The severity of the stupidity shown by certain leaders is, really ludicrious.

What is going on here? Can someone please explain? It seems it is select political threads are allowed somehow?

In this case, nobody in their right mind seriously thinks Trump is going to get Greenland. This thread is a big joke about something ludicrous that's never going to happen, for so very, very many reasons. Think of this like taking the piss out of the flat earthers.

...I agree with you on the grooming gang thread though. That's very political, and not a little xenophobic.

We should look into the feasibility of towing Greenland into the newly christened Gulf of America. Really America it up a notch.

America first.

Drives me up the wall when I see someone say that on YouTube etc.

What these pea brains don't understand is that defending Ukraine, and ultimately defeating Russia (Putin dragged before the Hague is a bonus) is putting America first.

They've been told it's bad to help Ukraine by people who have a lot of money, time and resources invested in Russia. Sadly, they've believed that shit the same way some believe the USA could capture Greenland.

There is a subset of the population who truly belive that if we closed all the borders and stopped exporting and importing anything that we would all be living like kings.

Bad actors being deployed everywhere within key US government entities. A paper only works as well as its enforcement.
And most will only remain talking points in fear of another enforcement.

You see, the Bill of Rights does not “grant us rights,” those are inalienable and God given per our Constitution.

It is to tell the government they have no rights to trample. Most other countries don’t have those core founding principals. While bad actors will push and shove and be loudmouths, we are not the same foundation wise.

The people have spoken 11/05/24.

Every President from Nixon onward contributed to the disillusionment and devil-may-care attitude we have today. It's all been a steady march torwards unrepentant bitterness. Something is fundamentally broken and I don't see anyone fixing it anytime soon.

Don’t know if I’d go back that far. As a kid in the 80’s, I remember there was a lot of bipartisan respect for Reagan, even when hardline Democrats disagreed with him. They still at least listened and compromised.

Without veering into political discussion, I think the schism in modern day politics can be traced back to the 1994 midterm campaign and Newt Gingrich’s “Contract with America” agenda plan, which, basically, was “Clinton bad, Democrats suck, we won’t do anything they want, nah nah 😝”. Every Congress and Administration since has been increasingly partisan and increasingly stubborn.

Lots of people just don't understand the game.

I “understand the game” just fine. I stand by my original post that if it was such a strategic investment, we would have annexed it after WW2 when we could have better used it as a North Atlantic bulwark against the Soviet Union while obtaining its natural resources.

It’s a bit late now just because it has rare earth minerals.

the rare earth minerals are infinitely more valuable today than they were in 1945. It's a MAJOR strategic issue.

Article on why Trump wants Greenland, why it's a good idea for geopolitical and resource reasons, and also describes how it's not even the first time we tried to acquire it.

Lots of people just don't understand the game.

Ah. And what happens in your game when Greenland does not wish to give up its freedom to be part of America?

I already explained this. Ultimately, we only have the freedom we can defend. Greenland has no freedom and cannot defend anything.

But it won't come to that. There are lots of levers to pull.

That's a non answer. The people of Greenland have consistently stated they wish to have autonomy and freedom (hence the referendum for self governance from Denmark in 2008). Trump wants to annex Greenland, removing autonomy and freedom. So what happens when they refuse?

Guys I know you are sad about losing the "Orcs orcs kill the orcs watch orc die snuff film" and "Putin looks unwell he will die any minute" and "Ukranian counter-offensive will win war any day now" thread. But this is about Greenland, an island that screams "I should be American" just by its very nature. World's biggest and best island. It fits in so well with America's brand, with Trumps brand. Some things just make sense.

One day, I really hope all of you Americans who have been so expertly and decisively fooled will wake up and realise how badly you've been played by people who don't give a shit about you. I'm not going to hold my breath.

Like I said, an arrangement can be made. It's 57,000 people - a mid-sized town in the US. They'll always be dependent on somebody else, no matter what they say. They know it, we all know it. I really doubt there will be any bullets flying. Luckily for them they have a lot to offer in exchange for the dependency.

But what if they say no? You keep hedging. What happens if they say no to Trump, and wish to keep all of those lovely valuable minerals to themselves?

If they keep saying no... you say this like the USA hasn't done it before. Like I said earlier, this country's very experienced in this area.

I'm actually confused now whether you're joking or being serious; I assumed you were joking before but now I'm not so sure anymore 🤨

I hope Denmark invokes Article 5 if the US invades Greenland. I'm joking btw.

I know the difference between the cost of resources and when I'm treated like shit. And only one particular side kept treating me that way, so I'm fine with how things turned out. If you're the expert, read the room and bring the thread back to joking about the greenland situation.

More land is always nice, as the old adage goes "they're not making more of it." Even if it's not for sale exactly, certain types of deals can always be made regarding usage and whatnot

Timeline:

-Trump expresses interest in buying Greenland
-Denmark scoffs, refuses
-Greenland’s prime minister declares interest in independence from Denmark
-Trump sends representatives to Greenland

That’s where we’re at, as of an hour ago.

I for one would welcome Greenland and its peoples into the world’s greatest nation. Make it a territory. Give each Greenland citizen a large cash payout. Provide new job opportunities in energy and infrastructure. Free relocation to the continental US if that’s their preference.
This is good, Greenland is 3x the size of Alaska and larger than South America!

Babylon Bee: Trump to acquire Greenland, rename to Iceland

Trump: "There's a lot of ice, a lot of ice. And it always made sense. I go there and I see very little green. No golf courses at all. And the people! The people want it. They think it's great."

-Iceland has refused to comment

Indeed. And it's a young island. Strong island. Amazing with the cyber. Like Barron it will just keep growing bigger and bigger. He's going to need an island that grows with him.

The island seems to be growing with him, and if there's another Ice Age?? It will be YUGE!

To be fait to the AI, Barron really is freakishly tall; 6'7" (200.67 cm). I guess native Greenlanders would look like Hobbits to him.

I was trying to get it to make him bigger and bigger. But it really didn't want to serve me up a kaiju sized Barron. And it would start replacing him with the Donald or some kind of hybrid... and don't even get me started about the term "Greenland" which caused it to give the locals literal green skin, and sometimes some kind of Pixar fur like they were straight out of Monster's Inc.

There wasn't much of that in that thread. It was more about looking at escalations and imperialist propaganda tactics, dispelling disinformation like the biolabs, and having fun with things like the satanic super soldiers. Discussing stats, and ratios like Ruscist casualties rounding up to 40:1(39.6/1) casualties/apcs now.
