COD leaker: MW4 (2026) skipping last gen, in dev on next-gen Xbox dev kits

Was it really though? Piccadilly, Azhir Cave, Euphrates Bridge. These are some of the worst maps I've ever seen to this day. The meta playstyle was to set up in a room with claymores.

Black Ops 4 had a better multiplayer, and not one of the maps were bad.

Yes the first iteration of Warzone was good, and greatly helped by the fact everyone was stuck at home and had nothing better to do.
Don't mention Piccadilly please it triggers my PTSD lol.

Series consoles were sold with at least a promise of new Gears, Halo, Forza, Fable, Perfect Dark, Elder Scrolls, etc. Now you want to deny people those promised games and force them to upgrade before they even got the value from their series consoles.
Those are obviously coming to Series consoles, but they’ll play better on the next console. We’ve been there before, there is nothing new happening here really. You’ll have cross-gen releases and next gen exclusives. And if you’re an enthusiast you’ll want the box that plays them all the best. And if you don’t want a PC that’ll be the next Xbox. And the mainstream will stay on their old junk until they’re forced to upgrade or prices go down.

It won't crack 10 million in sales.

It's a massive waste of time, so instead of 1440p on series x these games will run at 1600p on the nextgen xbox at slightly higher settings, all of course reconstructed and framegenerated. Devs can't even provide a massive upgrade with 10 times the power of xbox one, a box that is only 2-3 times more powerful than currentgen is useless.

We will have to agree to disagree I think.

I would buy one to replace my mini itx in the living room if it was an all in one as rumoured but it would have to be significantly better than the 4070ti build thats in there currently, I just don't see it personally.
We can disagree but I have no problem talking about it. I just don’t think much has changed in the circle of life in the console space. We know that MS have new hardware coming so whatever they’re doing next will happen. I just think they should’ve done this earlier.

Phil's recent statement on "console being years away" should put this rumor to a rest. Besides, does anybody believe they will change an entire COD for only 1-2 million userbase? lol.

Thats not what it means, only that the new xbox being the only "next gen console" so by default itll be the only next gen version. Game will still come to every platform known to man as well.

But the title of the thread says "COD MW4 (2026) is skipping last gen". And if by next-gen, we mean the next unannounced Xbox, that would make last-gen the current generation (PS5 / XSX / XSS). No?

That is how I read it.

They need more than just a new console to be successful imo. They need a massive shift in strategy as well to go with it. Now they actually have the studios they should be leveraging those and stop the stupidity of day one gamepass releases. It's clear that it isn't working.

It would.

But in this case last gen =Ps4/Xbone. Its poorly worded. it simply says no "old gen support"

From the actual tweet:

EXCLUSIVE Details for Modern Warfare IV (2026):- No Old Gen support- Traditional UI like the older games (More traditional than BO6)- Engine being overhauled to address MWII problems like "visual clutter" etc.- Being developed on Dev Kits for the Next Xbox- No "Warzone 3" if Verdansk fails to retain current/returning players

Then the last couple decades has been a waste of time too because we’ve had these iterated console generations without massive upgrades for a long long time now.

As said, once sales numbers go down there will be new consoles. You can look at sales figures to spot when a mid gen refresh or new gen is needed. Xbox has gone past that point already. Switch is there now. PS5 is still going strong.

These talks about how a new generation is not needed or how the upgrades aren’t as big as shown in unveil trailers pop up every generation. They don’t matter. When sales are slowing down too much you’ll get new consoles. Period.

And enthusiast gamers will be there as always day 1 excited for that one or two somewhat next gen looking releases. And mainstream will wait. And there will be complaints that there are too many cross gen releases. Then rumours of a mid gen upgrade or new generation pops up and hype builds up. Been there. Done that. Too many times. Will it end soon? I doubt it.

They are rolling out a massive shift in strategy right now. Their games are coming to PlayStation and Switch. They’re tapping into two new userbases, 75+150 million new potential customers with no Gamepass cannibalism.
It’s quite possible that they could play around with their own hardware as pure enthusiast focused experiments and be fine with 10 million sold units as you said while still making more money than now.

There's a difference when sales are down because market saturation is reached and when people are simply not interested in the product. Xbox is the second. The sales spurt will get smaller and smaller with each emergency generation shift. The bigger issue is that 3rd parties might start skipping xbox entirely because the sales don't support the development costs, then they'll be truly fucked.

Wouldn't happen because if you are making a PC and PS version you might as well do an xbox port. Look at sonys costs for PC ports, they are next to fuck all.

Well they did start skipping Xbox One, for example RE4 Remake, if it runs on PS4 it can run on xone and they didn't bother for one of the biggest games out there

Wasn't the architecture in those consoles quite different?

These days everything is basically a PC.

Wow devkits already in the wild for next gen Xbox? Surely it’s just a matter of time now for those specs to start leaking and things will really hot up around here.

Absolutely, it could end badly. But nobody knows what will happen, we can only speculate. If they would go with some sort of TV focused Windows device able to run Steam they should get 3rd party support by default, even from Sony. Gamepass with Steam on the side in the same UI could be interesting even for me who’re 99.9% on PC.

But at this point we have no idea what they’re up to, except that they’re not throwing in the towel on hardware and whatever they’re doing demands a dev kit. We’ll see what happens. I just think they’re too late, that’s my gut feeling.

If Phil is opening his mouth there is a good chance he isn't telling the truth

First party devs aren't really "in the wild".

Correct

IF anything its simply PCs based on the specs, its not true devkits at this point
