How soon until MOPGA hats appear for sale?
Almost every single developed signatory put out a similar press statement - even Theresa May (after much prompting and ridicule) and the UK is the US' lapdog. Why is doing something nearly every other developed country has also done super-amazing when it comes to Macron specifically? Why is there no equivalent thread for Merkel's statement or Gentiloni's?
I am liking this guy more and more.
Translation:
Emmanuel Macron also invited American scientists and entrepreneurs to come work in France. "To all the scientists, entrepreneurs, engaged citicizens that were disappointed by the US president's decision," he assured them that they would "in France, find a second nation." "I am calling you: come work here, with us, on concrete solutions about climate," he added. "Tonight, America has turned its back on America, but France will never turn its back on Americans," Emmanuel Macron added.
Daaaaamn

Hopefully Merkel's reaction will be much the same.
France should ask for the Statue of Liberty back
Pretty jealous of these leaders Germany, France and Canada have.
Specially when I look at our choices of May or Corbyn, god that's depressing and with Brexit on top what a shitshow the UK is right now.
There's something slightly off about the Trump picture. Can't put my finger on it...
German Chancellor Angela Merkel says the decision by President Donald Trump to withdraw the U.S. from the Paris climate accord cant and wont stop all those of us who feel obliged to protect the planet.
Merkel said Friday that the announcement by Trump was extremely regrettable and thats putting it very mildly.
But she told reporters in a brief statement that its now necessary to look forward after last nights announcement by the U.S. administration.
Merkel says Germany and others will combine our forces more resolutely than ever ... to address and tackle big challenges for humanity such as climate change.
She adds that we need this Paris agreement to preserve creation. Nothing can and will stop us from doing so.
I was surprised to learn Angela Merkel is supposed to be centre-right. Centrist in Europe seems to be hard left by American standards.

Haha, thanks for the replies guys. I wasn't expecting that big a response
To be exact, Chinese is my mother tongue but I'm mainly speaking in English. So I'll be basing the difficulty of learning new language with it. Currently studying Aerospace, haven't decided where to go afterwards other than "not US or U.K. If possible"
Germany elected Hitler.
Macron is center-right too. There aren't many american Democrats that would be considered on the left in Europe, no matter how much people like to say Bernie Sanders is "far left" (a lot of people don't even consider him "left" at all for our standards).I was surprised to learn Angela Merkel is supposed to be centre-right. Germany elected Hitler.
No, they didn't actually. He was never democratically elected into power.

Native English speakers in America are frequently told by non-natives that our language has too many cryptic exceptions and that many other languages are easier with more consistent rules. You've never encountered this belief before?
No, they didn't actually. He was never democratically elected into power.
Bullshit. Educate yourself.
Yeah what the hell lol. The fact that Hitler was democratically elected is what makes it so scary when we get loons like Trump spouting racist bullshit to win.
What actually scares me more is the ammount of people who come up with that shit recently. Lack of Education seems to be a bigger problem then I expected...
Yeah. As an ignorant Yank, I have no idea about this guy's domestic policies, but at least in terms of diplomacy, he's really killing it so far.I am liking this guy more and more.

Indeed. This is very true. France was a key ally for the United States during the Revolutionary War and they provided a lot of invaluable help against Britain to the young nation. If it weren't for that assistance, it's extremely unlikely the US would have been able to win some key battles and the war would have likely taken a very different turn as a result. France was one of our very first allies, and facts such as that should not be as easily tossed aside or forgotten as they are. Much <3 <3 <3 for France! The part about never turning their back on America is particularly important. Without the French, there would most likely not be an America. Funny how easy people forget that.
yeah me as well. Also Hitler was a well respected leader who actually did help germany grow stronger. That it was in preparation for a great war was not foreseeable for most at that time. Only after the invasion of poland and the systematic eradication of the jews started people saw his true face.
He was.
Bullshit. Educate yourself.
Last German elections were not free elections. There was already huge amount voter suppression by Nazi stormtroopers. In last free elections Nazis got 33% of votes and actually their popularity decreased compared to previous elections.
I have no idea what his presidency is going to ultimately lead to, but this guy really has balls of steel. I mean, first he out alphas Trump on his trip, then he makes a video telling the US directly that he wants their best in France, and now he's just like, fuck that, we aren't making no deals. I'm just waiting for him to just flat out say, 'Fuck Donald Trump' and drop the mic.
Then the NSDAP had a coaliton with the conservatives and Hitler became Chanchellor perfectly in the ways how the the democratic system of the Weimarer Republic works.
Angela Merkel had never a 50% majority, too. She always relied and other parties to make a coalition with her. And its perfectly democractic, its the way our system works.
I wish every world leader would do this. We, the US, deserve to be sanctioned and cut off from the world until we learn from out mistakes. Send us to our room.
Shit-tons of American exceptionalist conservatives would love this.
No, the elections leading to Hitler's election as chancellor were generally considered fair. But during that time, most parties had actual goon squads that either brawled with squads from other parties or just wrecked different events, e.g., theatre plays.Wasn't the actual election that Hitler won generally considered a sham due to massive voter intimidation the Nazi party carried out?
He was.
What? Of course he was.No he wasn't. Stop this revisionism.
After the election, Chancellor Papen urged Hindenburg to continue to govern by emergency decrees. Nevertheless, on 3 December he was superseded by his Defence Minister Kurt von Schleicher who in talks with the left wing of the Nazi Party led by Gregor Strasser tried to build up a Third Position (Querfront) strategy. These plans failed when in turn Hitler disempowered Strasser and approached Papen for coalition talks. Papen obtained Hindenburg's consent to form the Hitler Cabinet on 30 January 1933.
No seriously though, how hard is it to learn French? I've already gotten Chinese down so now it's either French or German.
I'd say French is probably easier, at least for english speakers. According to the US Foreign Service Institute (FSI) you need less than 600 hours to become fluent in french, whereas german demands 750 hours, which makes french one of the easiest languages to learn. Maybe there's something like the FSI in China with a similar list so you can base the difficulty according to chinese as well.Haha, thanks for the replies guys. I wasn't expecting that big a response

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_federal_election said:Federal elections were held in Germany on 6 November 1932.[1] They saw a significant drop in votes for the Nazi Party and increases for the Communists and the national conservative DNVP. It was the last free and fair all-German election before the Nazi seizure of power on 30 January 1933, as the following elections of March 1933 were already accompanied by massive suppression, especially against Communist and Social Democratic politicians. The next free election was not held until August 1949 in West Germany; the next free all-German elections took place in December 1990 after reunification.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_federal_election said:Federal elections were held in Germany on 5 March 1933. The 1933 poll was held after the Nazi seizure of power and the Reichstag fire, just six days before the election. Nazi stormtroopers had unleashed a campaign of violence against the Communist Party (KPD), left-wingers,[1]:317 trade unionists, the Social Democratic Party of Germany,[1] and the centre-right Catholic Centre Party.[1]:322
The 1933 election followed the previous year's two elections (July and November) and Hitler's appointment as Chancellor. In the months before the 1933 election, brownshirts and SS displayed "terror, repression and propaganda [...] across the land",[1]:339 and Nazi organizations "monitored" the vote process. In Prussia 50,000 members of the SS, SA and Stahlhelm were ordered to monitor the votes by acting Interior Minister Hermann Göring, as auxiliary police.[2]
