is serious about their fiduciary duty to their shareholders and they promised their shareholders a reveal before the end of March, so they're going to deliver on that promise, even if it means showing us as little as humanly possible.

Edit: This also explains why the trailer basically ended by saying "the Switch 2 is backwards compatible, so don't stop buying Switch 1 software in the meantime."

When those joycons were skirting on the surface (the :messenger_grinning:); were they showing off the mouse pointer ability of them? Why would they be sliding like that otherwise?
I think when they showed the joycon moving it was also a hint that it's that new Joystick.

I can say that they should've shown an unknown game with it, because MKX looks very similar to MK8. But still, it says 2.

I don't understand why this thing needs to exist, the specs are not revolutionary so why even bother. Its more of a switch 1.5 if even that. I think it will flop just like the Wii-U. The gimmick of having a handheld console you can dock and play on your tv has been played out.
Even fortnite runs at 30 fps and looks horrible on the switch. They needed an upgrade. PS4/PS4 Pro is great. Now they'll get almost every 3rd party.
A Nintendo handheld console with Pokemon, etc will never be played out. Unlike the wii U it's going to be the only option for Nintendo games, not having to compete with the 3ds.

Writes a lot, says very little
For me the only game that properly utilizes it is astro bot. Most games i turn those off cause i dont need to be fighting the trigger when playing dead space or cod

I love it in Astrobot titles and Dead Space remake (I don't play much of the COD series theses days)

I like it in most titles and I didn't know it could be turned off lol
I really wish Nintendo would include the pro controller for those of us who don't want to destroy our hands with those tiny joycons.

I just need it to be them gamecube classic style ones and I'm fine.

A couple weeks back someone made a release month prediction thread and I voted August, I’m sticking with it. I can’t imagine this thing coming out any sooner than that. I wish it was releasing today though lol

Good luck explaining the customers there is a significant difference with the current Switch, especially if the games look exactly the same.

We are off to a great start with this trailer that does a great job at showing that there isn't any in terms of the console itself.

Those long posts don't cover that red neck boy
There was a rumor that the Switch 2 would release in May or June.

Seeing as how these playtest events go beyond these dates its kind of safe to say it won''t launch end of the year.

Other than that, i like the all-black design. Backwards compat is also great, hopefully with auto-improvements as seen on other hardware. If that's the case, i may just bite it. Then i have a console from each manufacturer and each generation (X360, PS4 Pro, and then thus Switch 2)

Yeah, everyone thinks Nintendo is infallible but this isn’t an inspired console from them

I don’t know why their (casual) consumer base will feel the need to upgrade

Everything is super safe and that MK9 footage just isn’t doing it
You know nothing about what the console can do and you know nothing about any games coming.

How about you just wait for the Direct before acting all negative again?

This system might run a lot of games the first Switch could not like say Call of Duty

Plus MS is supposedly bringing a lot of their other games over even if Flight Sim and Forza looks like this

The biggest significant difference will be the exclusives that people won't be able to play on switch 1.. And massive third party support that switch 1 also won't be getting.

But just the 2 is doing a lot. People buy the newest IPhone without significant difference because it's the I phone 16 or whatever.. Not I phone u.
