The Nintendo Switch 2 | Officially Announced (Switch 2 Direct Scheduled for April 2nd)

Switch 2 is gonna get nearly everything that's coming out. It's gonna be a big difference that Nintendo hasn't experienced in forever.
Doubt it. It will get a few big third parties the first couple years, that will run meh-ish/not great, and will then be abandoned as PS4 will be abandoned itself by third parties. It will be the exact same situation as Wii U and Switch.

They'll upgrade because they'll be able to play games on Switch 2 they can't play on Switch 1.

Some first party games will cross gen, plenty of others womt. They'll be a point where Pokémon and Animal Crossing games can't be played on Switch 1.

If he was right, surely it wasn't blind faith?

It's a similar strategy to Switch, PS5 and Xbox Series am. Teaser video followed by a showcase, then some hands on events just before launch.

It exists for the same reason GameBoy Advance and PS5 exist. Iterative successor to a successful platform.
agree except I doubt 1st party will be cross gen. I wouldn't bet against MP4 being an exception. but I wouldn't bet the other way either.

Now to rely on leakers and 3rd party to tell me and show me how much better and what games this thing will have because
NINTENDO TOLD ME NOTHING OTHER THAN MARIOKART LOOKS EXACTLY THE SAME.
and april 2nd is aloooooong time from now. I need to stop thinking about the S2.

Nintendo now has many months needing to be filled with more Switch 1 games so WIND WAKER HD on switch 1 finally is what I’m thinking which would be all I need!

Good point. Lots of HD remaster might still be on the way for Switch 1. Metroid Prime 2 and 3, Wind Waker, Twilight Princess all come to mind.

Series consoles can play original Xbox games. The PS5 is compatible with most PS4 games and includes remasters and digital versions of older titles. Again, Nintendo is by far the worst when it comes to BC compared to Xbox and PS.
Names 2 consoles, nIntenDo iS WorsT.

Can you play metal gear solid 4 on a ps5? Last I checked I can't play any of my ps3 discs on either ps4 or ps5.
Whenever nintendo has a line of consoles it has bc. They dropped it from wii u to switch due to different format and architecture. They have more bc compatible consoles than the other two.

Hell you can't play ps5 discs on the ps5 pro without shelling out more for a disc drive.

So is the IR sensor thing at the bottom of the right Switch 1 Joy Con gone now?

You can’t play ps5 discs on a ps5 digital console? Wow, shocking.

The switch never had even 1 CoD( extremely underpowered). The Wii U barely had any 3rd parties( unpopular system, devs didn't want to support it). The switch 2 won't have either problem. There have been constant credible rumors that this thing is going to be HEAVILY supported. It's going to get many games that the PS4 is not getting.

I really, really hope older games get some kind of visual upgrade with the Switch 2. It's Nintendo so I don't expect potential patches to be fully free, like Xbox did do for existing games on XSX, but at least something please for the two open world Zelda games.

You do know that Nintendo isn't the only one developing games for Switch right?
how many third party games tout themselves like GT and forza though? The biggest non-nintendo racing games on switch are games like sonic, crash, nascar need for speed and atv games

I consider most of these more like arcade games than simulators

They aren't on Switch because of the controls and graphical capabilities. Forza could come to Switch but not without analoge triggers. Excluding options to play games is dumb.

Surprised the Switch 2 cartridges don't have the little L tab to prevent sticking them in the OG Switch. Curious how this will work. Perhaps they to require Switch 2 cartridges to come with Switch 1 versions? That might let them charge more and simplify distribution.
Edit: nm, they're showing that Switch 1 games work on Switch 2. New ones probably have the tab.

I don't think we've seen Switch 2 cartridges yet

I hope I'm wrong but I fully expect OG Switch games to run as-is on Switch 2 and if some games are meant to run better they will release an enhanced edition at full price. Anyway it's day one for me for future first party games.

oh theres a new way to put your controllers on and the docks the same

Actually, they didn't show the dock. I mean, they did show the front of the dock but unless the back of the dock is paper thin they are hiding it from this trailer. The other side must be pretty voluminous otherwise it would tip over if this is really how it looks from this side.

I hope Nintendo has a good way of providing a S2 to anyone who really wants one. Just let me preorder one and update me on the process of it being built and sent to me so I can avoid the scalpers. I have two pairs of custom Nikes from their website just because you can create and follow your shoes being made and shipped out.

A whole year? That’s literally just starting….
Thats not what literally means, but semantics aside we all know going forward xbox games are going to be multiplat. If they had plans to launch forza strictly on ps, we likely would've learned that by now.

The last forza can run on the rog ally as a system, theres no reason a switch 2 cant run that on a graphical level and i serious doubt the joycons not having analogue would prevent them from porting

It would just be better to use a pro controller

I really wish Nintendo would include the pro controller for those of us who don't want to destroy our hands with those tiny joycons.

It's probably going to stress test Nintendo to price this thing with tariffs. Don't force people to buy an extra controller they may or may not be able to afford day one, especially with new, larger Joycon and the grip attachment.

Of course, absolutely have it on the shelf available for purchase.

It would be fantastic if old peripherals are supported but I'm not holding my breath. If so I'm not buying any new controllers for a hot minute.

Bet that third party developers(and likely Nintendo) will be making "mouse" joy con "shells".

Basically a "shell" that is shaped like this one: (Red Dragon gaming mouse shown below) that you
plug the joy con into.

Reminds me of what Nintendo and third parties did with Wii peripherals:

After the PS5 Pro and now this, we're in the era of disappointing console hardware. On one hand I shouldnt complain too much because I wanted thr hybrid concept to continue, but jesus that is one similar ass looking system ..

They mention backwards compatibility which is fantastic but no mention of 4k gaming concerns me and no mention of an Oled screen either. This is too safe for Nintendo. I was hoping to see something innovative.
If they are aiming for $300 with plenty of profit as with OG switch prob looking at 540p internal rendering with dlss to 1080p. They didnt pony up for analogue triggers why would they spend a cent on 4k functionality?

146 million Switch 1 is a huge market, seems like crossgen would be best for max profits for Nintendo, a couple years at least until switch 2 user base is significant?

Just having Grand Theft Auto portable will sell millions. Let alone backwards compatibility on the millions of switch owners games on a bigger screen with (hopefully) enhancements.

LCD means no HDR most likely or poor HDR support because it won't be important for devs, at least until OLED model comes out later.

The cost of patching the game so that it looks better once the oled gets released is higher when you consider they might be already working on a different game and going back to old code and data is always a chore.

No, Nintendo will drive HW sales with exclusives like they always have. Talk about leaving money on the table when your biggest game can no longer drive new hardware sales, why would any family with kids buy a Switch 2 when they can just get the new Mario Kart on their existing system?

I'm getting strong Wii U vibes from the spirit I know they'll have some ports and other games with slightly better graphics to announce but this was really underwhelming especially when a lot of it we already knew release. And I know people are going to stop the biscuit up with Nintendo juice but most of us aren't Nintendo Loyalists and there is so much more competition now.

I've caught up with what I can find right now other than the Mario kart stuff and this was no Grand slam and I wouldn't even anticipate the software being anything extravagant unless somehow you are one of the few people that plays only on Nintendo as of other Superior platforms don't exist.

Forget about the politics and how stupid Nintendo treats their legacy software and preservation, this was a ground ball to first base out.

That's what I'm sad about, they probably won't bother patching them later. So for the next few years Switch games may not even have HDR implemented. I hope this is not the case.
