Its a lego game, what were people expecting? lol

I dont understand why some people have such hate for this franchise

I'm asking the same question with people spamming Horizon numbers to justify this game and making a thread about how much demand this game has.
But calling hate is pretty much Twitter lowest denominator. Its just like asking why people hate pancakes so much out of a poll between donuts and pancakes. Its not like hate, its just that I don't see the big deal spamming this franchise like theres no tomorrow. Specially for a Lego franchise that has different type of people buying(games like Batman and Star Wars make 10 times more sense than this). This effort and budget could be used for new projects instead, but nah let's just called a hate.

What exactly was gained by Sony sacrificing 100% exclusivity? Less than 5 million software sales not even at full price? After putting nearly ALL of their first party titles on Steam? The geniuses behind this strategy need to commit seppuku at the next board meeting

The issue here is that Lego games are mainly targeted at kids and Horizon is a property that’s targeted at a different demographic.
Back in the 80's there used to be Rambo and Robocop cartoons for kids. You'd see toys for those R-rated movies in the toy aisles. Maybe this is supposed to be a modern, sanitized version of this?

I've seen some people on GAF saying they'll play this with their kid(s), but why not pick a franchise that's more suited and familiar to them? The audience for this seems pretty small.

Something tells me that Steam users aren't the largest audience for this particular title.
Even GoW Ragnarok kinda bombed on Steam. There is no second blue ocean on PC. The customers who buy their games on PC are also replacing their Playstation with a high end PC. They are doomed to fail if they follow MS strategy.

Can't always trust steam numbers, not many kids have a gaming PC. May have to rely on sales numbers here. I think people forget that this is really a game for kids. Grown ass adults mocking it and pretending like it's not are delusional.

That being said, I don't expect super high sales numbers, but enough to potentially warrant a sequel. Parents that loved Horizon might purchase this for their kids on Switch.

Imagine Concord and Lego Horizon signalling Sony to (slowly) move away from PC again, as part of their restructuring.

Concord sold like shit on all platforms and it sounds like it's the same deal with Lego Horizon.

This isn't a PC problem, it's a releasing games that no one wants problem.

I don't think Steam/PC is the core market for these games, so it could still be doing decently on other platforms.
But yeah I don't expect the game to do particularly well. The core Horizon games are fun with their amazing visuals and fun enough gameplay but I don't think the IP has a big enough appeal for people to want spinoffs.

Did I miss something? Why does GAF hate Horizon so much? Is it just because they made Aloy’s personality kind of insufferable in Forbidden West?

I don’t recall a hate boner like this after HZD.
I think it's a mix of people (at least around here) being pretty lukewarm on Forbidden West, and then all the rumors we started getting about how Sony was apparently heavily investing in the franchise with multiple projects. We started hearing about a supposed remake of 1 (which ended up being a remaster), the VR game, a multiplayer game, a lego game, a TV show and even Guerilla themselves ended up talking about plans for 16 different Horizon based projects.

I think it's less of a direct hate on Horizon and more of a hate on the "opportunity cost" where people would prefer to see Sony putting all those resources on other stuff.

Unless it's for a kid, who really buys the lego games? I've only played a little of about 2 of them and it's cause they went to PS+.

I guess? Robocop did have a kids cartoon as well and I think both Rambo and Robocop were seen as “cool@ back then. Plus it’s the 80s and anything went back then 😁.

And as you say the kids audience for Horizon is small. There are a ton of good Lego games to play with kids if that’s the goal. Star Wars Trilogy, City Undercover, Hot wheels and more.

Yeah all those millions of Concord sales on PS5 will surely convince them.

Their PC releases don't sell big anyway, apart from Helldivers 2.

PC creates more drama and doesn't even seem worth much.

Because Helldivers 2 is a good and fun videogame.

Maybe they should start porting more of those, like Bloodborne, The Last Guardian, Gravity Rush and the like. Bet those would sell way more.

Can't imagine it's doing much better on PSN.

Maybe cool it with all the Horizon releases, Sony, before you burn everyone out on the IP.
PC ain't any indicator here
It's a children game and those don't perform well on PC
Even star wars Lego has abysmal ccu on steam and those sold millions

Maybe they should.

Then again, they ultimately want people on Playstation consoles, so maybe they shouldn't.

Horizon is dressing for the job it wants, but I never thought the IP could support itself outside of the main games. The lore just isn't good enough and Aloy is unlikable.

Ellie is a weak woman.

Joel was a weak man.

Aloy is a strong woman.

Nobody likes to play as strong perfect arrogant person who thinks their shit don't stink and they are better than you are because of their strong sense of right and wrong and their activism. That is a fantasy fulfillment self insert for someone, not a good character and who would rather play as her than Mario? I mean, even the actual lego characters from the lego movie would be preferable.

More drama? Maybe from edgelord brand warriors, but the greater demographic doesn't give a shit.

And their two best-selling ports so far both released this year in Ghost of Tsushima and Helldivers 2.

The PC ports are making Sony millions and millions of dollars with minimal time and investment. It's a no-brainer for them.

People keep trying to justify these pitiful numbers but it shows us that there is a complete lack of interest in Lego Horizon. Anyone expecting PS5 and Switch to do respectable numbers is in for a rude awakening.

PlayStation needs to learn that they are going to get out what they put it.

X - SIE PC games have had a rough launch historicly, people have been burnt.
X - SIE has relied on FOMO to sell PC games previously. That doesn't exist here.
X - SIE had a cool opportunity here to make an insane visual powerhouse for the Pro/high end GPUs and they went with putting it on the Switch for launch instead.
X - 8 hour retelling of Horizon 1.
X - No physical CE with Legos.

I feel bad for those little kids whose dreams were shattered by PS Studios making the worst Lego game in history. Someone should be held accountable.

Here are a few takeaways:

- No one likes Horizon enough to go for its spin offs.
- No one on PC cares for these kiddie Sony games. Sackboy and Ratchet did similar numbers. I bet astro bot wouldve flopped too.
- Herman is clueless.
Agree on this mostly. I do think Astrobot could do decently well though.

Which is why Lego Star Wars makes absolute sense while Lego Horizon is puzzling.
Star Wars is aimed at kids? You learn something new every day

Most importantly Sony should know they are just a 3rd party publisher on PC, which means PC players will treat them as such and won't give them free passes.

You kind of have a point, but the drama I'm talking about irt PC releases is about PSN accounts and anti-Woke and non-issues like that.
Mostly PC-nerd issues.

Yeah, GoT sold <1M:

Other PC releases also sold decently for PC, but not amazingly:

You're overestimating PC impact. Also, I never said move away from PC completely, but flops like Lego Horizon and Concord won't work in PC's favor either.

…. Star Wars that has bunch of cartoons and kid / teenager shows? Star Wars with Ewoks? Star Wars with Lucas’ prequel trilogy and Jar Jar?

Umm… yes, Star Wars in part at least is squarely aimed at younger audience and has fans in that said audience.

Do they? Maybe they just want to make as much money as possible, be it on their own platform, on PC, or wherever.
Yes, they always want more money. But they want to grow the consolemarket.

As Shawn Layden stated at the time, when he introduced the new strategy, since the console market hit a ceiling, they need to go out and reel people in.

How do you work that out? there are plenty of Lego games worse than this

Oh, wait, you haven't played it though have you? Or probably not played (m)any Lego game(s) have you?

"Don't perform well" and "602 peak concurrent" are two very, very different things.

Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga peaked at ~83k. Lego Horizon peaked at ~0.8% of that.
Lego Batman had 1k, 500 (!), and 2k peaks for 3 games
And serie sold around 13 millions
PC is just an (young) adult territory, not kids territory. So any low number for kid game show just that there are no kids to play on PC and nothing else

Neither are Sony's major games people keep asking for all the time.

It would be smarter for Sony to keep their games exclusive, except for a few live service games.
PC players aren't begging for Sony games. To them it's just more games. They don't deify their games like console fanboys do.

Sony's major games sell well enough for being late ports. If they released day and date alongside PS5 they would perform considerably better. The GoT sequel for example would easily hit 200-300k CCU if it released day one on Steam. Releasing games outside of the FOMO hype bubble gets you muted results.

Well if their strategy to "reel people in" is porting games nobody asked for then I guess they are cooked.

I might be wrong but I never saw anyone port begging for GOW:R or Spider-Man 2. Ghost on the other hand did much better, since that's actually a quality game.

Imo porting their games is good to make money, but I think they aren't doing it the right way. Where the fuck is Bloodborne? I bet that would have moved some heavy numbers, specially if they would have released that during the Elden Ring hype.

Like I said, I learned something.
Oh! haha, sorry man. Way I read your previous post it sounded like you were saying it ina kinda ironic way.

GoT sold 800+K.
Spiderman sold 1.5+M.

Edit:

In fact, it seems PC releases are performing worse as more release.

If Sony is smart, they'd make a BB Remake exclusively for PS6, just like they made Demon's Souls Remake PS5-exclusive.

Using CCU for a singleplayer game makes no sense.
All that's needed, is a sale.

CCU is more important for live service fames, where the stat actually matters.
