Just finished the level 24 Dust Palace Strike with two randoms. Holy shit! We were under leveled like all hell. Took about an hour and a half to beat. So glad we stuck it out. Things were looking grim a couple of times. Managed to go with no wipeouts. I love this game.
Special/Heavy Ammo Synthesis. It's clutch, useful even in easy content, not that expensive, and stackable. best investment for your glimmer.
Dust Palace is my favorite strike.

Shield facilitates huge damage and circular orb creation if your team does a good job. Spawn shield, shield takes damage and spawns orbs of light, melee spawns orbs of light, hunters and warlocks unleash supers and spawn orbs of light, spawn shield and rotate.
I got that baby the other day but still prefer to use Cydonia in PVP.

Buy ammo packs. Or upgrade the Cyrptarch.
Special and especially Heavy ammo synthesis. Unload your full heavy weapon on a boss, synthesize and do it again, and you'll realize that you don't miss the 950 glimmer.
edit: Upgrading the Cryptarch is also good if you really, really like sadness and disappointment.
14k Glimmer got me ~25% of Cryptarch level. So say 60k for a level or something.

Everyone's using it or its shoot-a-likes, so it'd be unfair to you not to use it.
Farming is useful for things besides gear, Motes of Light and Strange Coin in particular. Yeah, if you're farming in hopes of finding a nice legendary weapon or gear piece, you're wasting your time. Grinding rep is a better way to spend time and doesn't take as long as you might think. In the 5 days since I've started really focusing on Vanguard Rep, I've gone from Rank 0 to Rank 2. Another week and I should be at 3 and then I can tell RNGesus to go fuck himself.

I tried the farming on the moon where the hive door breaks open, did it for like 40 mins.
Got 3 blue's and 1 purple. Went back to the tower, blue's turned out to be totally crap and the legendary turned out to be a green weapon.
Because of the blue's my cryptarch level'd to 5 and gave me two legendarys, one turned out as a green and the other as a blue revolver with shit stats.
Guess i'll have to be really patient.

Please. I have 60 hours in this game and have rolled 2 legendaries and bought 1. Dont even worry about grinding drops. Grind rep so you can buy what you want or need. Rep wont go away.
I'm going to start this way, don't that much time to play so rep grinding is the best way for me i guess.
I've done well enough with the hand cannon too. But the Shingen and Cydonia are far more consistent, thus why everyone is using it. If you miss with a hand cannon, you're fucked.
Unless you're enjoying it, don't do this. the came doesn't intend for you to progress this way. Read up if you want more info!

Had a "legendary" night tonight, so to speak. First off, got an exotic weapon bounty. I took the one for the Pulse Rifle. I'm not a huge fan of Pulse Rifles, but looks like I'm going to have to start using one. Thanks to fellow gaffer biteren, got the weekly heroic strike done to finish off the first part of the bounty. One member went AFK at the part where you wait for the runes to decode, and we 2-manned that entire area, which blew my mind. Decoded a blue afterwords which ranked up my Cryptarch and I got a package with 3 legendaries, one of which turned out to be a purple armor THAT WAS FOR MY CLASS. Since that was my first purple armor, even pushed me from 24 to 25. Also got my Vanguard rank up and enough marks to buy a second piece of armor, although I think I'm gonna wait on the second piece since I don't think 2 purple armors is enough to get to 26, might as well wait until either I have 130 marks or I get a legendary drop. Don't want to get the same piece twice.

If you go from the front with it, you get fucked by anyone using a shotgun. But it's pretty damn satisfying to interrupt a fight with a flying tackle instantly taking a guy down. I almost never get away with a tackle on someone who's looking at me though.

If they look straight at you use the should bash to quick move to the side then fusion/shotgun
My favorite is the flying unidirectional knee of one it kill.

So far as we know, raising your Cryptarch level does nothing but get you more engrams to give to the the Cryptarch, so that he can disappoint you more.
Guys- the sooner you start looking at the Cryptarch as a villain the more you'll enjoy this game.
