I thought I’d push through the noise, but I can’t. I made a new video as the next area was hit with the blight and you can hear the noise clearer there, as there aren’t any birds to confuse it with.

Which hps are you using?

Do they accentuate treble?

Try tonight down high frequencies if you have access to eq.

This particular noise doesn’t bother me, but I can relate. Ashley’s constant heavy breathing in RE4 remake drove me absolutely fucking nuts, but it was too obscure of an issue for the devs to notice, so it never got patched. It sucks.

That’s all way more than I know. I have a sound bar that does Dolby digital. I hear the noise if I use headphones, or use my phone with remote play.

This is a sound mixing issue. Not a bug and likely won't be fixed.

Use speakers, high frequencies get attenuated while traveling through air. Won't be as harsh. If you insist on HPs, try using some Sony ones. Or venerable Sennheiser HD650 if you can get one. These tend to be dark sounding and will sound tolerable most likely.

Question about a certain Eikon...

Anyone know what the deal is with Leviathan? At first I thought he might just not exist in this universe. But then theres like one random line of dialogue from Joshua where hes talking about the mural and he says something like "It even shows Leviathan the Lost." And the ol' tomes card for Eikons does specifically mention an Eikon of water when listing them all out.

But other than that not a peep about him at all unless I just missed it. Based on Joshua's line I guess he's uhhhh missing lol. But kinda disappointed they didnt flesh that out more, seems like some pretty rich lore.

I was half expecting some random character to reveal themselves at some point and be like "Surprise mother fuckers! Leviathan time!!" But nada.

Yeah I asked myself the same thing, but there really seems to be nothing on it.

I just reached the conclusion of that arc (which is incredible!) but I'm gonna stop playing for today as I know the start of the next section is gonna follow that same weak ass, padded formula.

It really is baffling. A linear game which somehow incorporates the worst pacing aspects of open worlds.

9/10 -10/10 game in 2023 right here.

This is what blows my mind, this game should be mid to high 70s and no more than that. There's something drastically wrong with the industry imo. Or reviewers.

Is it the hype cycle? Is it flying them all to London for an event to win them over? I'm confused by it.

If the answer to me is "this is genuinely an excellent game, a prime example of the medium and you are wrong" then I think we are fucked.

Dude, seriously, what are you hearing? There's no context for the tweet; give me a timestamp. Otherwise...

Maybe you really are Mythos?

Maybe and just maybe people enjoying the game? Is that too crazy? I mean Witcher 3 and Skyrim has one of the worst combat in RPGs and yet lot of people consider those game one of the best games.

I LOVE the combat and story, so to me it more than deserves my GOTY.

Nostalgia. I don’t think reviewers do it purposefully. It just creeps in.

It’s one of the best games this year. The “bad” side quests don’t take away anything from the awesome cast, script, music, combat, art design, and story.

It’s easily well worth the scores it received. Nothing overhyped about it

You pretty much hear the high pitch noises with ever step. It’s not just me that’s affected by this. Others here, as well as Reddit have had this happen.

If you're using tv speakers, have you tried going into sound options and changing to a different preset? Like if you're on Cinema or Game mode, try changing it to something else. Or, is the noise there on all presets?

I finished the game last night and thought it was really great.

Story, writing, graphics, music and voice acting are all 10/10.

The combat… flashy and fun at the start, but became a bit boring by the end. Not my favourite part of the game. 7/10

Overall I’d give it a 9/10.

I’m using a sound bar, for the most part. I’ve tried all the modes it offers, plus the different audio modes the ps5 offers, including 3D audio (which never sounds right).

I’ve tried using some Bose earbuds and some in-ear monitors that I purchased from monoprice. Both still have the noise, only worse since they’re in my ear.

I’m thinking about pulling the trigger on official Sony ps5 headset.

Barnabas down,
what a cringe ass dude, the plot turned into a bad shonen basically, let's see how they close this thing.

His playstyle is pretty cool tho.

It just stumps me that this is what people consider a good game now...you could cut so much padding and have a better game imo..I just don't get it.

I understand taste is subjective but I feel like I'm getting further and further removed from mainstream AAA games like this.

I guess I'm glad others are enjoying it, but I just don't understand it personally.

I mean don't get me wrong...I'm kind of enjoying my time with it. I want to play it for the awesome spectacle. I guess I just don't line up with what I think the review score should be.

You can bait attacks with r2 + touchpad.

Bait attacks so you can dodge them? 🤣

Now I can see why this game is misunderstood to be overly easy.

The game is actually very innovative, doing stuff nobody even thought before. That's why majority of the players are playing it wrong.

Mmm yes, if i have to evade to fill a bar and the enemies are passive, i'm gonna use a game feature to bait their attacks, maybe they should make their enemies more aggressive by default so i don't have to use this shit that i never used in any other game with a bit of challenge, no idea what are you talking about, you still need to have the skill to avoid the attack, what change if you just wait their turn instead of baiting?

Not sure if you were joking or not...

I can say the same about how others can enjoy games like Witcher 3 or any Bethesda games, they have shitty ass combat system but guess what? That’s how taste work if you “can’t understand” then I don’t know what to tell you.

What the hell? So we're all playing it wrong yet the game is rewarding us by making it piss easy?

Do any of the presets muffle the noise at all? It sucks though since I don't think an issue like this would get addressed at all. If you had access to a full on equalizer, it might be worth experimenting with but that's way too much work for a videogame. Don't think the official PS5 headset would do much either. Just more money down the drain.

Avancing really slow on it because not much time to game (and other hobbies kind of took over gaming at the moment). Around 12h and just after I confronted Ifrit and then titan's dominant learnt about Benedikta's death.

Game has some "flaws". Especially for a Final Fantasy. The biggest might be the drop of RPG mechanics, outside of skill tree (which you can very quickly fill) and accessories choice (weapons and armor are just no brainer, hope for meaningful passive abilities on them to change that) there is nothing.
Also the absence of Magic and elemental resistance (you can attack a Fire Bomb with fire and it's fine) or no control on your party (controls their action or accessories) is kind of a miss.

There is also some "archaïc" parts like the side quest (go kill the monster just 20 m from here and come back) or very static and unnatural "dialog" with NPCs (mainly for sidequest) but overall it gives a nostalgic "90s JRPG" feeling to me and I take that as an intentional choice.

So I can get some nostalgic FF fan being disappointed by it.

That being said, I love the game. Combat, visuals, music and story are really good. I can get enough of them. Every cutscenes gives me excitement like the old FF CGI cutscene gave me.
So yes, the nostalgic FF fan in me is a bit disappointed but on another side, the game gives me such a good time that I can't be mad at it.

How did you feel about the story? I felt like most characters where very underdeveloped/one dimensional. The villains were boring. They tried to make Barnabas more deep by showing he is a conflicted character but it just felt too little imo. Though I did like the philosophical questions he raised. The villains in this game just acted as obligatory boss fights before destroying each crystal rather than have any thing interesting to contribute. Hilariously enough I feel Benedicta is the most complex and fleshed out character in this game. Jill is wholly unimportant and the story would be just fine without her.

OK, Ultimania mode should have been a normal difficult to select in the game and not just an arcade mode difficult, enemies hit so much harder, your potion are limited and you start over from the beginning if you die, having a blast at the moment.

There are games with far fewer issues that get absolutely roasted for being dated/derivative; Ghostwire: Tokyo, Devil's Third, Lords of Shadow. Yes, XVI is in the same tier as all of those games when it comes to dated ass mechanics and I'd argue that all of those games brought more to the table than XVI.

There's no issue with saying XVI is your personal favorite. You can't claim it's a definitive 10/10 and then deflect on some BS whenever someone calls out the glaring issues in XVI.

XVI 100% deserves to be called out for archaic gameplay mechanics.

You just have to get better at truly cutting out all noise and outside influence and thinking for yourself. Doesn't matter if everyone but you tells you the game looks amazing and will be GOTY. Doesn't matter if its a series you've played countless times in the past. Just look at it yourself and just be honest. Literally all of the complaints I see people have were fully evident in the demo, so I wasn't surprised by any of it.

People lie to gaslight you for various reasons. People lie to themselves for years and then change their mind about a game after the hype dies down. And other people just have totally different taste. Just figure out what you like and don't buckle, even if it's you versus the world. It's just games. You know what you like better than anyone else.

Yeah a lot more people need to learn this. I think Bioshock sucks but I'm pretty sure tons of people would want to beat the shit out of me for that but idc.

I'm just slogging through. Not completed as of yet but the mmo, let's be honest...BAD side quests are destroying the pace....Benedikta was great...the opening was great. The black shields killing the bearers was awesome and dark...

Ultima character design is amazing. There's things to like but a lot of baggage dragging it down.

I'll see how I feel about it in the end but it's gonna take me a while because I genuinely and I mean genuinely have had a nap after every 2 hour play session it's that easy and boring in spots.

60% completed so far

Feels like they went NUTS with the production values during the first 30% of the game, and then realized "oh shit, we wont have enough budget for the whole game like this"

So the drop in terms of production values after the time skip was huge. The game gets more open and expanded in a lot of ways, but that razor sharp storytelling got a hit with MMO-like quests and dialogue with terrible lip synch.

Game is still very enjoyable, I'm liking it a lot, but you can tell that they were saving their budget for the big story beats and padding with the MMO quests

The game should have been more lean, then. I think that people would be fine without the apples sidequest, or the one to bring some fabrics to that lady

Yeah I think I'll start messing around with that soon, even Hard mode has been a pushover for me.

Sure but if you go out saying GOTY/GOAT/Best FF ever then don't act surprised if you get challenged on it. Doesn't mean you're not obligated to defend your opinions but being able to do so kinda does come with the territory of being on a discussion forum.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Not sure if its ok to post in open, but will use tags, but we know by now that Leviathan is not in the game, however there are signs of a mother crystal that you never visit judding out of the sea, which is no doubt where it would have been. Looks like it might have been cut for time.

Sure. The only reason to even talk about it on here is to get reactions from others.

This is kind of a derail so I'll drop it, but the only issue is when people freak out about any dissident opinion and try and aggressively smear you or accuse you of lying or whatever else. Happened to me countless times on a ton of games, and it's literally never once worked or made me change my mind. This also happens on overdrive before a game is released as well. I'm okay with hearing everyone's opinions, and that's the main thing I usually enjoy in a discussion forum.
