Avowed combat montage

I’m suprised that people judge an Obsidian game by its gameplay.

Obsidian games are never about the action and all about story and interaction. Combat is just there to break it up. If the story part holds up, we are golden.

I dislike woke stuff as well, but so far I have only seen the pronouns. Hopefully that’s it. The game is not a looker, but I’d rather have this than Veilguard, which was “noisier” with all the effects popping off.

Eh....not me. If the gameplay sucks then I won't be playing the game long.

That's how i judge all games. If you're game isn't fun then i don't care. I enjoyed outer worlds actually and was kinda excited when i saw avowed for the first time, dark fantasy? sign me up, but then they showed first person and i immediately knew it would suck.

Microsoft really needs to get Arkane working on a fantasy first-person game again. But no, instead they are wasting their talents on a fucking Marvel Blade game.

Obsidian games are highly overrated. They used to be good back when they made KOTOR II and new vegas, but a few decades have passed and now they are just barely scratching the surface.

Where is the blood, stab wounds , swords piercing body parts? Where is people up in flames screeching?

This looks like a saturday morning cartoon. Come on it's next gen and they give you this shyte?

Seriously. This looks bad. I know some of you are so desperate for Obsidian to make a good game again, but we all need to face facts. The company is done. Like Bioware talent is gone.

As soon as they fired Avellone, I knew it was done. Sure that Pentiment game turned out good, but its a 2d game, not a super fleshed out 3rd person rpg.
Shit dark messiah looks better and that was from 2006 on source engine:

Doesn't look at all good to me. UI all over the place, garish colours like someone vomited over the screen.
Just got a bad feeling about it... but happy to be wrong come review day.

“Chris Avellone was going to take a break from his writing and make Avowed’s combat better “

“Pentiment is a 2d RPG and everyone knows 2D games don’t need any writing”

Absolutely clown takes in this thread today 🤣

I need both. I enjoyed the gameplay in outerworlds.

Its RPG. Feel free to bypass stuff thats not enjoyable.

“Swinging swords in Skyrim sucks” duh, who told anyone to do that?

How about you dream up a badass build, character that can go invisible, plus can cast vine magic that holds enemies so your companion can beat em up. Plus have bonuses in all types of persuasion.

Or something like that.

Thats the fun part of rpgs.

Their last rpg writing was an activist wet dream level of shit.

So it's time to judge something else since we can't trust their writing anymore.

Also, it's 2025, many action rpg have decent\good combat, it's time for lazy devs to step up their games when it comes to combat aswell, they are not a small indie dev, they are owned by freakin microsoft.

First Person Shooters on average are a safer bet for fun, gameplay-wise. It is harder to screw up move, aim, shoot, left trigger, right trigger in today’s age . It’s why shooters are technically my most played genre even though I have told people that my favorite is RPGs.

Because of that I bet shooting spells is going to feel much better in this game than the melee.

I had the game on my wishlist but i knew after the trailer i wouldnt want to play melee when they showed first person. But it still was on my wishlist because maybe magic or bow and arrow would be fun but this video didnt really convince me

Yeah, this aint it chief. Looks like every other western fantasy RPG mixed in one. A "been there, done that" if you will.

The game kinda shot itself in the foot, unless im mistaken (and it's possible as I'm half asleep), but with the water looking so shiny and reflective, not seeing any reflective lights of the characters spells and flaming sword attacks, looked a bit weird.

Doesn't seem that deep overall either. Same kinda animations and spells but switched from first to third person.

I've played plenty of RPGs my man. The great ones have great game play. This is not a hard ask.

There's something about the aesthetic of this game that I find incredibly off-putting.

It's probably the over-reliance on UI indicators everywhere (which I don't like in general but feels especially out of place in a fantasy setting)... But there's more to it and I can't exactly put my finger at it.
It looks like a VR cartoony fantasy fighting game, that's the issue. Put this on the Quest and it would be a big hit, I imagine.

I've heard the game was supposed to be darker in Tone but Matt Hansen (the guy who insulted the "chuds") was responsible for the more cartoony tone.

Wow, that looks like shit.

Enemies that slowly circle you, rarely engage, rarely land a hit. Meanwhile you are just a flailing tornado of attacks against what amounts to a resilient training dummy.

I didn’t think this game could look worse but this montage really highlights how poorly designed the combat actually is.
