Got to mid way point in fact probably a little bit farther. Right now this game is a firm 7/10

Side quest suck and still suck I can't believe this game with how good the combat can be has quest that involve 0 combat. Unless you count the hunts then does are the only side fights in the game.

Crafting useless, gear, level ratio, Gil worthless sitting on about 200k worth of Gil nothing to buy how the only game that comes to mind that had a problem like that was the base base version of gta 4. Most rpgs, jrpgs and open world games that have an economy actually function and have things to buy even hack n slash games have ones as well like in bayonetta.

Story I'll do. Full write up later I boy I have alot to say.

Since I'm last half way and past the desert section. I can't believe this game doesn't have any large towns or buildings you can go into and out of how do games on the switch, new, snes, psx, ps2, ps3, mega drive have jrpgs with tons of in door areas or rooms to explore and this game doesn't. It insane that you got games like xenoblade, persona, Witcher, yakuza all of them, cyberpunk, gta, red dead and tons of other games have 100s of in door areas in a tiny fraction of the game yet a full scale world game like ff16 has barely any in door areas. You cant even go into the bar after a certain section in the desert area. Games on a shoe string budget do exploration better than this game.

The titan boss fight was cool alot of anime references in that fight but if you've played all of platinums or king hearts games this section felt like a mix of those two studios game design which was great more of the game needs that and less of yoshi p and cmb3 dated stupid 2004 ff14 mmo design choices and structure.

Right now if we get a ff17 get platinum, the kingdoms hearts Tokyo devs, ryoko, and normua and give yoshi p a firm hand shake and let he keep making ff14 Disney land/ the Sims edition and let the action game studios take the full reign.

Guys, I haven't had this much excitement playing a game in such a long time. It's a complete spectacle. The characters, the cutscenes, the action, everything is so well done.

This is easily my GOTY, even the very uneven performance mode doesn't hamper my enjoyment, it's incredible.

I am so absolutely impressed, easily a 9.5/10 for me. Just fix the performance mode for that last half point.

Please tell me the game introduces some way to run or travel faster :messenger_weary:

Just beat the Clyde Shadow/obtained Ifrit

5th eikon fight including beginning.

So I've been loving this game but the titan fight fell flat for me. Sure it looked cool but so what. Mechanically it was not very engaging and dragged on way to long really felt like I was mashing buttons the whole time.

The first section was pretty cool as you got to move around the area and Duke it out a bit.

The second section though meh ended up just being a giant fist slamming into a floating platform. Basically a bigger Coloussus of Rhodes fight.

The 3rd section was definitely the worst the scale was all wrong. I definitely didn't get the impression we were that high up falling for that long felt silly and the fights mechanics definitely didn't feel good while playing.

In the 2nd and 3rd part everything just got a bit too anime and overtop for my liking. I know this is a werid complaint because the games hardly releastic but apparently suspension of disbelief can only be taken so far.

The game is still awesome loving the core combat, world, and story. Ironically the typhon fight has been the highlight so far [SPOILER

In the last 25% of the journey now, it's been a hell of a ride, will reserve making a big post until after I've completed it but what I said in my first 10 hours hasn't changed in my 50th hour, GOTY, warts and all.

Edit: holy crap. Just did this S rank hunt, when the big bastard's health was at 50% I'd already used up ALL my potions, managed to beat it with about 3% of my lifebar left 🥳

Anyone get a weird bug where enemies health resets and they run away in open areas? Seems like when they get too far from their usual roaming area. Seems like a weird oversight that should have been fixed in play testing
I've experienced this several times. I just assumed that enemies were fleeing after taking a beating.

I found FF16 for £53 physical. I'm undecided whether to buy it or not, as I've only ever played the original FF7 and FF7R. For those that are deep into the game or have finished FF16, are the characters and story gripping? I appreciate games are subjective to the individual.

The characters, story and combat are the best parts about the game. I and others have posted plenty of thoughts on the game, most seem to love it despite it's flaws, others not so much. As you said, everything is subjective but I'd say FFXVI *objectively* has some of the best characters, narrative beats and combat the series has ever seen.

Finished the main story this afternoon. Solid 8.5 overall I think. I'd find it hard to recommend to somebody who wants that "classic" Final Fantasy experience. It's a great action game, with a great lengthy story and some good characters. But some lacking design choices leave it wanting, overall.
No switchable party members, only one weapon type the entire game, some characters were just done dirty by the end. Side quests were mostly dogshit and the world map teleporting sucks. The crafting system too is pretty much pointless, coulda just had stuff be rewards from bosses.
I feel they totally blew their load with the Titan fight, the rest after that just didn't feel the same, especially the last eikon you get, that was pretty disappointing in terms of spectacle.

Yoshichan

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?
Doesn't sound like that mode was that challenging for those who thought the 1st playthrough was too easy or am I wrong?... 👀
Aye, it’s still very easy but there were 2 hard ones in there!

Very important question, anyone can help?

I just defeated Kupka and I unlocked titan abilities in menu but I can't find them in the game. No abilities to swap to, is this normal?

You can only equip 3 at the same time so you need to go to your gear and abilities menu and replace one with that one

Just did the first S Rank hunt. It's the one shown in the gameplay videos before the game release and yeah, it was fun. I've said it before, but good telegraphing of enemy attacks is so so important in action games, and this game does it masterfully.

I think I waited too long to do the S rank hunts, I was mid 40s level. 😢

Hoping maybe to do them earlier on NG+ and maybe less side quests so I won't be so over leveled.

So in the end I decided not to proceed with New game Plus for now and loaded my old save.

As much as I don't want to go through the area of the point of no return again I think I would have rather to get all of the hunts and get all of the sound rolls and all of that kind of stuff on this save before I move on to New game Plus. Same thing with the Chronolith challenges, just go ahead and find the ones I missed and go do them all now.

So far they haven't been too bad. I did both Shiva and Ramuh on the first try, though it was kind of close on Shiva because I wasn't 100% what was going on. I had to try twice with Grauda, but I did a poor job of collecting time with her the first time around. Titan I failed though and I failed spectacularly. I never really used him much in the full game so this is probably why I'm not that familiar with his abilities but I just had a very hard time getting extra time bonuses while playing with him I felt like I was doing what it told me to do but I wasn't getting the result. Any tips for titan? I already expected that I would have trouble with Bahama and Odin because I also don't make full use of their abilities but I'm not sure we will see.

There's no point in playing arcade mode or stage replay right? There's nothing you get out of those is that right?

So in other words just wrapping up everything I can, getting basically the few trophies that remain and then going to NG+.

I do have one question about one of the trophies though the one in which you are supposed to do five precision sics with Torgal... What even is a precision sic? I ignored him for most of the game, Clive is more than capable.

Buy asap. These are the currently best writers so if you enjoyed the other two I’m sure you’ll like this one too.

I still cant get over how fucking good this game looks on OLED in HDR. Probably the best use of HDR i've ever seen. Everything is so natural looking, especially the nights and darker scenes
Yes HDR is among the best ones I’ve seen on the platform tbh. Perfect use!

So I just beat the final fantasy difficulty, skipping dialogues and side quests. 7 hours to complete, sheeesh!
Eh, I don't think I'll do new game plus or higher difficulties until I feel like replaying this years later.... sprinting through the game again just to get through it as fast as possible so that I can hit max level and get the best gear just doesn't seem that appealing to me. I always like to take my time and enjoy a game lol.
That being said, I'm surprised there's no way in game to see my play time. Every other game in the franchise (even spinoffs) has this...

This x1000. John did a disservice by failing to discuss in the DF tech review which is surprising since he's a big proponent of high quality HDR. And FFXVI HDR is second to none. The HDR in combination with the high quality shadow rendering really transformed it to the most visually stunning game on PS5.

Honestly, this must be the least challenging game I've played since Pokémon. Now I have the R3 and L3 ability which makes it even easier.

Really stupid that there's no hard mode from the get go, and why on earth is the standard difficulty so brain dead.

I think you'd enjoy 16. The game grows nicely.
I'd also recomend the 10 Remaster down the line as well as that's another FF with emphasis on characters/world/story.

Uh, that
Titan
fight was stupidly long and boring. So far that was main complaint that boss/miniboss fights are too frequent and most of them vastly overstay their welcome, but this fight was just on another level. It's pretty clear that leadership behind the game came from an MMO, the problem is that it's not an MMO.

The only way is to go back to the PS menu and highlight the game, over to the right it'll tell you. for me it says 53 hours but it feels longer to me so idk. At least it gives you a ballpark.

Are kidding me!? That fight was hype as fuck and music was fucking amazing, I wish the fight would lasted little longer.

Yeah, those fights are the absolute worst of MMO design meets late-2000’s QTE fests. They look cool, but there’s zero substance. All the core gameplay gets thrown out the window in favor of spectacle.

I keep seeing people say MMO style inspiration for some of these fights, are you guys talking about XIV or something? I've played several MMOs and I've never encountered anything like these fights. Granted the MMOs I played are mostly really old by now, but I just want a better understanding of what you're talking about. For reference I've played Ultima Online (the goat), Asheron's Call, Anarchy Online, and some WoW even (🤮). As well as some other misc earlyish 2000s MMOs.

My only experience with mmorpgs is ragnarok online and I wish it had those kind of boss fights lmao

Don't understand why some are praising the boss fights tbh. If I wanted visual spectacle I'd gladly watch kingsglaive ff. So far the major eikon bossfights are among the shallowest fights I've ever experienced in games. Complete qte fest whenever you are not punching continuously.

Fucking anime out of its ass!

Amazing!

Far too easy but damn....the spectacle is amazing.

My only real complaint is its too easy and sometimes there's just too much going on all over the screen. Just a tad too busy. It works for what it's going for and I guess that'd why it's so easy but kinda just enjoying it as like I'm watching an anime series.
Then why not just watch on YouTube? Save 70 dollars.

The 5th Eikon fight was pretty cool as well. They spent a majority of the budget on these fights.

Bahamut going up the various levels of Flare was a cool structure to the overall fight. Ifrit and Phoenix doing DBZ fusion was unexpected, and awesome.

Not sure how the spectacle will be raised further for the next Eikon, but I'm looking forward to it. But for now, back to the filler content that is the Hideaway.

I'm not even quite done with the game but I agree strongly with this. I was really not thrilled at all when that showed up and continued to get stronger and move further away from what the first portion of the game is about. I mean, I halfway expected it so it wasn't surprising, just disappointing. I'm very close to the end I'm sure but I mostly just want it to end now whereas before I was enjoying it much more (plot wise).
My biggest issue is how the plot is entirely predictable from the halfway point. You should be easily able to guess how it's all gonna play out.
And how they had the audacity to put in sidequest quality content into the main quest. There are so many fetch quests especially in dalmekia that I just started tuning out.

Because I'm enjoying playing the game, I know its crazy someone enjoying the game that you dont like......how dare they!
I did not ask you? You seem to work overtime defending this game. Why are you replying for someone else? The other guy was saying he finds the combat ludicrously easy and was watching it like an anime sooo.

Beat it. Got every trophy but the one for FF mode and purchasing every skill. Not going to lie,it became a slog towards the end and I just started skipping the dialog in every sure quest which yessh, they all pretty much sucked.

Story definitely keeps going stronger. Loved the Dhalmekian region. The music the visuals everything was just beautiful and a nice change of scenery. Just haven't seen Waloedean region.. but I'm guessing I'm going there next.

The way they introduce characters and build them from there and keep adding to them until they are done in the story is just masterful. It's perfectly balanced with enough backstory, current motivation of the characters and their conclusions so far have been memorable to say the least.
