Metroid 4 Prime: Beyond | New Trailer

Looks fantastic.

Metroid Prime is still a top 10 of all time for me, the Remaster might be the best game on Switch. It’s a shame the first person Metroidvania genre doesn’t get much love. Maybe indies will get there one day.

can’t wait to see what this looks like on Switch 2. Retro are wizards.

I don't really care about these kind of things and it won't affect my choice to buy (or skip) but I couldn't help but chuckle at her power suit "shoe soles". Like, I know it's part of (some versions) of her power suit design but these just look like rubber shoe soles glued onto the bottom of her armored feet.

I think you need to connect your PS3 again and make a comparison side by side with Prime Remaster vs whatever PS3 game you choose… Prime is in another whole league, it’s not even close.
Baked shadows not even real time shadow maps, not even using basic SSAO, no realtime reflections, no volumetric lighting, 2-3 enemies on screen max, no physics, 2D backgrounds, etc. It's fine for what it is, but there's plenty of PS3 games doing a lot more on the rendering front.

I wasn't really expecting the graphics to be amazing, but the gameplay is the most underwhelming aspect to me. This just kinda seems like its a mod for Prime 1. Hopefully they're just hiding the more interesting stuff. /copium
im in the same boat.

what im hoping is that so far we've had this trailer

where its just like, yeah looks like a metroid game.

then for switch 2 we get this trailer

where it's just like, no wait a minute we gonna blow your mind, you weren't expecting any of this

The theme song (?) sounds fantastic. Definitely classic Prime vibes, Yamamoto might be back which is great news after Dread's very underwhelming OST.

Yeah Dread nailed everything except OST. Just didn't have that atmospheric soundtrack that Metroid is known for.

Up there with DKC as some of the best ambience from music.

So, uh, anyone else notice that the psychic beam in the trailer at 1:58 looks exactly like the Volcanic Egg from Risk of Rain 2? Different ability since the Volcanic Egg transforms the playable character into the attack but the visual and function of the attack itself are identical.

I love the Metroid series, but for whatever reason Prime just didn't do anything for me. Which is so odd considering how much I grew up loving FPS games. So, you'd think that the merging of the two would speak to me, but it never has for some reason. I'm sure I'm not alone in this, but I often feel like I am as SO many people love the Prime series. I'm really happy for those folks though, just to see this finally happening and moving forward.

I mean, i'll boy it day one regardless, but this trailer did absolute nothing to show why the MP games are so great in the first place. They better have a better one for next week if the hope the franchise to grow at all

Yeah, feels like you really need a deep dive for that tbh. Slow, exploration focused games don't really benefit from quick trailers.

Level/world design, atmosphere and variety of biomes is what makes these games for me.

Series like metroid and zelda deserve muchhhhhhhhh better storytelling than what nintendo gives them. Why is samus in the year 2025 still a silent protagonist it looks like with 0 personality and 0 storytelling surrounding her. Give this woman a voice and give her an epic story to make more people invested in her and want to care about her.

not tag worthy
You can always go play AC Shadows. I hear it's the best reason to own a PC. Great graphics. The artstyle, so good, lol.

Honestly, AC Shadows enjoyers coming in here very obtusely dissing on Metroid is like people who think McDonalds is better than Hell's Kitchen. You will never know how funny you are.
Jack Nicholson Ugh GIF

What if we dont have a PC and the switch is out primary console ?

They should release this as a Switch 2 title showcase with much better graphics. This is disappointing, to be honest. The frame rate skips/jitters when looking sideways, and the graphics don't really look good at all. Eh, I'll 100% pass on the original Switch.

Nah, let the environment and scanning do the storytelling. I don’t want another Metroid Other M.

Just because other M wasn't as good as it could've been dosen't mean that you never try giving samus a personality again and try telling a story. Doing the same thing over and over and over again just causes a series to stagnate. Samus is a character that deserves good writing and a proper story because it could elevate the series and expand the audience for her.

So as a Metroid fan I'm rather underwhelmed.

+/-Switch 2 launch title for sure
-Generic Psychic power focus probably revolving around puzzles and remote control beam puzzles, door puzzles
-Lacks MP3 Free Aim
-Planet name is lame as hell...View...ros...ugh
-Power Beam becomes Purple
+Music good
+Environments/locales good

Day 0 on Switch 2 regardless.

I agree that doing the same will cause stagnation. But imo the focus should be on gameplay changes, complex map design, great writing/lore etc.

Story and character development is so far down my list it’s barely visible. That’s just my take though.

Not every series has to be story-driven, just like not every series needs to add RPG elements. A lot of games are ruined by uninteresting stories for me, stories with nothing to say. If the writing is barely high-school level I am not interested.

Metroid Prime is just not the type of game that's gonna have a sexy trailer everyone will freak out about. These games are all about the mood and exploring and scanning lore and shit.

I did think the graphics looks great but here I have NeoGAF telling me it looks like an N64 or PS2 or PS3 game (depending on how much of a moron you are).

How many years was this in development? Even as a Nintendo gamer this looks very underwhelming.
Revealed in 2017, supposedly in development by Bandai Namco.

Completely scrapped in 2019, and handed to RETRO.

So I guess around 6 years by RETRO specifically, but 8 years in total.

There’s no way Nintendo will make their money back on this one. Although that was probably never in the cards either way.

Nintendo fan chiming in: They should’ve made a 2D Metroid instead, it could’ve impressed with some blurred foreground effects or physics or something. Art direction is fine here but otherwise it looks dated compared to every other AAA and AA first person game out there including those people think look bad.

Oh well maybe it looks better on Switch 2

Man, this looks outdated as fuck. Not only in the graphics, but the gameplay looks like Metroid Prime.

I get it, its Metroid.

But it also looks boring.

Days like these...

6 years for something that so far from what they've shown looks like just more of the same? I'll buy it for switch 2 but I'm not expecting anything amazing. I'dove to be wrong though

Azelover

Titanic was called the Ship of Dreams, and it was. It really was.
Let me just stray away from the graphics a little.

The game gives me Metroid Prime 2 Echoes vibes. In fact, there are some aspect that are very close. I wonder if it will inherit the difficulty aswell..
