Forza Horizon 5 on PS5 Will Require a Microsoft Account to Play

The official Forza Motorsport website has been updated with an FAQ for the upcoming PlayStation 5 version of the fifth entry in the Forza Horizon series. According to the details shared, in addition to a PSN account, players will need to link to a Microsoft account in order to play Forza Horizon 5 on PS5. This process begins the first time the game is booted up on the console.

Upon launching Forza Horizon 5 on PS5, players will be asked to sign-in with their Microsoft account and link it to the PlayStation Network account they log into on their console. Linking a Microsoft account to a PSN account is on a title-by-title basis and permanent. Players have the ability to unlink the Microsoft account to that PSN account, for Forza Horizon 5, but will be constrained to re-linking to only that specific and originally linked Microsoft account.

Furthermore, the FAQ clarified that Forza Horizon 5 for PS5 will not carry over save files from versions of the game released on other platforms. This is also the same behavior between the Xbox and Steam versions, where game files are separate and not synchronized. Players can, however, publish User Generated Content (UGC) on one platform and download it to play on another. However, they won’t be able to edit it unless they’re playing on the save profile it was originally created on. PS5 players can also enjoy all the UGC shared by other players from the Xbox and Steam versions of Forza Horizon 5. Additionally, some online statistics, such as leaderboard scores, are synchronized if players log into the game using the same Microsoft account.

Except, this isn't anything new?

Didn't they force Playstation to do it by partnering up with Nintendo for crossplay and crosssave on Minecraft, some years ago, on Xbox One and Switch? Sony initially refused to allow it fearing it will increase Xbox MAU and DAU counts from PS4 users.

They even released a "Better together" ad on YouTube, with only Xbox and Switch.

I can't find the official video on their channel (probably hidden by now) but that caused massive negative PR for Sony and they cave in to allow MS account integration on Playstation.

This is the updated Better Together trailer with all 3 consoles.

Basically MS used crossplay as a PR tool to armtwist Sony into allowing account integration. Lmao

This has been a practice for all MS games with GAAS elements for quite a while. Sea of Thieves and Hi-Fi Rush recently had it too I think. Nothing new.

Err not that I gave a shit about the PSN requirements but maybe because it doesn't impact them because they are on PC?

3rd party account logins being a requirement have an impact on everyone regardless of platform becuase of the precedent it sets.

If people are happy to lap it up in certain instances then publishers everywhere are taking note and will not hesitate to introduce it elsewhere when they see fit.

It's pretty simple, if you are against it on one platform (or when it involves a certain publisher) then you should be against it everywhere.

Are Microsoft going to be complete shithouses with all their first party PlayStation games?

I’m not going to need to deal with this crap on Doom am I?
Perhaps we will be fortunate enough to not only be required to sign up for a Microsoft account but a separate Bethesda account as well.

Why the drama? Isn't this a standard practice? It's annoying and creates friction until a company feels the need to generate positive PR, at which point they drop the requirement (of cof PS and Ubisoft )
