As a newcomer to anime, and as someone who really hasn't dabbled in manga...at all, really, how the hell does this happen? How do you completely leave out the ending of the series?
Berserk is going to hit you like a ton of bricks.
Time, budget, catching up, etc. There are a lot of reasons. Sometimes, a show doesn't get good enough ratings to get another season. This is something that happened with shows like Deadman Wonderland and, I think, D.Gray Man. Sometimes, a show catches up to the manga and they don't want to write filler or really can't fit it into the series. This is what happened to the original HxH. There are quite a few reasons, but those are probably the most common.

I guess it depends on time and budgets.
For example you have two Full Metal Alchemist animes. The first one was airing before the manga was finished and thus has an alternate ending. The second anime follows the manga till its end.
Hmm, yeah I guess that sounds reasonable enough. But if Mirai Nikki is 26 episodes long, that seems like it would be enough time to allot for properly putting in the ending, unless the manga is very long, which it may be.

I thought for Mirai Nikki they didnt cover the last 11 pages of the entire manga. Probably a ploy to use for whatever future project they had in mind and teased at the end of the final episode.

I have no idea. It's dumb because they adapted the final chapter but removed the ending and replaced it with a vague tease of a new project that wouldn't happen because it's just a few pages lol. They shuffled the order of presentation to make it work too.

Unless i'm wrong , this didn't do well in sales, right ?
Well i finally took time to watch the end of this anime ..
The Vilain was underwelming to the least .he was playing the "i'm stronger than you and you should despair" card but it failed ..add to the injury that it's revealed only seconds after his death that he was a reject , a failed product and so on , another cliché ..
Still after such a break seeing that overpowered hero in action wasn't that bad ,really ..
hagure yuusha is not a bad anime , but it does have many flaws..seeing this as a aborted product is EVEN more disapointing .

Well i finally took time to watch the end of this anime ..
The MC is still cheat and haxxor mode ... but for some reason , the more cheated characters are still discussing whenever they shoud build, fight, destroy or control ..No this isn't mass effect 3 ending ..but how i summarize the plot they tried to tell in the last episode. It's really a total shame , really that it ends like this because it would have been cool to see the new formed party back in the fantasy world wrecking havoc and kicking ass.
God mode + plot armor activated.

D.Gray-man was dangerously close to the manga at the end of its fourth season. I can't speak for its popularity, but its proximity to the manga was the primary reason that it was canceled. (most people familiar with the manga say that this was a blessing in disguise because it does to shit after the high note that the television series went out on, so there you go)
That sounds like the ultimate "Buy the manga" ploy.

Its getting an OVA episode this summer.
Hmm. I guess that explains it. Still though, when did this show's run end? How long are they making their fans wait for one damn OVA to end the series?
If they are fans of Mirai Nikki they have no standards, and will be willing to wait as long as it takes.

Hyouka 1 (Rewatch)
I keep thinking I should wait for the BDs to be complete before watching this one again, but whatever, I can just watch it yet again when the time comes, ha.
Hyouka is amazing. Not just because of how it elaborates its cast and themes, but also due to more striking aspects that have to do with the construction of the show, particularly about how the cinematography has as many things to say (and show) as the narrative. This episode, particularly the A part, is a prime example of this.
It's often brought up that the show is instantly perceived as "atmospheric"; that is, it is consistently able to deliver the reality of the situation and get the viewer immersed, whatever it may be depicting. I find that the music direction and color management are the things that contribute the most to this feeling, helped immensely by the rest of the presentation of course.
The skill and effort put into this series is almost palpable. I find the overall aesthetic of Hyouka to be the best one Kyoani has achieved. The animation is really nuanced and consistent with solid character designs, the backgrounds and art direction are simply insane, and the slightly overblown directing fits the show to a T. It also features the most mindblowing instances of Kyoani Magic and Attention to Detail to date.
One of the more clear themes present in the series (which is also prominent in the A part of episode 1) is the dichotomy between Oreki and Chitanda and their views of the world, depicted most obviously with the "Grey vs. Rose" visual motif. But beyond the superficial aspects of rose and grey lives described in the opening monologue, I find another, perhaps more implicit layer to this tension that deals with the approach to -and depiction of- everyday life. Oreki doesn't care for little stuff, his outlook on life is frankly very boring, and the show, as depicted from his POV, uses a fitting color palette. But in scenes that prominently feature Chitanda, a girl whose sheltered situation has lead her to be naturally curious about everything in the outside world, the direction changes. Her eyes glitter, the screen goes bright and baroque, and powerful music plays. It's a very effective way of establishing the influence she will have on Oreki's character arc and gradual change throughout the run. The non-literal depiction of events like this and the thought processes help distinguish Oreki's over-active imagination and put it as an defining feature of the show.
Hyouka is dull. It's a story about dull people, doing dull activities in a dull setting. The show deals with very mundane stuff, but the interesting part is that it does so in a very non-dull way. The directing and composition is high-profile and would even be suited for a drama of larger scope; there is a plethora of shots emphasizing seemingly unimportant pieces of background art and animation (the close-ups of Oreki writing or playing with his pen and the janitor closing doors and adjusting fans come to mind) just to add to the atmosphere. Everything is constructed to give a spotlight to these dull little things, to heighten the awareness of them, to depict them in their whole glorious dullness. This approach to a slice-of-life story is not particularly revolutionary, but the degree of skill and attentiveness in the execution put Hyouka in a league of its own.
The sense of place and situation I get sometimes is rare in its accuracy and efficiency. For example, on the classroom at the beginning of the episode, we hear other students' conversations and see how they react to Satoshi's loud voice and endless chatter. There's one guy that even looks actively annoyed by it, and the screen is framed to notice the presence of these people in the room, as well as some props like the class photo at the back. Another time is the outstanding crowd scene that opens the show, where each student has a distinct design and is animated separately, doing their own stuff and having their own expressions. These little details really help to make the world of Hyouka broader, and will later contribute to the Festival arc being one of the most awesome things ever.
I've read many people who didn't find this episode very good after the "OMG ANIMATION" factor passed, but I think it's a damn strong introductory episode and among the best of the series.

The lovely protagonists. I love the lighting in this shot and similar ones.

The backgrounds in this whole sequence are extremely detailed. Everything is reflected on the asphalt, from the traffic lights to the shadows of people, and it goes a long way to capturing the "rainy day" feeling.

This I agree with. Show is still totally worth it though.
All I remember from it was that the animation was surprisingly decent and that the editing really threw me off. I wasn't a fan.
To be honest, I'm really hesitant to use the term "editing" for video because I don't feel like I have a good grasp of what it means. Is it how cuts are composed together?
Lol, it was hard to pick a picture for this week's avatar because there weren't many shots that jumped out at me. I almost went with a Choi one, but I'm glad I chose this one in the end.
Wheelchair robot was just about the dumbest thing to come from the entire sreies.
I guess I never gave it any thought before but Hyouka surprised me with the camerawork. Like, I never noticed that anime almost never have moving cameras and Hyouka has 1 right in the first episode. KyoAni really brought out the big guns for this series.
Too bad it didn't sell more than it should've.
Wow, there's a lot of background stuff I didn't notice. I need to rewatch this episode.
I definitely agree on one of Hyouka's strengths being its construction. What really made me happy watching this episode was how the animation added to each character's characterization. It's one thing when animation is done "for the sake of animation" or for making things look cooler, but I feel like Hyouka does a good job combining all of its elements for a focused experience.
For example, something that stuck out for me when I watched this episode was when Satoshi is introduced to Chitanda and how animated he was. His body shifted around and his hands gestured while he talked. That's something I really enjoyed seeing.
Lol, I'm pointing out animation again because I don't have a good grasp on other cinematic elements. Well, I can also mention that there were a lot of interesting camera angles which many other anime don't use. I assume they don't use them because they're technically complex to animate or something.
The power of CG.
Lol, but seriously, I think I remember a KyoAni director mentioning that CG was useful for that sort of thing.
I didn't even notice at all. I guess I'm less aware of CG when it's used for the background. KyoAni and PA Works like to use it, as far as I know, but I usually don't notice it unless it's really bad. I guess I was too distracted by the pretty girl on the screen.
But I loved Tangled. T_T

Well, Hyouka as a whole becomes much better later on. I'm not too surprised by the initial disinterest from some regarding the opening at all.
