They haven’t seen a game running at 4K 60fps in Nintendo history.
This hits the nail right on the head. The fact that a portable form factor from 2017 as tick as a slice of bread with a 720p screen doesn't run games at 4K is just embarassing.

There is no singular "graphics standard" for 2025 though; a vast range of different devices of all different power levels are used for gaming in 2025.

There is always a graphics standard every generation.

We use it all the time for games. Recent one being Monster Hunter Wilds which has been slated for its technical issues.

MP4 looks great on a PS3 level hardware and that’s about.

It does not look great by today’s standard of games.

Then you have people here having the audacity to say it looks better than PS4 and PS5 games. Take it easy.

"Today's standard of games" doesn't just mean AAA games on PS5 though. 2025 games includes games on Switch, games on mobile phones, games on tablets, simple indie games, etc.

This is a 2025 game for instance:

The majority of games on the market do not have advanced graphics.

Read the entire thread including the OP.

Firstly Metroid Prime is a AAA title.

Secondly, If some people are going to claim that MP4 is PS4 level graphics and better looking than PS4/PS5 games then it will be compared.

What else are we suppose to do?

It's not a AAA PS5/Xbox Series/PC game though, it's a game on an 8 year old portable device.

MP4 isn't PS4 graphics, but I only saw like one person claim that. It's equally silly to say it's PS3 or even PS2/Gamecube graphics.

They do. The fact that it may run at 60 fps vs a PS3 game running at 30 fps doesn't discount that fact. These 30 fps games are richer in detail than MP4
The PS3 games in question are 720p or less, use fewer and/or lower resolution textures, use older and simpler shaders, and often dip south of 30fps.

Don't get me wrong, the PS3 is one of my favourite consoles and I love games like Uncharted 2 and TLOU, they were mind-blowing stuff back in the day, but the Switch as a much newer device is just more capable hardware. Not massively so, as it's limited by having to run off a battery and fit in a tiny case, but it's still just a more performant box.

So it is PS4 level graphics?

Since it isn’t PS3 level as you claim.

What resolution do you think MP4 runs at natively?

The textures are not lower or fewer, they're actually richer, with much better effects in place like motion blur. The switch titles do not hold a candle to the best looking games of even the PS360 era. Killzone wipes the floor with MP4. So does Halo 4.

The bear of bad news
No, it's not PS4 or PS3 graphics.

The Switch sits in between the two in terms of capability, and Prime 4 reflects that, being of a higher technical standard than PS3 but below what PS4 is capable of.
aaannnnd nintendos better devs its all true my friends evens if some crud dev has hardware powers dont make graphics goord

Completely agreed, Nintendo should have anticipated this situation and just aim for 1FPS so comparisons on internet boards that consist of posting any kind of still screenshot that fits the intended POV could make some sense.

this should impress me ? even Dark Souls 3 look ages better than this, i agree with you that this thread has been nothing but a trash heap, you guys reach too much on this "MP4 looks like ps4 game", Nintendo fans cope are something else, geez.

Simply amazing. The amount of repeated buildings. The dark shadowing covering all their detail as a way to hide the terrible draw distance is mind-blowing.

Please continue to show your impressive Nintendo 64 games. Here, I'll help you.

It seems you love fog a lot.

Uncompresed, no AA, no AF.
The no AA is what pisses me off about Nintendo and the weak AF pisses me off about consoles in general.

I was playing Ninja Gaiden 2 Black on PS5 Pro the other day and the AF is garbage and that applies to so many games.

MP4 hasn't impressed me at all. People are gushing over it on YouTube and even Gaf and people wonder why Nintendo doesn't put more resources into better graphics?

I mean, I'm not sure there's really much more you can do graphically as far as a Switch 1 game goes, this is probably about as far as the hardware can be pushed at 60fps, it's an 8 year old portable device at the end of the day.

Switch can do nice looking games. This game just doesn’t look great - I’m sorry I don’t know how people are giving it a pass. Metroid Prime was a powerhouse when it came out looks-wise
Not only are p3ople giving it a pass they're singing it's graphical praises like crazy ..."im floored" "this is on Switch?" "Best looking Switch game" "Looks like a ps4 game" ....this is the level of integrity we're dealing with when it comes to Nintendo fans. I'm a Nintendo fan but I don't let my like of a company override my ability to be honest with myself. Nintendo has no need to ever try anymore with modern gaming audiences.

To think that forums such as this has not yet realized that graphics doesn't matter, at all for consumers. Xbox is putting out graphical showcase after graphical showcase and those games all sell less than low effort Wii ports on Switch like Donkey Kong Returns.
Are you new to gaming? VIDEOgames. Graphics have always mattered. I remember walking into Toys R Us as a boy in the late 80s and the sales clerk was urging me to get Castlevania because "the graphics are awesome!"

Guys like you crack me up telling other gamers how "wrong" they are to care about graphics. Get over it dude they've been important for over 40 years at this point

Graphics don't matter these days. They used to matter. I mean improvements were dramatic. I mean the resolution way back when was 30x30. Now...people are armed with magnifying glasses and a series of dramatically enlarged screenshots to show without a doubt that this game looks better than that game.

no they don't

noone in their right mind would ever claim that

just like noone with an IQ above 20 would ever say that
Ray traced lighting is superior to rasterized 100% of the time, all things being equal. Yes, even in static games. It's more accurate first of all and as every game is technically dynamic in nature as you move throughout the environment, light is bouncing more accurately between light sources and the character. There's less light leakage, better AO, less glowing etc

Am I wrong? Silent Hill 2 is noisy yes but that's a matter of hardware capability more than anything ...I can see the difference in accuracy for example between Silent Hill 2's lighting and Last of Us 2, where sometimes certain objects don't appear grounded in the environment. I'm open to being proven wrong but pretty sure RT benefits "static" games like SH2

That isn’t saying much. It looks incredible for a game on a 10 year old cellphone hardware console.

It looks shite by graphics standards for 2025.

graphics standards in 2025 is sub 1080p, constant framedrops, reconstruction artifacts, hair that only looks complete by adding TAA smear to it, low quality Lumen that tanks performance while constantly fizzling and smearing.

that's 2025 standards... and I'd love to go back 10 years when that wasn't the standard 😊
