Kingdom Come: Deliverance II ⊰♖|OT|♖⊱ Stop! Or My Henry Will Swing His Sword!

I had a pretty rough first 12 hours, not exactly to the point of frustration as slimysnake but a few tips helped.

Do the first blacksmith quest, find the cart. You can go back to the old woman and do pavlenas quest in full. Then go to the miller and start his quest. Thatll teach you sneaking around and unarmed fighting.
Then go find your dog.
Then do tomcat and the voidvode quest.
After these you'll have well over a thousand groschen, a horse, a few places to sleep, and tons of good gear.
I had to savescum and fight tomcat 20+ times to get an edge and finally win, but he's way harder than most enemies and now I'm sailing through combat.

I think the games biggest issue is that combat is quite complex, with tons of rules, but at the start of the game you don't get any opportunities to practice so when you suddenly end up in a fight you're all thumbs and trying to remember which side your sword should be relative to theirs to do certain moves.
I've been menu save scumming a lot which helped take some of the pressure off.

20 hours in I have the game totally under control, if I get pasted in a fight it's usually now because they're much stronger than me and I need to change my strategy.

The writing is fucking incredible and all the side quests so far have been amazing.

Yeah early game is tough in this, but after like 15 hours it will become a smooth sailing and well worth it

Just fought Tomcat to get the master strike and he kills me in two hits

Something I realized before I got the master strike, is to NOT counter after a perfect block, that just leads to the infinite loop of parries from you and the enemy.

DONT strike first though, high chance of getting hit if they're much stronger. What you should do is get the perfect block off the green shield symbol, wait for the blue counter symbol to disappear, THEN swing.

For some reason that's how I was able to get the most hits in before getting the master strike

I mean, I've played through Morrowind 3 times (incl. addons) without any guides (YT wasn't even a thing back in 2002) and I know how slow the game can be. I literally threw fireballs at a wall for hours just to get better at destruction magick, collected all artifacts, stole every valuable stuff I knew where to find from all the caves etc. before even starting the main quest proper during second playthrough just so that I don't have to deal with a lot of the stuff from the 1st playthrough and by the end I was a master of every house and a guild in the game, ma dudes:messenger_beaming:

The main issue I have is with the combat, but... I'll make sure to try and get better at it. Is the game better with the controller or should I switch to MK+Mice?

I play with keyboard/mouse (the first one and this one). So cannot really tell if controller is better....but its definitely very good playable with keyboard/mouse.

Just play what you enjoy more I guess.

Im playing with controller and its really good. Altho you cant change it ingame, they even have a good deadzone and aim curve on the controller by default.

BTW, I just saw that Steam Workshop (modding) for this game is going to be added soon.

I usually play the majority of my games with an Xbox Elite 2 controller, but this game flows really good with mouse and keyboard. I'd recommend that.

Anyway, huge KCD1 fan here, and I still thought the intro was a little bit too long (because I was really eager to jump in and do the sandbox experience). A lot of people loved it though, so idk.

How family friendly is this game? Los of gore, swearing, and nudity? I'm guessing its Witcher3 level stuff so the answer is "all of the above" but I"m curious. Never really heard much about this series.

I wouldnt play that in front of young kids. There is lots of swearing. Gore is debatable (at least here on gaf). :messenger_winking_tongue: Nudity is there, yep....but could and should be more imho. :messenger_savoring:

I kind off hate that master strike is given only to swords, and the other weapons don't get anything to make combat more engaging.
Other weapons still have combos, plus you can switch the weapons up. Sword is for people who want to engage with the combat system, maces axes etc are for people who are not so into it and mostly want to just bash heads.

Here's an odd thing I discovered early if anyone is new, struggling for cash and doesn't mind something a little cheesy. Very mild spoiler so I'll speak loosely. There's a side quest with a couple that get into trouble with some louts who take things to far - one ends up dead. This leaves an empty house in the town with ladder access from the side and zero risk of being caught using it. You can squat there for free, use the drying rack and use the stash as your own - it'll even magically generate a few trinkets every few days. Money making part - after sleeping in the unowned bed until morning, a lot of the time I'd go out to the lane and find abandoned horses, sometimes 3 at a time, and often really good quality ones. Really simple and risk-free to just hop on and fast travel to the horse black market guy in the camp for decent money and no chance of upset to townsfolk as horses vanish.
I'm currently squatting this house too, and was also surprised to find saddled horses in front of it in the mornings.
This quest you mentioned is really brutal. 4 people ended up dead in my game, and I had nothing to do with it (directly).
The death that hit me most was the old hag's suicide. Maybe I could have prevented it, but I made a choice and stand by it.
Later on, I saw 2 bodies (Pavlena and Straw) dangling from this tree at the village, guess the bailiff hanged them both for murder.
Now I have 2 houses to attend to :messenger_smiling_horns:

Good work on the property tycoon front, lol, but Damn... DAMN... it's insane just how differently things can turn out in this game. I found someone dangling from a tree after I gave them bad advice early on. I'd forgotten all about it but then we rode past and I checked it. Felt really shitty.

So 40 hours in and I just got to the second map. How much more game do I have left? Is the second map equally dense in terms of content?

In the stat screen, does anyone have a positive value for "Money won at dice"? I've won many more times than I've lost, and I know those wins were in higher-stakes games than the early losses. I'm wondering if it the stat is bugged.

If we meet someone full decked in armour and wearing a sword, we shall assume they are good with sword and can use master strike against us. Avoid attacking from the opposite of their guard and don't riposte/counter because our guard position after parrying was actually perfect for getting masterstriked by the opponent (we can use this against npc after learning masterstrike)

About trading parry and riposte, it's intended to show swordsmanship and who slips first. (Depends of the enemy "level" Good fighter might goes in till 10-12 trade) If you're confident the enemy can't master strike just trading it till their stamina gone and we can go ham when their defense finally down

Game is pretty much one of the finest RPGs ever made. I finished the main story yesterday and it was so satisfying as fuck. So many twists and turns and epic moments. I don't understand how they created this with a small budget; the developers are geniuses. It ran amazingly well on the base PS5 on performance mode and I never had any serious problems. I am still thinking about the game after beating it. One of the signs that what I played was truly memorable. Almost 100 hours of time invested and none of the content felt like forced or padded. I will definitely buy the DLC now and support Warhorse. I left KCD1 halfway because the performance was terrible and I really hope they remake that game or at least give us a PS5 patch.

Anyone have NPCs missing in cut scenes? They're there in voice only, the camera frames a void where they should be but their model isn't present.

I've had stuff like Hans going to bed and the game still assumes he's leaning against the wall and just frames he previous place, but this is different, it's main story cutscenes with an invisible character and a camera panning around following their movements.

Not that issue but I've had a few cutscenes where the camera is like inside a wall for some shots

I had that a few times. I think it was from me skipping dialogue after I read the subtitles, and the character needed to move from where he was to where he should be for the next line, but the movement never occurred.

I beat the game on Saturday, and I still played it the past 3 days. Clearing out bandit camps/going Medieval Agent 47 on unsuspecting towns (then re-loading)/STILL finding unique NPCs that have stories to tell or minor tasks to do/leveling up stats/building the most busted dice set I can...

Easily one of my favorite games of all time. I wish I could play it again for the first time 😪

Finished a sidequest and assumed the characters would go on their separate ways. One of them said they'll have supplies for the others journey and they walked in the same direction. I followed them for about 10 minutes back to town and there was a voiced scene where the townspeople gave the person a horse and wished them well. That character then rode into another town and sat on a bench and said time for a break. I stopped then, but I thought that was amazing, also an amazing waste of time for me. A lot of work by the dev that only maybe 1-5 people would ever see. Makes me wonder what else they put into the game.

Only thing keeping me going is knowing I have most of the first game to experience still, cause yeah nothing else scratches this itch.

Wow I really need to follow NPC's more, that's incredible! When the stealth tutorial told me to watch their daily patterns to know when to go stealin I knew it was a deep system but not THAT deep

It's also difficult to develop. NPC's have daily routines that get broken up by your actions like killing a family member or from a quest, all while time passes. Then they have to cut back somewhere into their routine which can't be the same anymore.

Exactly, the insane amount of interworking systems warhorse put in this game is wild.

God I love immersive sims.

It's my friday and I'm off so I'm finishing this game tonight!!! Only 2 more quests left in the second zone besides the MSQ

Damn, I murdered a tailor and stole his keys. Went to his shop at night and opened a box there. Mustve been 2k worth of clothes in there...
But keep at least one tailor alive...where you can sell that stuff. :messenger_winking:

Whats a bit annoying that these traders always have so few coins. At least on the first map none of these traders have more than 380 coins. I have to store so many stuff and wait for them resetting. But on the other hand there seems to be no real endgame goldsink anyway. Might be fine with my 6k coins right now till the end of the game.
In the first game there was this "rebuild a burned down village"-DLC, which was really a nice idea to get rid of yr wealth.

Good video that goes into difference in design between KCD and lot of other modern western open world games
Yes the day i did a sidequest as freakin simple as the one you have to kill some wolves that are killing the goats from a shepherd i realized it's going to be impossible to see all content without using guides and checking google on each quest, and that's cool:

I kinda fucked up on that quest, i said i'd take his dumb goat Ignatius he talked me about as a bait and i did, i went uphill and i left the carrot the shepherd gave me to have Ignatius busy while the wolves kill him, but when i turned back Ignatius had stopped following me, so i went to search him, sadly i forgot to pick the carrot back and when i tried to find it i just couldn't.

So i tried to talk to the shepherd to see if he could give me another carrot, but it gave me the option to lie and i thought "fuck it, hopefully nobody realizes", and got my coins for my hard job.

Then days later, on the tavern i asked for rumours and i was told the shepherd was having problems again with the wolves, i went and he was angry at me, and he asked me to go for the wolves and have a proof of their death this time (the ears)

I thought "wow cool that's some nice reactivity/ramification work"

BUT, days after exploring somewhere else, i found a shepherd that told me he lost a goat in the forest, a goat he bought and got scammed with because it was really stupid, i was thinking "nah it's not possible right?" but yes, there was my man Ignatius being attacked by wolves, took me 15 mins to guide him back to the farm but finally he's free.

That goat has more charisma than every NPC i've met in Avowed lmao, and to think it could all have ended if i just used him as a bait =')

Any other game would have treated this quest as a marker in the map to kill some wolves and that's it, crazy difference.

Theres a mod for that to make traders richer.
