We're still mid-gen.
And just like Switch, it's technically a console as well.

I think "available on Xbox platforms" is key here.

But a single set of financials doesn't tell the whole story. You'd have to take their initial Spider-man investment with all the other versions on console and PC and check back after 10years after Spider-man 3 releases on PC to see what the ROI was. The game's finances seem to follow the big film releases, where it is a long return on a solid investment so long as the quality is there and the IP/franchise does a lot of the heavy sales lifting too.
Roblox looks like the industry eating itself with a race to the bottom. And given the choice between Roblox infestation in A-AAA gaming or losing Xbox, I'll happily take the future where PlayStation is the unopposed VHS/DVD/Blu-Ray/UHD player to sell high quality blockbuster to indie games on.
Ironically, games like Spiderman would be less risky if there was only one winner in the high-end console space. Xbox's very presence artificially propped up by Microsoft's finances makes it harder for PlayStation to take further financial risks with hardware to expand the market, as was their intention with the $500M risk they took on Cell BE R&D on the PS3 that nearly sunk them as a company.

Don't worry, I'm fully aware that it could mean a powerful console just as easily.
I'm saying that some sort of digital-only console/hybrid seems more logical, since now that they confirmed basically any Xbox title can potentially go multiplatform after a year, a traditional console will be pretty much DOA.

Low sales due to low installbase and increasing cost of AAA production make for a very sensible reason to make games multiplatform.
Watch it again, there are tiny bits of the puzzle spread across the entire podcast.
It's just a matter of connecting the dots.
It's not like most people aren't aware, it's just a specific minority that is acting obtuse.

From my understanding the technological leap might be related with Generative AI (MS is currently working on their own AI chips), rather than streaming from the cloud

Either way the wording coming from Microsoft right now is sounding suspiciously like the "Power of the cloud" nonsense they tried to fool the general public with during the xbox one reveal

The wording says very little if anything, and honestly this has nothing to do with the XBO reveal since this is just a "promise" and not a reveal. They will have to show the receipts if they claim it's a truly technological leap when they reveal the new console

Sorry to say if people think it's just these 4 games in the works, they've been sipping from Pinnochio Spencer's furry ball purse for too long.
Take the PR 'business update' in isolation and sure believe it if you want to, however look at everything else from the past week and it becomes clear it's at best economical with the truth.

When this fails (because Sony isn't asleep at the wheel anymore, even with the GAAS push they secured and are still securing a lot of singleplayer games for the PS5 launch), they will decide that maybe a console with a red ring of death aesthetic will be the one.
They have no clue what they are doing and are chasing ghosts of past successes.

For someone who's got a digital library on 360, including many non-backwards compatible games, it is anything but a convenient experience to find them to redownload them. It would just be nice if they didn't keep lying. Make the actual experience great and then by all means boast about it. (You have to go onto the 360 and laboriously slowly scroll through a very very long list to find them manually.)
On Series consoles it still lacks basic functionality like the ability to disable the stupid quick resume, which means I need to manually 'quit' each game before I power off, otherwise it causes problems with save or achievement progression in tons of games. This sort of thing could be done in five minutes and has been asked for since 2020. I'm sick of their laziness.

It can't be the largest leap if it's a handheld. Maybe their strategy is to do what people ask Nintendo to do i.e make a Switch 2 but also make a docked only switch that is like a Series X/PS5. Games will have a high performance mode i.e handheld mode, performance mode i.e home console performance mode and quality mode i.e home console quality mode.
