It's funny how Troy "unsufferable egomaniac" Barker says, around 0.30 of the date reveal trailer, "never would have guessed that after all this years i'll be the one to wear the hat".
Could have said : "i'll be the one who mocap and imitate the real incarnation of Indy, Harrison Ford, because he doesn't care to do it himself", but he choose to phrase it in a way that implies he's taking over the mantle from the Ford...

We could all asume this or that, but lets check that 5min interview right after phil took the job of "head of xbox":

april 2014 btw :p
Edit: time wasnt merciful for phil, back then he looked like christian bale in american psycho, nowadays just a flabby michelin man without an ounce of testosterone :p

That is what 10years of constant failures does to a man :messenger_astonished:

Well, it's not like I didn't say it back in 2020, before this gen started (on my old account, but couldn't go back much further, been saying it much longer ago):
GamePass is all the more reason for MS to go 3rd party, though. 😶

I don't get the later release for the PS5 version. Very obviously it's going to actually sell better on that platform than Xbox, so why delay it? We know irs coming soooo.....weird choice announcing the PS5 version but also delaying it 5 months. At this stage....why bother?
- They wanted to release it on the same day.
- PS5 version started late, so it requires a few more months
- Avowed isn't ready to release this quarter.
- So they can't delay Indiana Jones for a simultaneous launch on PlayStation and Xbox.
- Besides, they had announced Indiana Jones as an Xbox launch exclusive, so would have been another issue to walk back on that promise.

I'm proud to announce that I will be right there with you to pump this game as a 11/10 masterpiece in the Xbox/PC OT, and then I'll be right beside you shitting on it in Sping 2025 in the PS5 release OT.

Don't worry, I got your back.

I really don't understand the problem with this strategy? They as a division will make more money which will strengthen Gamepass and the Xbox brand. Console sales are not their priority anymore (most are sold for a loss for many years, why do you think PS5 hasn't seen a price drop?). Xbox is a brand not a console, when people start realising that the strategy becomes very clear.

Oh, there's nothing wrong with the strategy if you've given up the console space completely.

Which, whether hardcore Xbox fans want to admit it or not, is an abject failure in terms of the hardware they support.

Are you talking to me? I am not a Xbox fan, never owned one and I do t even like him, but I just think he has less power in corporate decisions than some people think.

Which is an insane position to take.

Any other company, any other man, and everyone would rightly conclude he's a big part of the company's strategy.

Somebody with some time and inclination should really redo that Obama meme with him giving himself the award and replace it with Phil

As long as the hardware is supported and games are available what's the problem? The issue is not Xbox fans it's the PS fanatics who claim this as some sort of victory for PS instead of accepting it as a plus for their console.

Welp. Looks like he's now in the

Hopefully the game is good.

I've always liked Indiana Jones, even if the last two movies weren't super great(I did enjoy the last one more than Crystal Skull, though).

It'll be interesting to see what their position is going forward. I would say that Avowed, Hellblade and Starfield are next up. I wouldn't be surprised if Avowed gets a Summer PS5 version at TGAs or something.

Hard to deny their direction now, though. But they have to make money and that $80+ billion has to be recouped.

I thought they would announce PS5 version way later or just atleast announce it quietly after gamescom was over but they did a one more thing during the show? If you needed any more confirmation that Microsoft have totally given up on the xbox as a console, then this was it. I don't think they had much choice though. Xbox hardware sales have completely collapsed.

Lmao "willfully locked".

Dude acts like they held him at gunpoint and forced him to stick with only Xbox all these years.

Someone should tell him there's a whole other world out there, full of choices and free of drama.

Really strange thing to say. Obviously he and others have bought into the Xbox ecosystem and now they feel betrayed by this stuff, but acting like they were forced into it is just bizarre.

I genuinely don’t get why this is a big deal to any Xbox player? They still get to play the game, and on the machine they chose, and on release day.

There are better things to throw hissy fits over!

It is more like locking yourself in it. Especially on Xbox, where there has been BC back to the 360 on Xbox One. In a way, as soon as you started investing in XBLA/digital games, and making friends on Xbox back during the 360 days, you made the choice to invest in that ecosystem. And there never was a point where choosing to invest in PS (and starting from zero) made much sense, since you already had all of this stuff accumulated on Xbox. Works the same way for PS players now that PS5 has full PS4 BC. Why even buy an Xbox ?

A lot of people do not have/do not want to spend the money to buy both PS/Xbox consoles. These have always been highly redundant, especially starting the PS360 era, consoles take a lot of place too etc...

For many, many years, Xbox fans would crow over every announcement, every piece of information, and every news story that placed their box ahead of Sony's. Especially around the time of the XSX's launch.

Following the logic that they themselves employed about their console, the fact that major first party Microsoft games are now going to be on Playstation is a massive, heroic failure on the part of everyone at Xbox.

If the tables had been turned, Xbox fans would be crowing (again) about how their box was doing better because Sony were having to put their games on it.

Exactly. I think most people understand this. Just weird to pretend buying into an ecosystem isn't voluntary.

I've said it before, I'll say it again - it's because of the way that Xbox manages (and has managed) their relationship with their fans/customers.

They've been running it using cult brand strategies since Phil Spencer took over.

Those who are vulnerable/susceptible got sucked in, believed every word they said, put their necks on the line and basically worked as an extension of their marketing team (some are still doing this, even today, even in this thread, which is crazy to see). So now it's personal, they feel betrayed. This fall-out isn't going to be pretty.

Not a XBOX fan, but it’s not Phil Spencer’s fault. I am sure he would like to keep all games exclusive, but if corporate management makes these decisions, there is nothing he can do about it. Pretty sure he is also very unhappy with recent developments and also worried about the future.
He has been head of software or Xbox as a whole for 15+ years. At some point he needs to be responsible for its failures.

I told people this right after it happened, my suspicions were confirmed after reading the Verge interview with Phil Spencer right after it happened

This was the question
You mentioned that Starfield and Indiana Jones aren’t part of the four despite rumors, but will those ever come to PS5? Can you rule that out?

This was the answer
I don’t think we should as an industry ever rule out a game going to any other platform. We’re focused on these four games and learning from the experience.

He has been telling people what is going on for a while now, they just didn't want to listen.
