Yeah, everyone thinks Nintendo is infallible but this isn’t an inspired console from them

I don’t know why their (casual) consumer base will feel the need to upgrade

Everything is super safe and that MK9 footage just isn’t doing it
They'll upgrade because they'll be able to play games on Switch 2 they can't play on Switch 1.

Some first party games will cross gen, others won't be. They'll move from old hardware to new hardware like every other gen, just slower.
FUKKK!!

He was right....(sigh) and here I thought we'd get out of this era of listening to insiders like they're the pope during the Dark Ages. Guess for most the blind faith will continue.

Still need to watch the trailer; quite excited.
If he was right, surely it wasn't blind faith?
That reveal sucked big time, I do wonder what Nintendo's strategy in all of this is. I honestly don't think they have a good one, or know too well themselves. I honestly think Nintendo is scared shitless, and rightfully so. Look at Sony. The PS4 was immensly successfull and the PS5 is doing fine - but that took a lot of effort from sony. It wasn't exactly like this win was guranateed to them. It took a lot of Microsoft fumbling and a lot of Sony building up IPs and stuff to get into this position.

What I'm saying is, selling a new system in this day and age is hard. Now they're waiting till April to announce more? So that's like a summer or fall or maybe even christmas release? Nintendo is not ready yet at all for this, clearly, which is kinda laughable if you think about it. They've been paralyzed out of fear of fucking this up.

Again, that reveal was awful, but obviously in terms of broader marketing this reveal wasn't even the start for Nintendo, it basically felt more like a way to make the internet shut up (and I'm kinda grateful for that in a way). It's going to be interesting what they cook up until April. They need STRONG STRONG STRONG marketing and games, because as of now, they honestly have pretty much nothing and I'm not sure how well this is gonna play out.
It's a similar strategy to Switch, PS5 and Xbox Series am. Teaser video followed by a showcase, then some hands on events just before launch.
I don't understand why this thing needs to exist, the specs are not revolutionary so why even bother. Its more of a switch 1.5 if even that. I think it will flop just like the Wii-U. The gimmick of having a handheld console you can dock and play on your tv has been played out.
It exists for the same reason GameBoy Advance and PS5 exist. Iterative successor to a successful platform.

Off topic, I'm just disappointed that Nintendo wasted the Bayonetta franchise. I hope for it's comeback.
I think the problem rather lies with Platinum Games. It really seems that over the last years, there were significant internal problems present in that company. So much so that most of the key people have jumped ship. Maybe Nintendo can give Bayonetta to Clovers.

And massive third party support that switch 1 also won't be getting.
Massive third party support ? Is it currently massive on Switch 1 ? Third parties want to sell as many games as possible, it is not a necessity for them to drive console sales, so Switch 1 will remain a valid platform for a long time. We are still getting PS4 and even Xbox One games to this date from third parties.

Third parties will be there at launch to push a couple long sellers, but don't expect everything being Switch 2 exclusive from them, it won't be the case.

After the PS5 Pro and now this, we're in the era of disappointing console hardware. On one hand I shouldnt complain too much because I wanted thr hybrid concept to continue, but jesus that is one similar ass looking system ..

They mention backwards compatibility which is fantastic but no mention of 4k gaming concerns me and no mention of an Oled screen either. This is too safe for Nintendo. I was hoping to see something innovative.

Maybe

I know I use my son often here but he mainly plays on Xbox with some Switch gaming and I asked if he is upgrading and he said 100% especially if some MS games make their way onto the S2
My kids stopped playing Switch because Fortnite is laggy as fuck on it now. I show them Switch 2 with a better Fortnite and all those MS games they will be in without a second thought. I'll have four Switch 2s in my house by the end of the year.

So now the question is..

If i buy Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition on Switch 1
Will there be an upgrade path to Switch 2 version. Or won't there be a Switch 2 version. Or will it be like Xbox Series where it auto updated free of charge aka smart delivery.

I think a lot of people will upgrade if people can play games like Fortnite much better on it, not to mention the next Call of Duty

I'll be curious to see the specs I mean looks wise it looks like a bigger switch. It would be cool if they show something like Tears of the Kingdom but like upscaled or visually cleaner looking if that is possible. It's like you see alot of these PC mods of their older titles and they looks so good it would be great to see that on a more powerful hardware.

I really hope they at least drip feed some information and confirm stuff like this leading up to the April event.

Some first party games will cross gen, plenty of others womt. They'll be a point where Pokémon and Animal Crossing games can't be played on Switch 1.

You don't know anything about the system nor what games it will run. But sure, act all negative. Thanks for your contribution.

I can see that there's nothing major new or different. Nothing like a stylus or dual screens.

Anyway, I said I'll pre-order one anyway.
That's probably more than you'll do.

Edit: I see you've made also a copy of the same most to James Sawyer Ford James Sawyer Ford . It seems we have a awoken a Nintendo fanboy.

What a weird comments to make. I'm day 1 and am always day 1 for Nintendo hardware.

Nintendo haven't announced anything about hard and software and here you are claiming you don't see anything new or different. NO SHIT.

Probably releasing at the end of 2025 if they aren't giving a date yet. Probably Q4 2025. Unless they are pushing for Summer. Probably announced this earlier then intended because of rumors. Seems like they were planning on announcing this in April.

They announced it now so people can register for the in-person events. I don't think it's a response to the leaks.

It is one of the best action game ever. Well, I just hope for its comeback even if its not on Nintendo system.

3rd party games dont have to be exclusive to help the console. And be a clear difference from what the switch 1 isn't getting...

How valid will the switch be when it isn't getting the hot new games everyone is talking about from Nintendo and 3rd parties but switch 2 is. Look at how they supported their previous consoles after a new one released...they've never been valid for a long time after that lol.

Even the past couple years how many major Nintendo games has the switch gotten? 1?

My God. Most of you people here really don't deserve a new Nintendo system. Fucking F5ing this thread every minute for weeks on end and when time comes it's all negative vibes? Get a life.

You're a fanboy. You can’t take any criticism and don't even try countering it, rather tou deflect.

I don't understand. You switch the argument to first party games. We were talking about third party. Of course Nintendo will abandon the old console : it is in their best interest.
But this is not true for third parties : they simply want to tap the largest player base possible.

An interesting shift in strategy from Nintendo. They are going from betting the house every generation, to a PlayStation like generation model and branding. Which kinda makes sense, because they really nailed the product with the OG Switch.

Nintendo has a short history of incremental branding and consoles - Super NES / Super Famicom, Game Boy Color & Game Boy Advance. All instances, competition compelled Nintendo to blow everything up. PlayStation forced Nintendo to abandon the NES lineage, and PSP forced Nintendo’s to abandon the Game Boy. Wii U is an example of incremental branding, but blowing everything up in terms of product concept. I am still not sure what compelled them to blow everything up, but keep the branding.

Each time Nintendo has been wildly successful is when it has bet the house on a new concept and new brand. This has happened three times - Wii, DS and Switch. Their success in incremental branding and concept is pretty mixed, if not poor. But that is not to say it couldn’t happen - Sony has made it work for three decades. Maybe when the concept is exactly right, and games are there, it works.

The reveal trailer - well, aside of beautiful 3D rendering, there is not really much to say. It looks the same, we can scrutinise the smaller details like magnets, mouse functionality, and an extra button, screen bezels. But it’s a night and day to the OG Switch reveal trailer, which bursted with gaming joy and showed how much fun we will have with the new revolutionary console. This one just screams - ‘Please understand.’

You can't die before your death
Gba could play gbc and gb, wii could play gamecube, wii u could play wii. The 3ds could play ds. They don't do bc when there is a massive format change.
Series consoles can play original Xbox games. The PS5 is compatible with most PS4 games and includes remasters and digital versions of older titles. Again, Nintendo is by far the worst when it comes to BC compared to Xbox and PS.

I was talking about both.
I'm not saying the switch 1 won't have ANY 3rd parties...
But it doesn't even have call of duty, elden ring, GTA 5, BG3, CFB 25 just to name a couple of the top sellers. Switch 2 is gonna get nearly everything that's coming out. It's gonna be a big difference that Nintendo hasn't experienced in forever.
And That's not to mention that ports like overwatch and apex run bad on switch 1 to the point that it's unplayable to me.
