I have it at 150% resolution scale (from 1080p), 8X MSAA, 8K shadow resolution, and it barely uses my gpu, I love old games lol.
It's no wonder this game lagged so bad on those old systems. It could have released in 2015 on PS4/XOne and it still wouldn't look out of date

It uses less ram than Steam, Edge, and Discord on my PC. Granted I have 64gb so its not like i'm starving for ram, but still..... impressive work. It's a 1.0 release and there's also minimal bugs even at 180hz.

I wish I had an OLED with HDR so I could get even better visuals on this, but the game looks gorgeous on my IPS enough

On topic: I don't love this game, but appreciate it, hoping for mods to make improvements to it. And stuff like this is always really cool. Sadly I don't have time to fool with it right now.

Completely, even the light color bounces look good, great art direction and still looks great today. With improved textures this would be quite amazing.
I honestly think this looks better than Sonic Frontiers which is much more recent.

Just sounds like it stole existing code and converted it to a different language, but surely that doesn't magically make it not piracy?
They're not distributing any code, that you have to provide yourself.
It's exactly the same as emulation as far as piracy concerns go.

And not so different under the hood, its not just conversion, it includes translating the virtual machine environment to make it all run.

I see, so it's just like playing your game on the pc instead of the Xbox? But how do you get the code from the 360 disc?

Game has been 60fps on Series B/C for a while and this was undoubtedly what it needed the most. More support and features is always good, but the experience there has been great. People had means to not be trapped with the base version for all these years.
It's still stuck at an internal 880x720 on those consoles iirc. Unleashed is one of the lowest res 360/PS3 games I can even think of, so the increase was also a necessary improvement.

Also, you need a modern xbox to access those versions...Enough said.

The IQ alone blows Sonic Frontiers out of the water. Frontiers already has the disadvantage by proxy of being a modern game with TAA 😛

Weren't Microsoft supposed to do something like this with their 360 games to make them PC compatible a few years ago? Seems like they forgot about it. Hopefully with this tool the Gears games get ported as the emulation from Xena wasn't that great last time I used it.

First Unleashed playthrough of the year complete.

Literally zero issues with the port. No bugs (at least ones that weren't in the OG), no graphical glitches, no stuttering and a fairly consistent 60fps throughout.

Couldn't ask for more. Big thanks to the recompilation team. Just like with Mania, the fans always come in clutch.

(And before you ask, I've beaten this game like 10 times. Finishing it in a day is nothing special for me)
That's cheaper than a PC.
Is it? You can run this game on a PC from 2012.

if youve got disk then go ham.

XenonRecomp is on git
I don't imagine it's as easy as that lol I heard about some people on discord trying to get it to work on Tony Hawk but there's some issues with that game apparently so it depends on the games and some might need specific tweaks.

About unleashed, I just arrived in mazuri and it looks so good, this lighting and image quality. Only thing I wish is that we could turn off the depth of field.

Unleashed, I believe, also had the largest budget of any modern Sonic game and it really shows. The art direction is drop-dead gorgeous for a 2008 and imo thats why it still holds up so well even vs Frontiers. Frontiers may be the more technically advanced game but the art direction is pretty dull.

this was made for a 0.24 TFLOPs GPU...
and people wonder why there are some disappointed with current gen games that are made for systems with 12 TFLOPs GPUs, 50 times the compute power...

engine bloat and shortcuts

I wonder how one would get into the recompiling scene? Is it insanely complicated with zero programming skills?
In the OP you find the github link to the source code, and probably google can find you some docs and then you are good to go.

But with zero programming skills it will be hard. We talk here about very low level, close to the metal, assembler code stuff. Of two different processors... You need to re-program the OS-Calls of the XBox360 to current Windows Calls.

Look at the source code, but do not expect to be able to help within minutes. When you are young and have endless time, you might succeed over time. My 15 year old me would have loved some project like this.

Someone explain this to me because

Just sounds like it stole existing code and converted it to a different language, but surely that doesn't magically make it not piracy? Me turning a movie into camcorder footage is still deemed theft.
Who's care. We are talking about 360 games, 20 years old games, They should be free on PC and not locked to a store and console that will inevitably be lost sooner or later.

However, next Maijin and the forsaken kingdom and PLEASE GIVE ME PGR4

Don't be ridiculous. Nothing before PS3/360 would benefit from this.
Eh I don't know, it would be pretty great for PS2 too.
Ton of games on PCSX2 still have some issues. Many are capped to 30 fps, most of them are stuck in 4:3 aspect ratio, several games lack some effects unless you make the blend accuracy to full which will make the game super slow, or if you select "software" mode which will render the game only in native resolution, which looks terrible, etc...
There are some hacks / patches to improve fps and aspect ratio in some games, but it's always hit or miss, it's not always perfect.

It wouldn't be as game changing as for 360 like here, but it still would be pretty great to have some ps2 games being turned into native PC apps. It would bring a lot more possibilities and freedom for modding too.

Mario 64 has heavily benefitted from getting a decomp, OOT as well

also, quite a few PS2 games really could use this like God of War
I'm also thinking of SSX3 which still has some issues with some lights, and the Harry Potter games on ps2, which were amazing, but are still far from perfect in emulation. Also for european gamers, like me (french), PAL games were slow AF, Harry Potter games for example run at... 25 fps. So if we want the french audio for nostalgia, we have to play at 25fps / 50hz, which really sucks. A recompiled project wouldn't have this issue.

In general, I also find PCSX2 not as smooth as Dolphin for example, PCSX2 always had some stuttering, even when it holds 60 fps, it doesn't always feel very smooth.

You'll be glad to Know that the Jack and Daxter games have native PC ports.

Yes I said it before, this game looks ridiculous.

Many of those PS360 games look extremely good, held back by its hardware not being able to run all that eye candy at decent framerates and resolutions. Many of those games were too ambitious for it, and with recompiling it shows. Lift the veil and you get this.

PGR4 would probably give some current-gen racing games a run for its money. Or what about Splinter Cell: Blacklist, Lost Odyssey, Driver: SF? I mean Driver still looks decent on PS3, I fired it up not too long ago. Imagine that at 4k/120 or something.

Driver SF has a PC port tho

I would argue the same for PS2 games- mostly in resolution rather than FPS of course but many of those look fantastic rendered at 1080/1440p.
Jak and Daxter via OpenGOAL is a big one, and I can't wait for Ratchet and Clank if that's a possibility
