The clown take is yours as I never said he would make Avowed combat better. I said "As soon as they fired Avellone, I knew it was done." meaning the studio was done. They let the cultists rule over competency. Especially when he won the law suit and they didn't offer to hire him back. It was a comment about the competency of the studio in general.

Moving on Pentiment, had good writing, but it's obvious that it has to be a different writer or team than did Outer worlds as it was night and day difference.
Which is honestly kind of shocking as I just looked it up.

Outer worlds lead writer was Leonard Boyarsky, who was a writer in Vampire bloodlines, and Arcanum, two games that are masterpiece games and some of my favorites. It looks like new vegas writers and leads so wtf happened with that?

Pentiment was great for writing which was Josh Sawyer who also worked on Pillars of Eternity. Both were amazing games.

Avowed's game director and lead writer is by a blue haired woman named Carrie Patel. She has "She/Her" in her bio so she is a cultist. Even if she made good games years ago (no clue), people have changed in recent years to enter the "cult" and don't write like they did. I can give her the benefit of the doubt, but when I see those pronoun bios it really sends signals.

Maybe I am wrong, I hope so, maybe things will come out ok, but from the one guy's comments online It's a wait and see.
The gameplay videos look very meh.

Pentiment is overrated and TOW is underrated at this point.

Pentiment is devoid of narrative design it's almost a visual novel, a very light point n click at best, it has its moment and some charming characters but overall it's a very classical piece of writing, heavily inspired by The Name of the Rose. But the main problem is that it's not a RPG by any metrics so the comparison isn't fair.

I feel TOW is more entertaining than what people give it credit for. You can take a bunch of decision that the game takes into account, and the way dialogues are branching can be pretty deep at times, i think the comedy is also not bad at all most of the time. People just like to talk about the cringe Parvati quest.

So it's time to judge something else since we can't trust their writing anymore.

Also, it's 2025, many action rpg have decent\good combat, it's time for lazy devs to step up their games when it comes to combat aswell, they are not a small indie dev, they are owned by freakin microsoft.

Their last RPG was Pentiment, and the game launched to significant critical praise.

Previews for Avowed were really positive on the combat.

Its 30fps on Series X and that's more powerful so would have to tinker with it a bit to get playable fps

We don’t have any confirmation that it will be 30fps on Series X.

You spoke about Combat being mediocre, dismissed Pentiment as a ‘2D game’ and then went on about Avellone’s departure being the final straw. Only clear inference is that you’re claiming Avellone - a writer - would have had some impact on the first person combat. Not to mention you dismissing the excellent writing in Pentiment solely based on the camera perspective which makes zero sense.

Their last two games (Grounded, Pentiment) were very well received pivots. There’s clearly still talent at the studio.

This is peak brainrot.

These peoples would get an aneurysm looking at fantasy art from the 70's & 80's.

Pretending that you don't know what game i was talking about doesn't make it less mediocre but nice try, i should have said their last rpg i played for max precision.

Oh and btw, i clean my ass with positive previews in 2025, after veilguard and many other games, you should do the same.

You have to be joking, nobody asked for monotone single color game, my criticism is towards transgender inspired art design with a special accent to purple, thank you! Colors aren't woke but when you mix them all together without style and depth like this game does IMO, then they needn't be "woke" to suck balls!

Think the art looks bad, but seems decent. The early hands on said the game felt really good.

Wonder if a gun only build is viable
 
Yea outer worlds doesn't get enough credit, game was awesome... The atmosphere was incredible, had alot of the quirkiness of fallout but in space... So good

The first planet of that game made me fall in love with it. After that though I don't know why but it all just kind of felt flat after that. Not bad but I was more going through the motions then actually invested in it. I was never able to figure out why after that first planet I lost so much enthusiasm to play it. Either way looking forward to the next game.

Remains to be seen if they’ve used the extra months of polish to nail down the higher framerate.

It would certainly be a real disappointment if they were capped at 30fps on release on console.

Possibly. I would have expected it down the like, but as you say the delay could have added it. If not I expect it to launch on PS5 with a high framerate option and patch for Series X.

Yea I mean it wasn't without issues but it just had those feels, I love playing in that world. Second I think will be even better easily

He would probably forget about it if it was not listed in the middle of 2 other things to do.

The combat looks good for a first person RPG. It’s a bit weird that this game hasn’t been announced for PS5. But it’s most likely that it’ll end up on PS5 within the next 12 months.

yeah they should have went with PoE 1 atmosphere , my main concern is writing , the dialog seems likes it was written for a disney kids show

it doesnt have that mature , dark gritty tone , everyone talks like a bunch of teenagers from American Pie

Irrespective of all of the drama circulating this game, I think the combat looks like shit for a game released in 2025.

The world design is top notch, but fuck man, that combat looks like it's straight out of 2010. It at least doesn't look as shitty in 3rd person, but first person view has such a weird FoV and the way they just extend the arms looks fucking stupid.

Still, considering the dev time, they should have come up with a much better combat system. I'll just wait and get this game on a deep discount in a few years.
