Indiana Jones and the Great Circle - Releasing December 9th for Xbox / PC / Game Pass - PS5 Spring 2025

Yeah its absolutely a loss of face. They even announced the PS5 version as an encore during the show. When he hints at another bonus, you'd think it will have an extra, or perhaps a demo shadow drop. But its a fucking PS5 version lol. He announced it as some sort of a victory.

This is being announced with a straight face by the same person who internally wanted to buy the entire videogame market, and wanted to lock games on his platform. In the end its all business, but you can see how easy they can sway.

Phil answers to the CEO and probably has very little say in this.

I doubt he was the one that made the initiative to do it.

The problem is Phil made it a big deal when they told Bethesda to axe all development on PS5 Starfield and when they paid Disney for exclusivity for Indiana Jones.

Money they utterly wasted because in the time since they paid that money for exclusivity, they imploded so bad they have no choice but to go multiplatform.
Oh yeah not disputing that. I just don’t find it surprising that Microsoft said “fuck that we need return on investment right now“.

Whatever Phil says going forward will be viewed as meaningless because even if he tells the truth he could be overridden by MS at any point

Now the next move is not buying anything from Xbox till they bring us Halo, Gears, Forza and Flight Simulator

bruh... gathering the reactions online.... it seems this was BRUTAL for the Xbox community (not only your influencers but random Xbox fans).

people keep calling out Phil.

with what face is Phil going to talk to the Xbox fans, what spin or excuse is he going to use?.

They are so done.

Not a XBOX fan, but it’s not Phil Spencer’s fault. I am sure he would like to keep all games exclusive, but if corporate management makes these decisions, there is nothing he can do about it. Pretty sure he is also very unhappy with recent developments and also worried about the future.

I understand the disney licensing. With the mess they are going through they probably paid Microsoft to break their exclusivity contract because they need as many eyes as possible on their IP right now. They are drowning worse than xbox.

But I don't get why starfield wasn't announced. Upset that fh5 wasn't announced too but the user who said its probably too late for licensing is right I guess.

FH5 would have been such a good fit for ps5.

It is never nor has it ever been Phil’s fault, let’s keep the cult of personality going :p.

Good lord, give it up.

MS are a third party publisher on playstation and want to actually sell games.

What the hell does that have to do with disney, they've already been paid a hefty sum for it to skip PlayStation.

As for them being worse than Xbox, pretty sure they just released an absolute banger.

When was the last time Xbox did that.

I don't get the later release for the PS5 version. Very obviously it's going to actually sell better on that platform than Xbox, so why delay it? We know irs coming soooo.....weird choice announcing the PS5 version but also delaying it 5 months. At this stage....why bother?

Doubt this.

Phil Spencer has won a ton of awards and is considered a visionary.

5 yrs from now we will be laughing we lost our shit on this.

If going 3rd party was his intention, he definitely is a visionary.
Best decision ever made for Xbox, because otherwise is a dead end.

Feels like a game 10-15 years too late and looks quite medicore. Many fans have aged out in their 50s and 60s, perhaps just the people in their 40s left that are in or out of gaming circles that were once captivated by the films.

Would be interesting to see how this game came about, was it a result of some higher ups wanting to make an exclusive and forced this one through.

They are trying to hold on to as many Xbox diehards as they can. In this very thread you have people now handwaving that the game is coming to PS5 because — at least they don’t need to wait to play it. It’s typical Xbox fanboy nonsense but MS know what they are doing.

Considered a visionary by whom? What's his vision? To make the xbox brand increasingly irrelevant? To spend a hundred billion dollars and (thus far) have next to nothing to show for it? What a visionary!

I can’t tell if you’re asking this or this is pasted from somewhere else but who really cares where it was announced. Personally I am glad it was announced so we don’t have to rely on rumors and shit from “insiders”.
It's a copy and paste from another user's post on a different forum. He does it a lot lol.

The game looks like such a perfect Indy Jones game and love the fact that we're getting a big AAA game just before Christmas. Looking forward to playing this over the Christmas period with a few swift halves and whiskey's

It’s important to have Sony + Nintendo in good shape.

Else they will sell out to Google/ Meta etc.

That would be the real headache for MS.

I'm 46 so I'm definitely part of the target audience for this, but they've failed to make Indy relevant for modern audiences( Gen Z doesn't care to watch an 80 year old Harrison Ford swinging around with his Fendora. Both the actor and character are relics of a prior generation of pop culture). The last film did the IP no favors.

Just release it on all platforms. No one is buying an Xbox due to a 6 month or whatever exclusive period.
That's not the point, Gamepass is not Xbox exclusive, the console is only one way to access Gamepass there are many others.

Bringing games to other platforms is needed to bring in more revenue to safeguard Gamepass and grow it to a more than sustainable level. The only way to do that is to give Gamepass subscribers the VIP experience. You come in for free get a glass of bubbly and seats in the VIP area, the other platforms wait in line, pay to get in and stand at the bar 😅

Dont act dumb.

Everyone knows that is the priority. Phil Spencer also said those bigger companies are actual competitors.
Oh, I believe going 3rd party was part of the plan ever since he took over from Mattrick.

But claiming he was intentionally boosting Playstation and Nintendo success is delulu.

"Modern audiences" is just a buzzword, bro, that woke ppl use to describe why game pushes their agenda, in reality modern audience is like unicorn rich high status tall and goodlooking male- women know he is out there and hope to pin him down but he has such a plethora of options that he would be stupid to contain himself to just one, tldr he keeps them in rotation w/o actually commiting to any :p

Going 3rd party wasn’t the plan.

Becoming big game developer is.

To make numbers work without getting Google/ Amazon etc involved required some creative thinking on their part.

It also helped them secure Acti-Blizz.

Xbox is getting more and more funding simply cause their plan is working.

I have a bad feeling about the fact that they're still not comfortable showing anything but random 2-second snippets of actual gameplay, in which the whipping and combat looks janky as fuck.

Okay, this is just sad now.

He’s the head of the entire Xbox division. Any strategic moves made by the division would have his input, guidance and his blessing.

Some of you have to come to terms with the reality that he is not Good Guy Phil. Never has been. He’s a corporate douchebag - just like the rest of them, who only cares about profits. He doesn’t give a shit about you. He’ll be very happy with the massive pay check and dividends he gets from this.

Ever since Phil took over, I was convinced he was put in place to oversee the transition to 3rd party, with the off-chance that they magically made a comeback this gen somehow.

There was no way that Xbox wasn't going to die after the XBO reveal, because Xbox as a brand wasn't strong enough to make a comeback and clearly they aren't.

We could all asume this or that, but lets check that 5min interview right after phil took the job of "head of xbox":

april 2014 btw :p
Edit: time wasnt merciful for phil, back then he looked like christian bale in american psycho, nowadays just a flabby michelin man without an ounce of testosterone :p

That is what 10years of constant failures does to a man :messenger_astonished:

I really don't understand the problem with this strategy? They as a division will make more money which will strengthen Gamepass and the Xbox brand. Console sales are not their priority anymore (most are sold for a loss for many years, why do you think PS5 hasn't seen a price drop?). Xbox is a brand not a console, when people start realising that the strategy becomes very clear.

Are you talking to me? I am not a Xbox fan, never owned one and I do t even like him, but I just think he has less power in corporate decisions than some people think.
