Avowed combat montage

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife
Melee having a bit of hitstop is nice, but magic seems to feel weak. Better than Skyrim, but still miles below Dark Messiah.

What's up with RPGs and being unable to have great melee combat?

There's something about the visuals that I can't quite put my finger on that seems like it's at odds with itself. The mirrorlike reflection of the water or the almost clay looking characters or environments... Just weird.

The cllips are just too short for me to grasp the depth of the combat. I'd like to see at least 5 minutes of uncut gameplay of a middle-game to end-game build to see what can be done.

There's something about the aesthetic of this game that I find incredibly off-putting.

It's probably the over-reliance on UI indicators everywhere (which I don't like in general but feels especially out of place in a fantasy setting)... But there's more to it and I can't exactly put my finger at it.
I think the color palette taken together slightly weird proportion for 1st person or meh animations in 3rd person are off. Taken together with spongey enemies and combat overall looking fairly simplistic it just doesn’t click for me.

I know for a fact this game is going to be OK. Nothing more. Everything about it gives me the vibe that it's going to be great for a single playthrough.

So i think the game looks pretty good tbh from what but my one complaint would be that it needs an FOV slider. The camera is just way too close for my liking and i'd probably get a headache from it because it feels like you're completely constrained to this tiny FOV they got going on.

You can switch it to third person whenever you like, too.

Combat looks good now, but i'm not a fan of the art style, palette and graphic's, i just don't like looking at it and it does put me off the game.

Might be better in third person rather than first. Hard to say either way until I can play it myself.

Looks as good as every other first person combat ever which is terrible.
Cyberpunk 2077, DMoM&M, KCD, Dying Light, Dead Island 2 are the games with absolutley terrific FPS melee and that just a few than I can think of from the top of my head.

It's just Bethesda/Obsidian usually suck at gameplay, camera angle will hardly change anything. All Obsidian isometric games are a slog too (especially when you look at Larian) and New Vegas shooting sucked huge desert balls even back then.

Good ol' Blade, loved that one back then.

Rune felt nice as well, specially for the time. And Heretic II had a staff for melee that played kinda like the light-saber in Jedi Outcast. Good stuff.

I just want them to figure out how to translate impact, swings, momentum and connection better.

That elbow? the hit looks so awkward.

Its seems no matter the attack, how heavy or direction, your eyes and body remain at center.
If NetherRealm Studios animated this game, this would be the result.

It's 2025 now and BoD/Jedi Academy just can't be topped it seems with melee combat. A lot of games never really go out of their way to integrate directional attacks in combat systems and as a result a lot of it is very static. I think with the combat shown in Avowed is it's playing it safe. It's serviceable but not particularly exciting.

I remember playing Jedi Knight 2 with my friends in LAN. We essentially only played on map: Nar Shaddar Streets. Good times.

Peoples who have played it had it up there for GOTY contender and certainly RPG of the year with just the starting area.

But again, the usual, cockroaches who have made it very clear they don't want anything with this game, cannot resist coming back in every Avowed threads for shitposts.

It looks okay, but I’m not keen on the enemy design, and the copious colour explosions. This might have appealed to a younger version of myself, but I prefer a much grittier looking RPG nowadays.

Buggy Loop Buggy Loop haters will be haters, nothing anyone can do about it.

I think there's some fair criticism to be made here, but I have to admit they have been able to improve it quite a bit when compared to the first trailers.
