I don't know about others but I have no shortage of new games to play. I literally can't keep up.

What an odd take.
Same. Unless you have very specific tastes, it's been impossible to keep up with good games this generation. I have 4TBs on PS5 nearly all taken up as I uninstall at a much slower pace than I install, I need to take a break from work for two years to catch up at this rate.

They arent xbox games anymore they are ps5 games now. If you have a ps5 you now have double the games. All xbox owners should come on over to the ps5. all the games in one place.

Any time a new AAA game gets announced it immediately goes to the top the pre-order charts. Not say Xbox games won't sell. Forza 5 should do amazing. Probably not Indy, as it bombed pretty hard on Xbox. Pre-order charts don't indicate sales success

5 million players, ‘bombed hard’ kek. Add another 5 million players from Playstation as they’re starved for any PS5 exclusives.

Another thing. I remember there was a chain store that went bankrupt. And during the closing down sale, all the stores were packed with shoppers. One of the clerks in an interview was exasperated and said "where were you when we weren't bankrupt?"

Lets get to the real issue.

Sony dropped the fucking ball this generation with getting enough software to support their platform. They made a great piece of Tech in the PS5 while it's first party lineup has been very few and very far between. They gambled on that bullshit GAAS and it burned their assholes. Look at Sony first party releases before the PS5 and compare on each platform, it's not even close. Sony players are starving for new stuff to play because Sony and it's first parties take a century to release games.
You say this like Sony banned 3rd party games from their consoles before the PS5.

Since the PS1 Sony always had a healthy amount of 3rd party games on their consoles.

When it's a free download for 40million customers, yes.

How do I get gamepass ultimate for free?

It's good to dream.

It’s been topping sales charts on PlayStation around the world for months now. It will sell more on PS5 than any of their PS5 exclusives this gen to date, but Astrobot hasn’t set that sales figure too high

If you are a gamepass subscriber, the game was free, as is every other game on gamepass. I didn't say it was free to 200mil+ gamers across Xbox and PC ecosystems

It's going to sell better than Spider-Man 2? Last reported numbers put SM2 at 11 mil, a year ago. It's probably well past that now. In fact, Spider-Man 2 outsold Indiana Jones this past December. A game that was over a year old and locked on one console outsold Indiana Jones in its launch month. But please, tell me what was Xbox's last game that sold past 10 mil? I'll wait

MS is hand-picking the games they think will do well on PS - e.g., FH5 is a perfect choice - so it makes sense that they are well-received. If they sent over other exclusives in their back catalog, it would be a different story. Crackdown 3, anyone?

FH5 is the first ever Xbox core/pillar franchise to make its way to PS. Naturally, people are excited. The same will be true when Gears and Halo come over. Xbox was the Halo/Gears/Forza machine for many years. It was pretty much all they had, apart from some indies.

I do think Sony's "lull" contributes to this as well.

It shows that a lot of the console warring over the last several years is completely disingenuous. MS has lots of great games. They have a great subscription service. A lot of PS gamers are just never going to budge or ever move out of their ecosystem, no matter what the competition does. Pretty much what a lot of us have suspected for a while.

Doesn't matter at this point in terms of console warring, but it shows the real motivating factors for consumer behavior.

Or maybe many people just want to own one console?

This is entirely consistent with the notion that Xbox games can sell themselves just fine but not necessarily a whole system.

Plenty good third parties are like this. Nothing wrong with it.

If someone really wants to play a game they'll buy it. It would be really stupid not to because another company published them.

It's a win win. Phil had MS putting out billions buying up the market. They had to make some back because GP wasn't selling them.

Xbox is projecting again. I know there are people in this very forum that swear they will NEVER use a PlayStation. That kind of insanity is reflected, so they are confused that PlayStation customers have no problem playing games made by Microsoft.

What do you mean, PlayStation gamers don't actually act like they are great enemies of Xbox? That they just decided owning one console is enough and they just picked Sony after making a value calculation?

That Sony customers are rational people who make rational choices?

Forza Horizon 5 was really Microsoft’s only clear cut success this generation until Indy. Everything else either had issues or was in a niche genre.

Ironic that they abandon their console now that they are finally delivering solid games with Indy, Avowed and hopefully Doom, though I don’t think they regret it.
These are games that were always going to be on Xbox, except they bought the studios to take it away from other platforms.

But taking away other platforms also means less profits. And this generation is already too late to tell people to buy an Xbox. You are suppose to convince people to buy your hardware early on in the generation to lock them in. This is old enough to basically be near SunTzu level tactics for console wars.

Halo Infinite's failure is basically irreparable. It isn't the fault of the studio that they had a cross-gen game that ended up being marketed as AAA for Series X, but then failing to be ready for launch was the final straw. The Xbox Series launch boxes had the Halo art on them is just adding insult to injury.

Sometimes I need a break from forums and reddit because the warring is rampant everywhere.

It's nice to unplug from those and play. Just played through HZD on 5 PRO because I haven't touched it in years and it was great. Getting ready for HFW.

The warring can be funny but it can be hard to find good conversation sometimes. And yes it comes from every brand of fanboy.

Looking forward to DOOM and Indiana Jones as well.

I feel like this all comes from a place of assumption that, if only there were enough first party games, nobody would have to buy the "next best" third party games.

To say Xbox games wouldn't get bought on PS unless there was some shortage of another product is disingenuous, especially when buying third party games on PS is a 30 year tradition.

The industry makes and sells games on PS. Half of it gets bought by MS. They keep doing it. I can't attach this to their gaas mistakes.

How am I gamepass subscriber for free but? It costs me $20 a month I’m not sure how that’s then free to play the game.

Call of Duty only 2 months ago within a 24 hours you’re welcome.

Fundamentally Sony is being traditional in making money from the third party studios. The 1st party games are just for rounding out the library, which is why it is a bad idea to focus on GaaS. GaaS, especially those who are free to play, don't benefit from being exclusive,

Nintendo made the decision to focus on selling their first party games to make a living. And they built their entire company around this goal. PlayStation is not doing the same but that's just because their business model is different.

If you want Sony to take risks again and trying to please consumers, we would need a new player in the console race. Xbox was already defeated.

I agree there is a conversation (that's been had many times) about where Sony has directed resources. I just don't see it linked to preordering third party (ie Xbox) games.

If someone preorders a Sega title on Nintendo is that indicative that Nintendo doesn't have enough games? The implication is that you wouldn't do so unless forced to by scarcity, because it's the "other guys" game which reveals the mentality this comes from.

Basically PS and Xbox always have to be fighting, so things are reframed that you are failing as a first party if customers go purchase third party titles. Yes even on PlayStation lol.

Soon people will be comparing sales of Xbox and PlayStation games...on PlayStation. And weighing what kinds of concessions to give like time on an extant platform. Don't forget the spin of how MS just made Sony their hardware production bitch because they "don't want to be in hardware anyway" and "won" in the end. I'm sure what people really come up with will be more outrageous.

As it is obvious, if MS does condense in a couple years the last 7 years of Xbox releases, there are some good games there and users will buy the best ones in good numbers.

There's nothing strange in that, I am myself interested in FH5 and Indy, although with MS politics about phisical copies I ama bit on the fence whether to buy or not.
What does SIE even have slated for this year that isn’t a remaster?

Is it just Ghost of Yōtei and DS2?
Also Lost Soul Aside and MLBA The S
?

I'm very specifically talking about things their own studios are developing, of course it matters to the context.
You can be even more specific and say anything Sony releases you will find some way to nitpick it.

So it begins....

But hey, some ppl need:

Xbox console, device...whatever it will be... to be able to play Somy PC games
MS games to sell boatloads on PS5

to sleep better at night.
Forza has been on top of sales charts for months? Wasn't it just available for preorder a month ago?

28 days equal months now, obviously.

I guess now the goalpost moving has combined wishlist and pre orders.

What goalposts are being moved? Go back to my original post all I said is Forza will outsell Astrobots 2.5m

Honestly felt like it but probably just going off the original announcement, but we’re days away from our second month which will then fall under months and it’s still there.

This is what you said
It will sell more on PS5 than any of their PS5 exclusives this gen to date
"Any of their"

Let me guess your gonna say astrobot is the only true exclusive on ps5?

And it isn't, GT7 is already tracking close to being the second best gran turismo saleswise with only 3 years on the market

If we extrapolate USA sales it is most likley well over 10 million+

Not only that astrobot will most likeley end up on PC at some point. So excluding other ps5 console exclusives doesn't make any sense.

Why does the Playstation cult always run towards sales numbers, when the topic at hand is how toxic brand loyalty deprives the industry of competition.

Since when was that the topic at hand.

Unfortunately games and gaming technology cost a bomb to produce, high sales are paramount to the continued future.

Sales numbers are the very reason Microsoft Gaming is in this position.
