Imagine some brigands roll up on you and you're all "HANG ON GUYS LEMME PUT ON ALL MY ARMOUR".

I'd say that's working as intended for the better.
Yeah except I don't complain about getting jumped in the forest but when I go from having a civilized conversation in the city with civilian clothed people to then get attacked and my NPC allies can get dressed for battle while I'm stuck in plain clothes.

It sounds like a fucked up thing to say, but I really enjoy that sexual assault is consistently acknowledged in the world. I just got an dopamine rush when I realized I was hunting down a bunch of rapist murderers. I feel like it's a big no no to ever point that out in most other games, even though it is 100% realistic

It's so easy to get distracted in this game. You think you are gonna go do a quest but then you find other stuff to do. Like I'm gonna go do this and 5 hours later you have done everything but that. And those 5 hours were fun. Also just how gorgeous this game is. Lots of it is just open grassy fields but it's so beautiful just to look at. Also new twitch drops going on. Nice.

Alright, I am back. I took some time off to play FF7 Rebirth but then they forced me to play as a cat push boxes around for 2 hours so here I am back. Back picking flowers and brewing potions.

this time I decided to play for an extended period of time without coming in here to bitch. I listened to all the advice and brewed potions to sell, and save, and even if i did end up losing half an hour or progress because of some dumb shit like dying to wolves or falling and bleeding to death, i decided to power through and played for another 5 hours just trying to level up and do side quests like going to tomcat to learn and rescuing the nomad chick and her boyfriend.

After not getting anywhere with just selling potions, and still getting fucked in combat, i decided to look up an online tutorial which showed me where to find treasure and books to sell, an axe thats better than the one i have, my horse, and some other valuable items that I finally felt made me strong.

I died 20 minutes later and lost all my progress.

I am now almost 13 hours in. Still stuck in the opening area and cant win any 2v1 fights. Fights against shield guys. Cant beat tomcat who kills me in two hits. I can parry all night, and they parry it right back. i counted and in one fight my parry was parried 8 consecutive times. It's ridiculous. Like wtf is the point?

They say that the game will save after every quest update. Nope. I just handed Marika some meds for her bf and the game did not save. I just got my fucking horse back. And the game did not save. i had like 10 savior snhapps in my inventory but i was like the game typically saves so maybe it shouldve saved after this side quest update. nope. of course i ran into some guys who killed me in 3 hits after just eating my parries.

Lastly, and this is is just retarded. Some camps dont have fast travel points. The herbalist in the opening doesnt have a fast travel point. the nomad camp doesnt have a fast travel point. the mariko area doesnt have a fast travel point so i have to drag my ass around every time there is a quest update. This is just bad game design. It's not a sim. It's just poorly directed. I just saw a video they themselves sponsored on youtube that shows how a lot of the game's combat systems are not properly relayed to the users. Especially the parry. Maybe next time hire better game designers who are able to understand their own combat system.

Just let it go, game is not for you. In my 60+ hours i only lost like a 5 min save one time and i only used save potions for like 2 or 3 times max. I have 30 in my inventory...

Also nomad camp has a fast travel point you probably just doesnt explored it yet. Im not even gathering herbs and brewing potions anymore, because im drowning in groschen, have great gear and combat is piss easy

This is one of the best/funniest/still making great points reviews I have ever seen, wtf? I never heard of this channel. It is so good I feel like it deserves its own thread.

Very good video, I'll keep an eye on that channel. Thanks for sharing.

If you're really desperate for a save and haven't slept in one of your beds, reached an important story progression point or used save schnapps then just use Save & Exit then load it back up again. Free save point for minor inconvenience.

Press a button when shield is green, then press other button. Repeat. Use to beat a bandit. Ask your dog to help if you're struggling, while distracted you can get in free hits. Wear bandit's gear. Beat better bandits, take their shit to sell and wear and repair. Go back to Tomcat with good protection and easily beat him tanking his hits if needed.

Ask struggler_guts struggler_guts - it's important to make sure you spend your perk points.

I went back to the camp where we were ambushed right at the start. There were six bandits and I killed them all in combat. It took quite a while and it was brutal, but I killed them.

Am I missing something or is there nothing here, aside the three graves? Henry doesn't even comment when you stand next to them. There's no special loot either.

This is pretty disappointing.

Here's an odd thing I discovered early if anyone is new, struggling for cash and doesn't mind something a little cheesy. Very mild spoiler so I'll speak loosely. There's a side quest with a couple that get into trouble with some louts who take things to far - one ends up dead. This leaves an empty house in the town with ladder access from the side and zero risk of being caught using it. You can squat there for free, use the drying rack and use the stash as your own - it'll even magically generate a few trinkets every few days. Money making part - after sleeping in the unowned bed until morning, a lot of the time I'd go out to the lane and find abandoned horses, sometimes 3 at a time, and often really good quality ones. Really simple and risk-free to just hop on and fast travel to the horse black market guy in the camp for decent money and no chance of upset to townsfolk as horses vanish.

The perpetrators are long gone. I thought my Henry commented but maybe misremembering. I know I went in the cave and it said I was trespassing! There is mention of what happened to you and your mates talking to people in the area, one person in particular who witnessed what went down. Doesn't amount to anything but does add a little something I thought.

The bandits you find there aren't the ones that did it, just rando bandits like anywhere else making use of the camp afaik. They will get replaced after time - I slept in their bed after slaughtering them and woke to having to kill them all again the next morning, or rather their generated replacements.

After 50 hours (well, actually long before that) the game is basically too easy.. That's what worries many of us here. And yet here you are with your super-weird struggles in the beginning of a full-blooded RPG.

You can use save and quit, and then just press continue to save when ever you want with minimal delay.

In order to get good at anything in the game you have to level up first by doing it repeatedly in training - with Combat you just have to face Tomcat over and over - same with pickpocketing/knocking people out/lockpicking (do this at the millers) - you basically just repeat the action in training and get proficient at it. You start out completely sucking at everything and then feel like you’re actually super powerful after getting the hang of it

Should i skip 1 and play this, or just play 1?
I did, I just watched a recap for the 1st game online. Sure some of the intricate details may be lost on me but I understand the overarching story. Plus it kinda refers back to the first game through cutscenes early on to fill you in as well.

People who don't play the first game and enjoy the second one should go back to play it after. Sure the mechanics are bit less refined, but graphically (on PC 60fps) it completely holds up, and the story, quests and immersion are great. Plus you get to experience Henry's "origin story" and building of his friendship with Hans and other great characters. Hanush alone is worth the price of admission.

Dont get me wrong...its awesome. So much intrigue, betray, schemes, surprises....thats how you do stories! :messenger_ok:

I'm definitely going to try 1 again, I know I won't be satisfied when I finish 2.

I think I'll do a bit of a palette cleanser with monster hunter, see if avowed is any good, then get back to 1 OH, with mods!

That being said, it would be awesome if Warhorse would go back to the first one and make a proper remaster adding all the improvements of the sequel

The first one is still a masterpiece and holds up very good imho, with very nice quests and systems, and its smaller scope really digs deep into the medieval simulation.

It would be a shame to miss it imho, but I agree that people risk burning out by playing the two back to back. I think it's ok to start by the 2 but the 1 definitely should be played down the line, and going in already knowing the IP and the more refined second game could help sanding off the rough edges of the first.

Nomad camp has one if you go further in (its bigger than you think).

Does the first one have a similar crime/theft system? Like will people go looking through their stuff if they see their door open, and know it's me if I had just come walking out?

Tag, you're it.
What a game, the first one was good but you could tell the systems weren't quite on point yet. With this one, Warhorse gave it their all and it paid off. The world is so cool to explore with beautiful vistas everywhere, cool and fun encounters, well written quests and I hope every RPG studio takes notes from them. Crazy to think it all started with a Kickstarter!

It's not perfect for sure, the quest "From whom the bells tolls" has been a pain in the ass for me and I hope I won't have to carry any bags anymore :messenger_grinning_sweat: But it's a very small price to paid for an otherwise amazing game. They also improved SO MUCH on the production value it's honestly crazy the step up they did between the 2 games. So much that I can't wait to see KCD3. It's gonna be incredible.

Also, the CryEngine is doing wonders, I hope more studios are keen to use it in the futur. A few screenshots (experimental with Reshade and a few graphics mods):

THIS is how you make an RPG. It's refreshing to see a studio that can still develop a game of this magnitude.

Yeah, I found it. I had gone in from the side and despite doing almost the entire Marika quest, the fast travel point didnt trigger because the entrance is on the other side. Bizarre.

I started doing this. Thanks, much more manageble even if random encounters with wolves and bandits can really fuck up a run. Just fought Tomcat to get the master strike and he kills me in two hits. This after following a guide to get armor and a knight sword. I am now 16 hours in, have decent gear and still cant beat people.

Just let it go, game is not for you.

Nah man, I paid good money for this game. I think it's important to highlight the design choices, combat mechanics and especially save mechanics in a game so highly praised by both critics and gamers alike. I find it more interesting to discuss gameplay systems on a message board than all the woke and anti-woke nonsense that dominates the gaming discourse nowadays.

The problem with savior schnapps is that belladona is virtually impossible to find in the opening area. i googled it and found some right outside the first town but only got around 10 total. And they dont respawn. I have hundreds of herbs but cannot for the life of me find anymore belladonas. Leaving me with a finite number of saves which i feel pressured to hold on too. nomad camp fast travel only unlocks if you enter from the main gate which is stupid for a systems driven game like this. If i am doing quests in the camp, it should automatically assume im in the fucking camp.

My man, getting the savior potions is so easy, just buy them in Trosky, I have like 30 in my inventory. If you dont want to make them or dont find ingredients, just buy many, they are so cheap. And if you dont have money, steal them, or steal money from chests or people to buy them. I really recommend you to invest your skill points into stealing and stealth, you'll get anything you need very quick

I am reading your complaints and to me it just show that you don't understand how to play the game, plain and simple

you want me to steal? Dude I literally get lashed in public for simply wandering into someone's house. you want me to go through their houses stealing?

and no, they are not cheap in the early game. 20 dollars is a lot of money. i make money by selling chamomile and i get 20 dollars for selling 5 of them.

tried that. you need lockpicks and not only are they expensive, the lockpick mini game is literally retarded. i quit trying to steal after wasting 3 lockpicks on something.

the game just loves to punish you for everything. ive been following everyone's advice in this thread and on youtube so if ive wasted the last 16 hours or not learned the game's core systems then its not really on me. its on the game.

If you need lockpicks go to windmill guy in the south of the map and do his quest line, and he will teach you how to lockpick and you'll get many lockpicks. You can practice with the chest they have in the stables over and over and get better with it, quick and free

There is a solution to every problem but the game doesn't give it to you immediately, you have to search for it

I found like 15 free lockpicks just by knocking down bird nests with a rock. But I haven't really used those because I didn't need to steal anything yet and still have 1.6K groshen and good equipment already. What miracles of nature are those?

Yes it has a similar system, but maybe a little less refined. If NPCs saw you at their place unvited they fled and reported you to the guards, but I am not sure they noticed if you broke in and stole them without them noticing you at the moment.

Tbh it was already pretty deep in the first one, but KCD2 must have more variables and systems playing in the background.

Yeah that's all I'm worried about, that I'm going to go back and it won't be as engaging cause it's not as deeply fleshed out.

Oh what about the armor situation, is the whole poor/noble/dirty/clean system in there?

yep it's here, although once again maybe a little less refined. Also you cannot swap loadouts on the fly like in the 2 so it's a little more painful to change equipment depending on the situation.

A lot of systems in 2 were present in one way or the other in the first, they are mostly much more fleshed out with a much more reactive world as a result. In fact, besides forging, I am not sure there are other totally new systems in the second one but I might be wrong.

tried that. you need lockpicks and not only are they expensive, the lockpick mini game is literally retarded. i quit trying to steal after wasting 3 lockpicks on something.

the game just loves to punish you for everything. ive been following everyone's advice in this thread and on youtube so if ive wasted the last 16 hours or not learned the game's core systems then its not really on me. its on the game.
It's not the game it's you. You will level up your lockpicking and alchemy skills. Selling potions will make you rich and lockpicking with become easier.

yep it's here, although once again maybe a little less refined.

Aw damn, I LOVE the blacksmithing, but that's okay Henry's just got too much trauma to do it in the first one lol

I had a pretty rough first 12 hours, not exactly to the point of frustration as slimysnake but a few tips helped.

Do the first blacksmith quest, find the cart. You can go back to the old woman and do pavlenas quest in full. Then go to the miller and start his quest. Thatll teach you sneaking around and unarmed fighting.
Then go find your dog.
Then do tomcat and the voidvode quest.
After these you'll have well over a thousand groschen, a horse, a few places to sleep, and tons of good gear.
I had to savescum and fight tomcat 20+ times to get an edge and finally win, but he's way harder than most enemies and now I'm sailing through combat.

I think the games biggest issue is that combat is quite complex, with tons of rules, but at the start of the game you don't get any opportunities to practice so when you suddenly end up in a fight you're all thumbs and trying to remember which side your sword should be relative to theirs to do certain moves.
I've been menu save scumming a lot which helped take some of the pressure off.

20 hours in I have the game totally under control, if I get pasted in a fight it's usually now because they're much stronger than me and I need to change my strategy.

The writing is fucking incredible and all the side quests so far have been amazing.

So with lockpicking - I thought it was impossible. But you have to go to the millers and practice on a chest - just do it over and over and you’ll level up to where it’s easy,

Same with fighting, don’t go straight to master strike - practice fight against Tomcat a bunch until you’re leveled up
