That's one thing I'm kind of glad I didn't do much of in retrospect. Like 95% of my digital Xbox games were 'free' Games with Gold 360 titles, or the odd arcade title I might have grabbed for a couple dollars( something like Ms. Pacman or Galaga and I've since double dipped those titles on Steam). I don't have much money tied up on my Microsoft/Xbox account so it's pretty easy for me to walk away from. Granted, I've got like $50 credit sitting there but I may just end up using that in the Windows store on a play anywhere title for my Legion Go.It is more like locking yourself in it. Especially on Xbox, where there has been BC back to the 360 on Xbox One. In a way, as soon as you started investing in XBLA/digital games, and making friends on Xbox back during the 360 days, you made the choice to invest in that ecosystem. And there never was a point where choosing to invest in PS (and starting from zero) made much sense, since you already had all of this stuff accumulated on Xbox. Works the same way for PS players now that PS5 has full PS4 BC. Why even buy an Xbox ?
A lot of people do not have/do not want to spend the money to buy both PS/Xbox consoles. These have always been highly redundant, especially starting the PS360 era, consoles take a lot of place too etc...
By contrast, I started doing digital moreso with PS4( as a side effect of getting into PC gaming last gen, so I got used to the idea of buying digital whereas before I was mostly a physical or bust kind of gamer) and have much more money tied in the PSN ecosystem on various exclusives, which makes it much harder to walk away from ( I currently don't have a modern PS console but I'm going to grab a PS5/Pro soon-ish as much for continued access to my PS4 digial backlog as for anything current). So there is definitely some merit in what Phi Spencer said last year about losing the gen when everyone was building digital libraries.
